A Dream Come True...

 ... at least for the fans who joined the Millennium Fanmeeting at the Disneyland Resort Paris - not only because of three days that allowed the fans for the first time to meet not only in the Chat or on the Forum but in person in their shared world of dreams and fantasies but also because they witnessed the most elaborate celebrations the resort had seen to that point, with countless special events, parades and surprises where ever one looked.

For sure the heavy storms which had bettered France in the weeks leading to the event had led to the alteration of some major elements of the celebration (especially a giant globe that was supposed to be errected on the Central Plaza had to be scraped) but this didn't impact the celebrations at all - no matter wether it was for the century 1900, which was celebrated on the Main Street, U.S.A., nor for the Millennium 2000 which was celebrated elsewhere in the resort.

The fans attending the meeting, and that was a really surprising huge group as countelss fans who decided on short notice to celebrate in the resort just walked by during the three days the meeting in the end lasted (even so it was scheduled and planned for the 31st alone!), spend most of their time in the Disneyland Park, and skipped the celebrations in the Disney Village, even so quiet a few fans brought the long second and third day to an end with huge dinners there...

But as in every good story, we should start at the beginning...

25 fans showed up for the first officially announced meeting point on the 31st of December in front of the City Hall at 12.30 pm to get accustomed and prepare for the nights of all nights. A nearly babylonic language mix was soon heared there, as fans from the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK, France and Germany were among the fans but soon everybody switched to a common language, English, and only in smaller groups now or then a switch back to French or German could be heared. What was intended to be only a short meeting to plan the rest of the day according to the whishes of the fans suddenly turned into an endless chit chat just as it is so well known from the Chat - even so the group was right in the middle of the Magic Kingdom nobody really wanted to venture out and leave the other fans behind, as all those stories seemed so interesting, and obviously some had nearly anxious awaited a first face-to-face meeting with some of the fellow fans they only knew through their nicknames...

This prolonged start should, as all fans were bound to learn in the coming hours, be a indication for what the whole Fanmeeting would become - not only a one day event to celebrate together the new Millennium but a three day experience! Even so there was no special program organized for the participants just the fun to stay together, enjoy the attractions with fellow fans and spend endless hours in the restaurants sharing thoughts about the resort kept the group together and formed new friendships - that was what was at the heart of this event. But again, we are moving ahead...

Because first of all the group was bound to explore the park during the day and then prepare for the nightly event and get ready to welcome the new millennium!

With all that story telling the group still managed to squeeze in a few more rides - certainly including the third coaster of the park, Casey Junior - but returned frequently to the Main Street and Central Plaza, where each hour in a small ceremony starring dancers, different Disney Characters and a small day time fireworks display the Millennium was greated in another time zone (so pretty many occassions to celebrate). Anxiously fans awaited the first highlight of the day besides the meeting: the premier of the new parade: Disney's ImagiNations Parade.

After enjoying once more the Wonderful World of Disney Parade earlier at the day (unbelievable but true: the whole group danced along and got more than once apllause from thes surrounding guests) the places at the parade route was claimed early in Fantasyland ... and the expectations were not dissapointed as the countless dancers in their incredible costumes and the giant, sky high towering floats passed by. Even so the chosen place wasn't that perfect, as on Central Plaza the parade's theme song was performed live by Tatiana Hancheroff, a young singer from Canada (but the group caught her second performance on the 1st of January instead). If the silent gasping and the bursts of applause or maybe even better the clicking of the cameras was the sign to look for the group seemed enthusiastic about the new parade - an opinion that later was clarified during a (not so short) coffee break with more talks...

 As time went the new millenium moved closer and closer ... and the group got more and more excited - even the live concerts on Central Plaza and the Main Street Electrical Parade, which was presented with each and every float and countless dancers in their elaborate costumes running longer than on any other "normal" day in the park (which also would miss the small firework effects over the castle to top it off) was only one more stop in the evening ... on the way to a celebration of a lifetime.

Just in time the last organizational problems were solved ... as the fans surely deserved an extra topping on the unique Disney celebration - our very own, exclusive Millennium snack complete with champagne (out of Millennium-Glases just minutes before the clock stroke 12 bought in a shop on Main Street, U.S.A.) and caviar (thanks to Paul!) Sipping champagne and watching the 360 degree firework display surrounding all of the park and filling every inch of the sky above the castle - in a group of 25 friends ... can it get any better??

YES - if the group stays on to dance the night away and celebrate even more (certainly with more champagne) on the Mainstreet to the beats of the open air disco ... dancing the night away - and we don't want to tell more about this to safeguard the privacy of the 25 fans ... just so much: there were quiete a few who kept the night alive long, long after in the Videopolis at the disco party and even enjoyed a final group ride on Dumbo shortly before the park closed at 4.00 am!

Was that all? NO - as the group did decide to meet again on the 1st of January even so nothing had been planned originally - but who could be a better companion to see what was then beleived to be the final farewell of the beloved Wonderful World of Disney Parade? But don't believe the tears last all day, as the group once again blasted the day away with joined rides and a lot of talking, especially again in the evening during a lush dinner in the Disney Village, which unfortunately was also time to say goodbye to the first fans...

But a not too small group of die hard fans prolonged the meeting once more for a third day of fun in the park (and the restaurants) - and during their final dinner one thing became obvious: this could only have been the first of many, many more meetings to come!

... auf jeden Fall für die Fans, die am Millennium Fanmeeting im Disneyland Resort Paris teilnahmen - und zwar nicht nur wegen der drei Tage, an denen Fans, die sich bisher nur aus dem Chat oder dem Forum kannten, endlich auch einmal Angesicht zu Angesicht treffen konnten und das in der Welt Ihrer Träume, sondern auch da sie die bis dato aufwendigste Feier in der Geschichte des Resorts miterleben konnten, mit zahllosen Events, Paraden und Überraschungen aller Orten.

Natürlich hatten die starken Stürme, die Frankreich in den Tagen vor dem Event heimgesucht hatten, zu Veränderungen der Feiern geführt (so fehlt z.B. der große Globus, der auf der Central Plaza errichtet werden sollte), doch beeinträchtigte dies das Event nicht - egal ob es um die Feier des Jahrhundertwechsels 1900 in der Main Street, U.S.A. oder um die Feier des Millenniums 2000 im übrigen Resort ging.

Die am Treffen teilnehmenden Fans, und das war eine überraschend große Zahl, da viele von ihnen sich kurzfristig zum Besuch des Resorts entschieden hatten und einfach bei einem der Treffpunkte während des im Endeffekt dreit-tägigen Meetings vorbeikamen (nun gut, offiziell war das Meeting ursprünglich nur für einen Tag angesetzt), verbrachten den größten Teil ihrer Zeit im Disneyland Park und ließen die Feiern im Disney Village außen vor, obwohl hier am zweiten und dritten Abend aufwendig diniert wurde...

Aber wie in jeder guten Geschichte sollten wir am Beginn anfangen...

25 Fans trafen sich beim ersten offiziellen Treffpunkt am 31. Dezember vor der City Hall gegn 12.30, um sich kennen zu lernen und die Nacht der Nächte vorzubereiten. Anfangs klang dabei ein fast schon babylonischer Sprachenmix aus der Gruppe, die doch Teilnehmern unter anderem aus den Niederlanden, Belgien, der Schweiz, England, Frankreich und Deutschland umfasste, doch schnell wechselte man zu einer gemeinsamen Sprache, Englisch, und alle anderen Sprachen waren nur noch gelegentlich in kleinen Grüppchen zu hören. Was nur ein kurzes Willkommenstreffen sein sollte, wurde schnell zu einer ausgedehnten Gesprächsrunde, wie sie aus dem Chat so bekannt sind - und auch wenn man mitten im Magischen Reich stand, schien kein Fan den Drang zu haben, aufzubrechen und die übrigen zurückzulassen, zu interessant waren all die Geschichten, die man austauschen konnte, zu lange hatte man gewartet endlich Gesichter und Stimmen mit den Nicknames aus Chat und Forum zu verbinden...

Dieser "verlängerte" Start sollte, wie alle bald lernten, symptomatisch für das ganze Treffen werden - das dann im Endeffekt nicht nur einen Tag, sondern drei Tage dauerte! Auch wenn kein spezielles Programm organisiert war, nur die Freude gemeinsam die Attraktionen zu erleben und endlose Stunden in Restaurants versunken in Gespräche zu verbringen, hielt die Gruppe zusammen und lies neue Freundschaften entstehen - das war das Herz dieses einmaligen Events. Aber schon wieder greifen wir vor...

Denn zu aller ersteinmal brach die Gruppe auf, um während des Tages den Park zu erleben und sich auf das nächtliche Event vorzubereiten, um das neue Millennium Willkommen zu heißen!

Nach dem wirklich langen ersten Gespräch ging es auf zu Space Mountain - was glauben SIE was für eine Reaktion ein Castmember zeigt, der 25 Gäste in einer Gruppe in einem Zug unterbringen soll? Nun, wir bekamen ein freundlichen Lächeln, selbst als einige letzte Photos zur Verzögerung des Raketenstarts zu führen drohten... Direkt nach der Reise zum Mond war eines klar: die Fans wollten mehr Action - mehr Achterbahn! Als zog der Treck einmal quer durch den Park zum Big Thunder Mountain, eine Reise die sich mit einer solchen Gruppe durchaus etwas länger hinziehen kann, denn da wird überall dort gestoppt, wo ein Fan eine interessante Geschichte beitragen kann - und derer gibt es viele vom Disney Geheimnis bis hin zum persönlichen Erlebnis ... bei 25 Fans.

Doch trotz aller Geschichten schaffte man es dann doch noch einige Fahrten in den Tag zu quetschen - darunter natürlich auch der dritte Coaster des Parks, Casey Junior - obwohl natürlich zahlreiche Ausflüge auf die Main Street und die Central Plaza anstanden, wo stündlich mit einer kleiner Zeremonie samt Tänzern, unterschiedlichen Disney Charaktären und einem kleinen Tageslicht-Feuerwerk über dem Schloss das Millennium in einer anderen Zeitzone begrüßt wurde (also viele Gelegenheiten zum Feiern). Fast schon ängstlich wurde auch das erste Highlight neben dem Treffen erwartet: die Premiere der neuen Parade: Disney's ImagiNations Parade.

Nachdem zuvor noch einem die Wonderful World of Disney genossen worden war (unglaublich aber war: dabei tanzte die ganze Gruppe mit und erntete sogar Applaus von den umstehenden Gästen) wurde schon früh ein Platz an der Paradenroute im Fantasyland gesichert ... und die hohen Erwartungen wurden auch nicht enttäuscht, als die Tänzer in ihren unglaublichen Kostümen erschienen und die gigantischen, Turmhohen Wagen vorbeizogen. Auch wenn der Platz nicht ideal gewählt war, bot die junge Kanadierin Tatiana Hancheroff doch den Themesong der Parade auf der Central Plaza live dar (die Gruppe konnte das am 1. Januar dann selbst nochmals erleben), war die Parade ein voller Erfolg achtete man auf das ungläubige Staunen, den immer wieder aufbrandenden, spontanen Applaus und das unentwegte Klicken der Photoapparate - ein Eindruck der dann bei einer (nicht zu kurzen) Kaffeepause bestätigt wurde...

Mit jeder Minute rückte aber das neue Millennium näher - und die Gruppe wurde immer aufgeregter. Da waren selbst die Live Konzerte auf der Central Plaza und die Main Street Electrical Parade, die mit sämtlichen Wagen und einer unglaublichen Anzahl an Tänzern in ihren aufwendigen, schillernden Kostümen dargeboten wurde wie sonst an keinem "normalen" Tag (an dem im übrigen auch die Feuerwerks-Effekte über dem Schloss fehlen würden), nur kleine Zwischenschritte auf dem Weg zur Party des Lebens.

Gerade noch rechtzeitig wurden dafür die letzten organisatorischen Fragen geklärt, denn natürlich sollten die Fans mehr als nur die offizielle Feier erleben können - unseren eigenen, ganz exklusiven Millenniums Snack komplett mit Champagner (natürlich aus Millenniums-Gläser die nur Minuten vor Mitternacht noch in einem Shop auf der Mainstreet erstanden wurden) und Kaviar (Danke Paul!). Am Champagner nippend (mehr oder weniger <g>) erlebte die Gruppe dann das einmalige 360-Grand-Feuerwerk rund um den gesamten Park, das jeden Zentimeter am Himmel zum erstrahlen brachte - konnte es noch besser werden?

JA - wenn die Gruppe die Nacht zum Tag macht und zu den Klängen der Open Air Disco die Main Street in eine Tanzfläche verwandelt (mit der Hilfe von ein bisschen mehr Champagner) ... und das war erst der Anfang, mehr darf hier aber zum Schutz der Privatsphäre der 25 Fans aber eigentlich nicht gesagt werden ... außer vielleicht, dass einige noch lange die Disco Party im Videopolis genossen und andere wiederum sogar noch kurz vor Schließung des Parks um 4.00 Uhr am Morgen noch zu einem gemeinsamen Rundflug mit Dumbo aufbrachen!

War das alles? NEIN - denn die Gruppe beschloss schon früh, sich am kommenden Tag, dem 1. Januar, wieder zu treffen und damit das Fanmeeting über die Planung hinaus auszudehnen  - aber wer könnte auch eine bessere Begleitung für, wie damals alle annahmen, den Abschied von der beliebten Wonderful World of Disney Parade sein? Aber glauben Sie jetzt nicht, der zweite Tag hätte nur Tränen geboten, denn bei zahllosen gemeinsamen Fahrten und endlosen Gesprächen hatte die Gruppe natürlich auch viel, viel Spaß! Zum Abschluss des Tages ging es dann in das Disney Village zum großen Dinner, das für einige der Fans leider auch der Abschied aus dem Resort sein sollte...

Aber eine auch nicht gerade kleine Gruppe beschloss das Meeting nochmals um einen Tag zu verlängern für noch mehr Spaß im Park (und den Restaurants) - und während ihres Abschiedsessens am folgenden Tag war dann eines endgültig klar: dies konnte nur das erste von zahlreichen weiteren Treffen gewesen sein!
