Comparing "Adventureland"

Adventureland is designed to transport guests to a strange exotic land which feels both familiar and unknown. One moment they can be exploring an Arabian Bazaar then around the corner experiencing a pirate attack on the southern seas or discovering a mysterious temple deep in the jungle.

The American Adventureland's are smaller than that in Paris, where guests can wander in caves across bridges and under water falls. In contrast the American versions are less labyrinth allowing for less exploration and discovery. All parks benefit from the a-fore mentioned cocktail of styles which allows rides from different influences to sit beside each other.

Adventureland transportiert die Gäste in ein seltsames, exotisches Reich, das gleichermaßen bekannt und unbekannt erscheint. In einem Moment durchstreift man noch einen Arabischen Bazaar, um dann nur wenige Schritte weiter einen Piratenangriff in der Südsee mitzuerleben oder einen mysteriösen Tempel zu entdecken.

Die amerikanischen Adventurelands sind kleiner als ihr Pariser Gegenstück, in dem die Gäste durch Höhlen, über Brücken und hinter Wasserfällen auf Entdeckungsreise gehen können. Im Vergleich sind die amerikanischen Anlagen weniger labyrinthartig und bieten weniger Möglichkeiten zum Selbstentdecken. Alle Parks aber ziehen Nutzen aus dem erwähnten Stilmix, der Attraktionen mit den unterschiedlichsten Einflüssen nebeneinander zulässt.

Comparing "Pirates of the Caribbean"

A true masterpiece of Disney design "Pirates of the Caribbean" has major similarities in all locations. Many scenes appear almost as exact copies of each other, while the major difference can be found in the order they are encountered. Disneyland Anaheim's version begins with a slow journey past the Blue Bayou restaurant before dropping into scenes inhabited by the ghosts and skeletons of pirates who died seeking their fortune. In DLP the Blue Bayou is replaced with the Blue Lagoon and a similar series of scenes depicting skeletons can be found not at the beginning, but at the very end of the journey.

Another noticeable difference is the pace of the attraction, in DL the boats tend to pass at a slow pace through most of the ride, while in Paris the pace seems a little more varied most noticeably when the boats drop into the centre of a battle at sea. The drop is another interesting difference with the DL version starting at the highest point before dropping down into the ride and not climbing until the very end, in DLP the climb is close to the beginning of the ride dropping guests twice during the journey.

For the WDW-version opening on the 15th December 1973 only small changes were made keeping the run of the scenes but among others adding a new Treasure Hoard scene and two skeletons sitting above a chess-board in the prison. Both new scenes did not make it into the DLP-version, which therefore kept the "chase-scene", in which a pirate chases a woman from the village. Labelled as being not politicaly correct it was eliminated in both US-versions.

But the Pirates in Paris also feature a technical-premier: two audio animatronics in a sword fight with their blades actually clashing together!

Als ein wahres Meisterwerk aus dem Hause Disney weißt "Pirates of the Caribbean" eine große Zahl Ähnlichkeiten in allen Versionen auf. Viele Szenen sind nahezu exakte Duplikate und nur die Reihenfolge stellt einen größeren Unterschied dar. So beginnt die Reise in Disneyland Anaheim mit einer gemächlichen Fahrt vorbei an dem Restaurant Blue Bayou, bevor man zu Geistern und Skeletten diverser Piraten hinunterstürzt, die Zeugnis über ihre Vergangenheit ablegen. In DLP wurde das Blue Bayou durch das Blue Lagoon ersetzt und eine ähnliche Fahrt durch die Grotten findet sich nicht zu Beginn, sondern gegen Ende der fantastischen Schifffahrt.

Ein weiterer auffälliger Unterschied ist das Tempo der Attraktion - in DL gleiten die Boote gemächlich durch den größten Teil der Szenen, während in Paris die Geschwindigkeit zu variieren scheint, besonders wenn die Boote mitten in einen Seekampf rauschen.

Diese Abfahrt ist ein weiterer interessanter Unterschied zur Version in Anaheim, bei der nur eine einzige Schussfahrt direkt zu Beginn des Abenteuers erfolgt und es keinen Anstieg bis kurz vor Schluss gibt, während in DLP die Boote zu Beginn der Fahrt aufwärts gezogen werden und gleich zwei Schussfahrten das Abenteuer spritziger gestalten.

Für die WDW-Version, die am 15. Dezember 1973 öffnete, wurden nur kleinere Änderungen vorgenommen, die Reihenfolge der Szenen aber belassen. Neu waren unter anderem eine Szene in einer Schatzkammer des Dorfes sowie zwei über ein Schachspiel gebeugte Skelette im Gefängnis. Beide neuen Szenen sind in Paris nicht zu sehen, dafür allerdings ist die "Jagd-Szene", in der ein Pirat eine Frau durch ein Haus jagt, erhalten geblieben, während sie in den USA als politisch unkorrekt entfernt wurde.

Die Piraten in Paris können aber auch noch eine echte technische Premiere aufweisen: zwei Audianimatronics in einem Schwertkampf, bei dem die Klingen wirklich aufeinanderschlagen!

Comparing "La Cabane des Robinson"

The version of Disneyland Anaheim underwent a renovation in 1999 to become "Tarzan’s Tree House" and now features characters from the Disney classic film. In both the DLP and Walt Disney World versions guests wind their way to the top of the tree experiencing different rooms as they climb up the stairs, while in the new DL version a staircase takes guests up and across a suspension bridge to begin their tour at the very top of the tree.

In the American parks the tree is positioned back from the main pathway where years of lush vegetation cause it to blend in with its surroundings whilst in DLP it stands as one of the focal points of the land in the centre of Adventure Isle. In addition in the DLP version guests can explore the roots of the tree where an underground labyrinth twists and turns beneath the earth.

In Disneyland Anaheim wurde die Anlage 1999 umgestaltet in "Tarzan's Tree House" und ist nun die Heimat einiger Charaktere aus dem neueren Disney Klassiker. Sowohl in Paris als auch in Walt Disney World werfen die Gäste einen Blick auf die verschiedenen Räume, während sie die Treppen zur Krone des Baumes emporsteigen, während sie in der neuen Variante von DL erst die Treppen erklimmen, dann eine Hängebrücke passieren und die Besichtungstour in der Baumkrone beginnt.

Während in den amerikanischen Parks der Baum abseits der Hauptwege inmitten alter, natürlicher Vegetation fast verschwindet, bildet er im DLP einen optischen Anziehungspunkt, ragt er doch auf dem Zentrum der Adventure Isle hervor. Zusätzlich bietet sich nur im DLP die Möglichkeit auch das Wurzelwerk des Baumes zu erkunden, in dem ein Labyrinth versteckt ist.

Comparing "Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril"

 At the "Disney Studios" in WDW Indiana Jones appears in his own stunt show which allows guests to see how some of the film’s action sequence were created. While in DL "Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye" is a huge indoor attraction in which guests speed through massive sets of a ruined temple surrounded by explosions and fantastic special effects, truly one of the greatest theme park rides anywhere in the world.

In den "Disney Studios" in WDW ist Indiana Jones der Start einer Stuntshow, in der das Publikum erfährt, wie einige der Actionszenen der Filme gedreht wurden. In DL findet sich hingegen "Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye" - eine gigantische Indoor-Attraktion, bei der die Gäste in Jeeps durch aufwendige Kulissen eines verfallenen Tempels jagen, vorbei an Explosionen und fantastischen Spezialeffekten - wirklich eine der weltweit besten Attraktionen eines Themenparks.

Comparing "Adventure Isle"

While the DLP versions is dressed with exotic plants and seemingly vast pirate filled caves, the US parks have more of a "Davy Crockett" wilderness feel. Another big difference is that both the American islands can only be reached by raft from the mainland while the Paris version is linked to the shore by several bridges. The result is that in DL and WDW the island feels truly isolated from the rest of the park while in Paris most guests wander on and off the island as they make their way around Adventureland never really realising they are on an island at all.

Während die Insel in Paris mit exotischen Pflanzen und scheinbar endlosen, von Piraten bewohnten Höllen aufwahrtet, bieten die Parks in den USA eher ein Wildnis alla Davy Crockett Erlebnis. Ein entscheidender Unterschied ist, dass in beiden amerikanischen Parks die Inseln nur mittels einem Floß erreichbar sind und nicht wie in Paris über Brücken mit dem Festland verbunden sind. Daher fühlt man sich dort in Disneyland Anaheim oder Walt Disney World wirklich isoliert, während in DLP viele Besucher auf ihrem Rundgang die Insel betreten und verlassen, ohne zu realisieren, dass sie sich auf einer Insel befinden.

Comparing "Adventureland Bazaar"

The DL Bazaar portrays more of an African feel which works well in the surroundings but as one wall is completely open to main area of Adventureland it feels more like one single large store rather than a collection of smaller ones loosing much of the charm and intimacy which make the DLP version so special.

 

Der Bazar von DL hat im Vergleich eher ein afrikanisches Thema, das gut in seine Umgebung passt. Da jedoch eine Wand zum Hauptbereich von Adventureland hin offen ist, kommt eher das Gefühl eines einzigen großen Geschäfts denn das vieler kleiner Läden auf, wodurch ihm der Reiz der Pariser Version genommen wird.

Exclusive Attractions

In WDW guests can watch a revised version of the Enchanted Tiki Room called "The Enchanted Tiki Room - Under New Management" which retains some of the original animatronic birds with the addition of Aladdin's "Iago" the parrot and The Lion King’s "Zazu" the horn bill. Both American parks also feature "The Jungle Cruise" a boat tour through the deepest jungles.

Paris is home to Le Passage Enchante d’Aladin, a walk-through attraction featuring animated models which retell the story of Disney Aladdin and the a-fore mentioned Adventure Isle and Indian Jones Attraction.

In addition Captain Hook's Galley is moored in the lagoon next to the Adventure Isle. Nowadays this is an restaurant / attraction that can't be found anymore in the US-parks, but originally had been there ... It opened in 1955 in the Fantasyland of Disneyland Anaheim as the "Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant" with the same concept as the Captain Hook's Galley today: fast-food counters inside a pirate ship which's upper decks are to be visited as an attraction in it's own right. The lagoon in Disneyland California also featured a (considerably smaller) Skull Rock. It was renamed to Captain Hook's Galley in 1969 but closed on the 29th of August 1982, when it became the victim of an extensive Fantasyland reconstruction. The spot where it once anchored is now occupied by another Disneyland favourite: Dumbo, the Flying Elephant. But it was resurrected in all it's glory in the setting of of Adventureland in Paris, where it perfectly blends in and offers a great vista from all around the lagoon.

 

In WDW wird eine überarbeitete Fassung des Enchanted Tiki Rooms unter dem Titel "The Enchanted Tiki Room - Under New Management" gespielt, die neben den ursprünglichen Audioanimatronic Vögeln noch Aladdin's Jago und Zazu aus dem König der Löwen aufbietet. In beiden amerikanischen Parks besteht außerdem die Möglichkeit auf den Booten der Jungle Cruise durch den Urwald zu gleiten.

Paris ist dafür die Heimat der Le Passage Enchante d’Aladin, einer Walk-Through-Attraktion, in der bewegte Modelle die Geschichte von Aladdin berichten, sowie der schon erwähnten Adventure Isle und der Indian Jones Achterbahn.

Außerdem ist da noch Captain Hook's Galley, die in der Lagune an der Adventure Isle vertäut ist. Heute findet sich dieses Restaurant / diese Attraktion nicht mehr in den US-Parks, doch das war früher anders ... 1995 eröffnete das "Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant" im Fantasyland von Disneyland Anaheim mit dem selben Konzept wie heute Captain Hook's Galley: Fast-Food-Schalter in einem Piratenschiff dessen Oberdeck besucht werden kann und eine eigene Attraktion ist. Die Lagune in Disneyland Kalifornien wies sogar einen (bedeutend kleineren) Skull Rock auf. 1969 wurde die Anlage dann in Captain Hook's Galley umbenannt, bevor sie am 29. August 1982 schloss, um Platz für einen umfassenden Umbau von Fantasyland zu machen. An ihrem Ankerplazt finden sich heute ein anderer Disneyland-Star: Dumbo, the Flying Elephant. Doch wurde das Segelschiff in all seinem Glanz im Adventureland von Paris wieder errichtet, wo es sich perfekt einpasst und einen großartigen Anblick von den Ufern der Lagune aus bietet.
