The huge success of a seasonal makeover for It's A Small World at Disneyland Anaheim convinced the Imagineers at Disneyland Paris to try their own twist on this ride... In time for the holiday season 1999/2000 Celebrations premiered at Disneyland Paris, which is more than a plain copy of the US-concept, and became a returning holiday-favorite. Unfortunately there are no decorations on the colorful façade, so only a single board reading "Celebrations" above the entrance and after nightfall new colorful lights signal that inside a new experience awaits the guests, where the Imagineers recreated the most important and most festive celebrations in each of the continents and countries depicted with lavish decorations.

As soon as the boats leave the port and float graciously in the stream carrying them into the show building little signs on the right shore signal what is lying ahead, naming each of the festivities the guests will soon witness. Therefor 150 of the 280 Audianimatronics of the ride have been outfitted with new costumes and the sets have been lovingly adorned with additional ornaments, drapings and new colorful lights.

While singing the attractions themesong It's A Small World, that is uniting the world, by the Sherman Brothers in multiple languages the children from all over the world are busily preparing or celebrating their most special festivities of the year. The journey around the world takes the guests to the splendid celebrations of the most diverse cultures starting in Scandinavia, where Santa Lucia wearing a crown of fir-tree adorned with red and white ribbons hands coffee and cake to her guests. On goes the ride through Europe, where a traditional Christmas is celebrated, toward the Indian subcontinent, where Hindu-children in front of the famous Taj Mahal celebrate Divali - the end of the rain-season - putting on impressive, elaborate costumes and adding flowers to their hairs. The next stop of the journey is Africa, where guests are invited to join a Moon Celebration, the festivities taking place when the moon renews itself and casts a ray of cosmic light onto the wide landscapes of Africa where even the animals seem to celebrate (with a colorful light show). In Asia guests witness children busily preparing their new-year-celebrations, symbolized with a peacock and a red-golden dragon. But this are just a few highlights from the ride, that presents it's guests also Hannukkah, Sankt Nikolaus, Ramadan and Epiphanias, to name, again, just a few, before it reaches it's season climax with the home of Santa Claus himself (in the sets of what is usually the north america section of the ride).

The wordlfamous soundtrack with the hymn of one small world, the decent new decorations and carefully set new lights succeed in keeping the young and fresh, sorrow free atmosphere of the journey around the world to the children of all continents and races, in keeping the unique style of Mary Blair but in the same time ad a new element and the festive mood of the season. When guests leave this ride they are surely in Christmas mood, even so it is more than difficult to recognize all of the festivities depicted. But then this is not mend as an educational ride but a seasonal fun!

Since 2001 "Celebrations" stay in place till after the St. Valentine's Day far longer than the Christmas-season lasts. Therefor Santa Claus' home is transformed into a celebration of love complete with countless red hearts floating around...

Der große Erfolg der Umgestaltung von It's A Small World für die Weihnachtssaison in Disneyland Anaheim hat die Imagineers von Disneyland Paris überzeugt, ihre eigene Bearbeitung der Attraktion zu wagen ... Rechtzeitig zur Weihnachtssaison 1999/2000 feierte dann Celebrations im Disneyland Paris seine Premiere, das mehr als eine Kopie des US-Konzepts ist und schnell zum jährlich wiederkehrenden Weihnachts-Highlight wurde. Leider aber finden sich and der farbenprächtigen Fassade keinerlei Dekorationen, so daß nur ein einzelnes Schild "Celebrations" und ab Einbruch der Dämmerung eine spezielle farbige Beleuchtung darauf hinweist, daß Besucher im Inneren ein neues Erlebnis erwartet - denn hier haben die Imagineers mit aufwendigen Dekorationen, die wichtigsten und feierlichsten Feste aller Kontinente und Länder umgesetzt.

Sobald die Boote die Station verlassen haben und gemächlich im Strom schaukeln, der sie in das eigentliche Show-Gebäude trägt, erläutern Schilder am rechten Ufer, was die Gäste im inneren erwartet, zählen sie doch alle dargestellten Feiern auf. Für diese wurden 150 der rund 280 Audioanimatronics der Attraktion mit neuen Kostümen ausgestattet, die Szenen liebevoll mit zusätzlichen Dekorationen, Überwürfen und prächtigen, farbenfrohen Lichtern umgestaltet.

Während sie den munteren, die Welt verbindenden Themensong der Attraktion It's A Small World von den Sherman Brüdern in verschiedenen Sprachen singen, bereiten sich Kinder aus aller Welt auf ihr jeweils wichtigstes Fest des Jahres vor oder feiern es bereits ausgelassen. Die Reise rund um die Welt bringt ihre Fahrgäste zu den prächtigsten Feiern der unterschiedlichsten Kulturen beginnend in Skandinavien. Dort verteilt Santa Lucia, die einen Kranz aus Tannenzweigen mit roten und weißen Bändern trägt, Kaffe und Kuchen an ihre Gäste. Weiter geht es durch Europa, wo traditionelle Weihnachten gefeiert werden, zum indischen Subkontinent, auf dem Hindu-Kinder vor der berühmten Ta Mahal die Divali-Feier begehen - das Ende der Regenzeit - für die sie beeindruckende, bis ins kleinste Detail ausgearbeitete Kostüme tragen und ihre Haare mit Blumen verschönen. Die nächste Station der Reise ist Afrika. Dort erhalten die Gäste eine Einladung an dem Mondfest teilzunehmen, das stattfindet, wenn der Mond sich selbst erneuert und einen Strahl kosmischen Lichts auf die weiten Landschaften Afrikas wirft, in denen selbst die Tiere zu feiern scheinen (samt farbenfroher Lichtshow). In Asien können die Vorbereitungen der Kinder für ihre Neu-Jahrs-Feierlichkeiten beobachtet werden, symbolisiert durch einen Pfau und einen rot-goldenen Drachen. Doch das sind nur einige Höhepunkt dieser Reise, die auch zu den Feierlichkeiten zu Hannukkah, Sankt Nikolaus, Ramadan und Epiphanias, um wieder nur wenige zu nennen, führt, bevor der Höhepunkt folgt: die Werkstatt des Weihnachtsmanns (an Stelle des Nord-Amerika-Abschnitts der Fahrt).

Dem schon weltbekannten Soundtrack mit der Hymne auf die eine Welt, den dezenten neuen Dekorationen und vorsichtig integrierten neuen Lichtstimmungen gelingt es die junge, frische, sorgenfreie Atmosphäre der Reise rund um die Welt zu den Kindern aller Kontinente und Rassen ebenso wie den besonderen Stil von Mary Blair zu bewahren und gleichzeitig ein neues Element und die festliche Stimmung der Weihnachtszeit zu ergänzen. Nach dieser Fahrt ist jeder Gast in Weihnachtsstimmung, selbst wenn es schwierig ist, alle dargestellten Feierlichkeiten auch zu erkennen. Aber schließlich soll die Attraktion ja auch kein Bildungsunterricht sein, sondern eine weihnachtliche, feierliche Freude!

Seit 2001 bleibt "Celebrations" noch bis zum St. Valentines Tag erhalten, also deutlich länger als die Weihnachtssaison. Dafür wird dann die Werkstatt des Weihnachtsmann in eine Hommage an die Liebe verwandelt samt zahlloser roter Herzen...

 Up to the Christmas Season 2002 Disneyland Paris used the original soundtrack created for the It's A Small World Holiday attraction at Disneyland Anaheim. So instead of the normal rendition of the attraction's theme song a joyful medley of the themesong by the Sherman Brothers and the traditionals Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls underscored the experience and perfectly set a festive mood for the season with it's performance by a large children chorus. Since then unfortunately the park is using the Stnadrd song year-round. While still a festive ride, this did take a way some of the original atmosphere. But then the original version wasn't perfect either: as reprogramming the movement of the Audianimatronics is quiet time intensive, the movements were the same vor the christmas soundtrack as during the rest of the year, which caused some mismatches with the soundtrack - but only very attentive guests wereable to catch those.
For those who want to relive the original version of the makeover the soundrack is available on a CD-single and on the CD "Holiday Magic" at Disneyland Anaheim during the Christmas season. The tracks are so called "Ride-Through"-recordings which not only present the overall music impression but also small details as the caribbean twist of Jingle Bells to name just one of the many musical details that are easily missed due to the overwhelming impressions during the ride.

With the major rehab of the normal attraction in fall 2001 (during which even new AudioAnimatronics were added) new decorations and costumes for "Celebrations" were added too, which are even more elaborate and further enhance the atmosphere of all displays. Some of them have been, as far as their "Celebrations"-version are concerned, totally reconceived resulting in an improved story telling.

After the extensive rehab "Celebrations" had a unique soft opening - without any annoucement or signs at the attraction some of the decorations and costumes (but not the soundtrack) were added for the last weeks of the Halloween-Festival. As a special surprise the american western scene, which is transformed into Santa Claus' home for the christmas season had been decorated in style for the Halloween-festivities. This is now repeated every year...

Während der vollständigen Renovierung der normalen Attraktion im Herbst 2001 (in deren Rahmen sogar neue AudioAnimatronics ergänzt wurden) sind auch neue Dekorationen und Kostüme für "Celebrations" eingesetzt worden, die deutlich aufwendiger gestaltet sind und eine noch dichtere Atmosphäre kreieren. Einige der Szenen wurden dabei, soweit ihre "Celebrations"-Version betroffen ist, völlig neu gestaltet, so dass die einzelnen nun deutlicher zu erkennen sind.

Nach der umfangreichen Renovierung hatte "Celebrations" dann ein einmaliges Softopening - ohne Ankündigung und ohne Hinweise an der Attraktionen wurden einige der Dekorationen und Kostüme (nicht aber der Soundtrack) rechtzeitig für die letzten Wochen des Halloween-Festivals installiert. Als besondere Überraschung wurde dabei die amerikanische Westernszene, die während der Weihnachtssaison zur Werkstatt des Weihnachtsmannes wird, passend für Halloween umdekoriert. Mittlerweile ist auch das eine Tradition geworden...
