It's bright red color reflecting in the tranquil waters of the lagoon
the Captain Hook's Galley looks rather inviting, even so Skull Rock
already looms forboding behind it - so it is easily missed that the
canon doors on the side of the ship have already been opened and the
canons are aiming at the guests crossing the huge bridge from
Adventureland's main area toward Adventure Isle. So better be aware, some
of Captain Hook's love to shoot at their audience - while they are not
known to have hit anyone so far, some guests got drenched wet when the
canonballs fell into the water...
Captain Hook's Galley is one of the optical highlights of the settings of Adventureland, dominating the lagoon view of the Adventure Isle and luring guests onto it, where they can discovery the many hidden treasures of the tropical setting. It's high masts can easily be seen across the tree tops from huge parts of Adventureland helping travellers of all ages in their navigation. If approached from Adventure Isle guests can (if no shows are scheduled) enter the galley to enjoy the view over the lagoon or snap a souvenir photo. The detail rich ship brings back the dreams of being a pirate for children of all ages ... and the younger ones can even make it real, as a Pirate's Playground invites them in the shadow of the galley. Here they can climb, slide or just fool around while the huge skull on the stern of the galley stares out of its dead eyes. The bow of the galley is adorned with a full size wooden mermaid playing a harp looking out over the lagoon and the beaches and adding a tranquil, magical extra to the pirates' ship indicating that in the past it must have been sailing under a different, more peaceful flag, maybe as the ship of a prince looking for his princess... There is also a small sales point for snacks to be found on the lower level of the galley which can be accessed from Adventure Isle - but guests are not allowed to enter the galley's interior, instead the snacks are handed to them through the former canon windows. Originally designed to function as just one of many areas to explore around Adventure Isle and double as the perfect photo object the galley was rededicated as an outdoor stage in 2004 for Peter Pan to the Rescue. As it stars Peter Pan and Captain Hook, his galley was the obviously perfect location choice. Certainly the integration of the show into the huge, natural vista of the large galley in the lagoon does add a unique feeling to the show while also further adding to the atmopshere of the area, too. But there are also the drawbacks of the limited and less than perfect viewing spots for guests, crowded walk ways during showtimes and a rather problematic soundsystem. But then it is a unique experience to see Peter Pan and Captain Hook in a sword fight in the middle of Adventureland... |
Das strahlende Rot des Schiffes von Kapitän Hook spiegelt sich in
den ruigen Gewässern der Lagune - ein friedvolles Bild, auch wenn der
Totenkopf dahinter drohend auftaucht. Ein genauerer Blick zeigt jedoch,
dass die Kanonenklappen des Schiffes bereits geöffnet sind und auf die
Gäste zielen, die sich auf der Brücke zur Adventure Isle befinden.
Also besser Vorsicht walten lassen, denn einige der Piraten zielen gerne
auf die Gäste - zwar wurden die bisher noch nicht getroffen, aber
immerhin schon ordentlich durchnässt, wenn die Kugeln in der Lagune
landeten...
Das Schiff von Kapitän Hook ist einer der zentralen Elemente des Adventurelandes, dominiert die Lagune ebenso wie die Adventure Isle und zieht die Gäste an, die sich dann auf die Suche nach den versteckten Schätzen in der tropischen Umgebung begeben können. Seine hohen Masten dienen als Orientierungspunkt, recken sie sich doch weit über die Baumwipfel und helfen so Gästen jeden Alters sich zurecht zu finden. Wer sich dem Schiff von der Adventure Isle aus nähert, kann das Deck erklimmen (falls keine Shows angekündigt sind) und von dort aus den Blick über die Lagune genießen oder ein Souvenir-Photo machen. Das aufwendig gestaltete Schiff lässt die Träume jedes Jungen wahr werden, einmal Pirat zu sein ... nur wenige Schritte weiter im Schatten des Schiffes auf dem Piraten Spielplatz lässt sich dieser Traum dann weiterleben. Hier können die Jüngsten klettern, rutschen oder einfach nur herumtollen, während der große Totenkopf vom Heck des Schiffes aus seinen toten Augen alles beobachtet. Den Bug des Schiffes ziert dagegen eine lebensgroße, hölzerne Meerjungfrau die Harfe spielt und über die Strände hinausblickt. Sie gibt dem Schiff einen besonderen friedvollen Aspekt, der andeutet, dass es nicht immer unter den Segeln der Piraten fuhr, sondern vielleicht einst von einem Prinzen gelenkt wurde... Im Bauch des Schiffes findet sich auch ein kleiner Snack Stand, ebenfalls von der Adventure Isle aus zugänglich. Ins Innere des Schiffes dürfen die Gäste aber auch hier nicht, vielmehr werden die Snacks durch die ehemaligen Kanoneluken herausgereicht. Ursprünglich entworfen als perfektes Photomotiv zur Gestaltung der Szenerie, das nicht nur die Atmosphäre prägte, sondern die Gäste auch einlud, entdeckt zu werden, wurde das schiff 2004 zur Open-Air-Bühne umfunktioniert für Peter Pan to the Rescue. Das Schiff von Kapitän Hook war für die Show der ideale Spielort, stehen doch Peter Pan und Kapitän Hook im Mittelpunkt der Show. Natürlich profitiert die Show von ihrer Einbettung in die gigantische, natürliche Szenerie der Lagune, deren Atmosphäre durch die Show dafür auch belebt wird. Doch gibt es auch Nachteile, wie die wenigen guten Zuschauerplätze, überfüllte Wege und ein problematisches Soundsystem. Das ändert aber nichts an dem Zauber, Kapitän Hook und Peter Pan beim Schwertkampf mitten im Adventureland beobachten zu können... |

Viewing
spots are rather limited as there are no real stands, but guests have to
find a place on the walkways surrounding the lagoon. The action on the
galley is directed toward the actual lagoon, which means there is
nothing to see from the walkways on Adventure Isle behind the ship, and
only an extremly restricted view from the walkways next to the Pirate's
Beach playground, especially as the walkway down to the shore next to
the playground is closed off for the duration of the show.
The bridge from the main section of Adventureland to Adventure Isle is one of the prime viewing spots - especially for families with children as those can watch the action rather good through the gaps in the bridge cover. Similar good if not minimal better viewing spots are only to be found on the walkways on the lagoon's shore opposite of the galley, on both sides next to the director's cabin. The walkway at the far end of the lagoon toward Fantasyland (leading to the Pirates of the Caribbean) offers an acceptable but not really good view on the first meters. To get a prime viewing spot arrive about 30 minutes before the scheduled performance, especially with children, who need to get to the front line for a good view. Just don't forget: there is no option to sit down while waiting for or watching the show. For guests in wheelchairs and their companions the area to the left of the director's cabin toward the bridge is roped off. |
Die Brücke vom Festland zur Adventure Isle ist einer der besten Standplätze - gerade auch für Familien mit Kindern, da diese zwischen der Begrenzung der Brücke relativ gut hindurchsehen können. Eine ähnliche gute, vielleicht sogfar minimal bessere Sicht bieten nur noch die Wege direkt an der Lagune an dem dem Schiff gegenüberliegenden Ufer, zu beiden Seiten der Regiekabine. Der Weg am entfernten Ende der Lagune nahe Fantasyland (der zu Pirates of the Caribbean führt) bietet im Anfnagsbereich eine akzeptable Sicht. Um sich einen guten Platz zu sichern, sollten Sie bis zu 30 Minuten vor Showbeginn eintreffen, besonders mit Kindern, da diese nur aus den ersten Reihen einen guten Blick haben. Dabei gilt es aber zu beachten: es stehen keinerlei Sitzplätze zur Verfügung. Für Rollstuhlfahrer und ihre Begleitung ist ein Bereich links der Regiekabine zur Brücke hin abgesperrt. |

Captain Hook's Galley is one of the centerpieces of the vista around the lagoon
- and it
was also in the Fantasyland of Disneyland Anaheim... Certainly the
Galley is only based on but not an exact copy the actually galley Captain
Hook owns in the animated Disney classic - artistic freedom has been
granted to Imagineering here and certainly to the better of the whole
atmosphere. After all the beautiful mermaid as the ship's stern figure
looks much more postcard perfect that the skull the galley featured in its
place in the feature. It certainly is obvious that the galley originally was not set up to function as a stage for an outdoor show, so prior to the premier of Peter Pan to the Rescue on April 3rd, 2004, it had to undergo a major rehab, during which not only the whole galley was brought back to the splendor and the vibrant colors of opening day 1992, but also new rigging, themed platforms, ladders, special effect system etc. had to be installed on the ship - also a director's cabine had to be constructed on the opposite shore and the sound system of the area adjusted. Certainly this also meant that (at least for the summer half year when the show is running) access to the ship's deck had to be restricted, but the snack bar in the lower part of the ship continues to operate. After the premiere of the initial show it was realized that the structure of the wooden bridge leading toward Adventure Isle next to the lagoon was not designed to sustain the increased weight of the crowds watching the show from it for a lengthy period of time. Therefore the bridge's suspension system was upgraded on short notice. After completion of this task, which took only a few weeks including the planing phase, the bridge is now open for guests to enjoy the show from this perfect spot. |
Captain Hook's Galley ist einer der Höhepunkte im Panorama der Lagune -
und war
das auch schon im Fantasyland von Disneyland Anaheim... Natürlich
basiert das Schiff lediglich auf dem von Kapitän Hook im Disney
Zeichentrickklassiker eingesetzten Schiff und ist keine exakte Kopie.
Doch die künstlerische Freiheit der Imagineers war dabei zum Wohl der
Atmosphäre. Die wunderschöne Meerjungfrau als Galleonsfigur entspricht
doch viel eher dem Wunschmotiv für ein Photo als der Totenkopf, den das
Schiff im Film an ihrer Stelle zierte. Es ist offensichtlich, dass die Gallone ursprünglich nicht gedacht war, um als Bühne für eine Show zu fungieren. Daher wurden vor der Premiere von Peter Pan to the Rescue am 3. April 2004 erhebliche Umbauarbeiten notwendig. Im Rahmen dieser wurde das Schiff auch wieder zu altem Glanz wie am Eröffnungstag 1992 gebracht - mit neuen Elementen wie neuen Plattformen (natürlich mit passendem Themeing), Leitern, Spezial Effekten etc. Außerdem wurde eine Regiekabine am gegenüberliegenden Ufer errichtet und das Soundsystem in dem Bereich angepasst. Seitdem ist der Zugang zum Oberdeck der Gallone (zumindestens während des Sommerhalbjahres) auch beschränkt, der Imbiss im Bauch der Gallone ist aber weiterhin geöffnet. Nach der Premiere der ersten Show wurde festgestellt, dass die Konstruktion der Holzbrücke, die neben der Lagune zur Adventure Isle führt, nicht ausgelegt war, um dem großen Gewicht der zahlreichen Gäste, die von hier die Show erleben wollten, auf Dauer sicher Stand zu halten. Daher wurde das Tragesystem der Hängebrücke kurzfristig überarbeitet, so dass nur wenige Wochen später die Gäste die Show auch von diesem "Logenplatz" aus beobachten konnten - und noch immer können. |
