The Early Celebration...

It is already quiet common for the Disney Resorts worldwide to extend their special celebrations to last for a whole year - and the 10th anniversary of the Disneyland Resort Paris is no exception.
In this case the celeberations last from the 14th of March 2002 to the 5th of January 2003 and are centered around the Disneyland Park, even so the opening of the Walt Disney Studios theme park may be called the biggest of all birthday gifts, as indicated by the fact that the celebrations started two days before the official opening of the second theme park in the resort with VIPs and press already on site for this event, even so the actual birthday of the resort was nearly still a month away as it originally opened on the 12th of April 1992.

The official start of the celebrations on the 14th of March was marked by a special ceremony at the Central Plaza on the Anniversary Stage - which is in fact a giant birthday cake (certainly with 10 candles) that had been errected in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle in the middle of the plaza especially for this unique event to which all guests of the park had been invited but which also drew some very special guests among them Michael Eisner, the chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company.

After dancers kick-started the celebrations with a stirring performance to the all new, up-beat anniversary-song, which is also heared in the new version of the Wonderful World of Disney Parade, the ambassador of the Disneyland Resort Paris 2002 introduced Mickey and his friends together with countless Disney Characters from the animated classics on the stage to welcome the guest of honor: Roy Disney, Vice Chairman of The Walt Disney Company and Chairman of Walt Disney Feature Animation, who had been at Disneyland Paris already for its grand opening.

In his short but emotional speech he not only paid tribute to the Disneyland Park and the heritage of Walt but also to the thousands of Castmembers who let the magic become true every day since 1992:

Of course Walt never saw this magnificent park, but his spirit can be felt everywhere you look. The continuing popularity of the Disneyland Park is really a tribute to Walt and his lifelong partner - his brother, my father - Roy. Together they created magic. And one of the great things about magic is that it is equally enchanting in any language, in any culture, in any country anywhere in the world. If anyone had any doubts about the universality of entertainment magic, this park proves it.

Among the applause of the guests, castmembers and Disney characters for this very special birthday speech 100 children accompanied the official birthday cake onto the stage while small daytime fireworks accentuated the sky above the castle to bring the event to a close - but only the event and not the celebrations, which continued on that day with a nighttime fireworks display and still continues with shows, parades and surprises all year long...

 

Der Startschuss für die Feierlichkeiten fiel am 14. März im Rahmen einer besonderen Zeremonie auf der Central Plaza, genauer der Anniversary Stage - einem gigantischen Geburtstagskuchen (natürlich mit 10 Kerzen), der vor dem Dornrösschen Schloss im Zentrum der Plaza speziell für dieses Event errichtet worden war und rund um den sich Gäste aus dem gesamten Park versammelten, darunter auch auch Michael Eisner, Chairman und CEO der Walt Disney Company.

Nachdem Tänzer mit einer schwungvollen Darbietung zum neuen, munteren Geburtstagssong, der auch in der neuen Version der Wonderful World of Disney Parade zu hören ist, die Feier eröffnet hatten, hieß der Botschafter des Disneyland Resort Paris 2002 Mickey und seine Freunde gemeinsam mit zahlreichen Charakteren aus den Zeichentrick-Klassikern auf der Bühne willkommen, bevor der Ehrengast des Tages eintraf: Roy Disney, Vice Chairman der Walt Disney Company und Chairman von Walt Disney Feature Animation, der bereits für die große Eröffnung von Disneyland Paris angereist war.

In einer kurzen aber emotionalen Rede zollte er nicht nur dem Disneyland Park, sondern auch dem Erbe Walts und den Abertausenden Castmembern Tribut, die seit 1992 täglich den Zauber wahr werden lassen:

Natürlich hat Walt diesen wunderbaren Park nie gesehen, doch sein Geist ist überall zu spüren, wohin man sich hier auch wendet. Die ungebrochene Popularität des Disneyland Parks ist eine Art Huldigung für Walt und seinen lebenslangen Partner - seinen Bruder, meinen Vater - Roy. Gemeinsam erschufen sie die Magie.
Eine der unglaublichsten Eigenschaften der Magie ist, dass sie in jeder Sprache gleich verzaubert, in jeder Kultur, in jedem Land überall auf der Erde. Wenn irgendjemand an der Universalität des Zaubers der Unterhaltung zweifelte, dann überzeugt dieser Park ihn sicherlich.

Unter dem Applaus der Gäste, Castmember und Disney Charaktere für diese besondere Geburtstagsansprache begleiteten dann 100 Kinder die offizielle Geburtstagstorte auf die Bühne, während ein kleines Tageslichtfeuerwerk über dem Schloss die Zeremonie zum Abschluss brachte - aber wirklich nur die Zeremonie, denn die Feiern gingen am selben Tag noch mit einem nächtlichen Feuerwerk weiter und werden noch das ganze Jahr über mit Shows, Paraden und Überraschungen fortgesetzt...
