Royal celebrations even today tend to be a rather stiff event, impressive to look at but not really inviting – certainly not what you think of when you hear Disney, so the Disney Princess Parade is different. This becomes obvious even before the first royal dancers come around the corner thanks to the parade’s themesong "Dancin' (A Catchy Rhythm)". Even so a DLRP classic in its own right in the meantime it still sounds as fresh and captivating as when it was first heard. The upbeat melody and catchy rhymes welcome the guests to a celebration of Disney dreams and invites them to step ahead and join this magical celebration.

Before it is time for the royal stars of the parade Mickey and Minnie part the waves  / crowds on board of their steamboat. In their black-and-white costumes on their ship they look as if they come directly from the classic Steamboat Willie short. Around the ship not dolphins but plenty of other Disney characters bob along - Baloo, Goofy, ... none of them a princess or prince but all happy to join some fun.

Right behind the steamboat follow the friends of the first princess: the seven dwarfs greeting the guests. And if even Grumpy is winking and shaking hands Snow White can’t be far off – and really, on the float adorned by numerous of her wildlife friends she and her Prince are standing right in front of the famous Wishing Well. Their dream came true and they are sending their best wishes to guests, so maybe your dream will come true too? Which Disney Princess do You want to meet?

Noble women and men fly along the parade route next in their stylish ball outfits in a never ending waltz – it’s the court of Cinderella. Behind it six colourful horses galloping over the clouds are pulling the famous pumpkin coach holding not only Cinderella but also her Prince Charming.

Only a few steps behind them pages in their royal blue uniforms announce the entrance of Prince Phillip and his Princess Aurora aka Sleeping Beauty standing high above the street on a rock right in front of Malefiz who has transformed herself once again into a horrifying dragon that is towering high over the loving pair while stretching her wings toward the guests! But thank God Prince Phillip is their to guard not only his Aurora but also the guests.

Outfitted by the Genie himself the dancers then introduce the Arabian dream with Jasmine and Aladdin floating on the flying carpet high up in the air above Agrabah and out of reach of Jafar who as giant snake eyes the guests carefully – don’t say anything wrong now or his fiery breath may hit you…

The Beast is a far more gentle character especially as he engages in a dance with Belle surrounded by his whole kitchen staff of living plates, forks, cups and spoons but also human chiefs in a rather fantastic outfit. A love that made Belle the daughter of a poor inventor form a nearby town one of the most shining princesses ever in the universe of Disney.

But the final princess in this celebration comes from a totally different world – from under the sea! It is Arielle with her friends. Around her seashell a sea of fish and other creatures from the sea, all dwarfed by a giant Triton, celebrate a lively party with caribic music which does not really sound like your usual royal procession. Triton in the meantime seems to wonder, why Arielle's prince is missing...

The close the celebration the Princesses have invited Dumbo and his friends from the circus to add some extra laughter as their own court jesters seem to be missing. So Casey Jr, on top of which Dumbo found a spot, is pulling in the complete circus train with a fiercy lion in his cage, curious giraffes poking out of another waggon's roof and certainly enough clowns to make everyone laugh.

Disney with this parade is trying to invite guests into the elegant world of princesses and even so the soundtrack does not really fit this theme just as the two floats opening and closing the parade this does not diminish the magic at all as guests are carried away by the the mostly huge, detailed floats, the lovingly recreated characters and scenes from the movies when they glide down the parade route and start to turn and move, but also by the cast in the fantastic costumes presenting fitting choreographies. This and the mostly impressive floats and the line up of beloved characters do create magic on the streets making this parade a must for first time visitors of the Disneyland Park.

 Weltweit haben die Disney Prinzessinnen mit ihrem Mut und ihrer Anmut die Herzen von Millionen Fans jeden Alters erobert, seit mit Schneewittchen die erste auf der Leinwand erschienen ist. So ist ein Treffen mit ihnen auch nicht nur für junge Damen ein Höhepunkt eines Besuches im Disneyland Park.

Jedoch sind königliche Feierlichkeiten selbst heute noch eher steif – schön anzusehen, doch nicht wirklich einladend. Also nicht, was man von Disney erwartet und folglich ist die Disney Prinzessinnen Parade auch ganz anders. Das wird schon deutlich, bevor ihr Gefolge erscheint, dank des Themesongs der Parade „Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm)“. Auch wenn er selbst schon ein DLRP-Klassiker ist, klingt er noch immer so frisch und unterhaltsam wie bei seiner Premiere. Mit seiner munteren Melodie lädt er die Gäste ein, sich der Feier der Disney-Träume anzuschließen und Teil der magischen Welt zu werden.

Doch bevor es Zeit wird für die königlichen Stars der Parade teilen Mickey und Minnie an Bord eines kleinen Dampfschiffes die Menge. Mit ihren Schwarz-Weiß-Kostümen scheinen sie und ihr Schiff direkt aus dem Klassiker Steamboat Willie zu stammen. Rund um das Schiff tummeln sich nicht etwas Delphine, sondern zahlreiche andere beliebte Disney Charaktere, wie Baloo, Goofy, ... alles zwar keine Prinzen und Prinzessinnen, aber einer unterhaltsamen Feier allesamt nicht abgeneigt.

Direkt hinter dem Dampfer folgen dann aber die Freunde der ersten Prinzessin: die sieben Zwerge. Und wo selbst Grumpy gerne die Hände der jüngsten Gäste schüttelt, kann Schneewittchen nicht mehr fern sein – und wirklich da ist sie, gemeinsam mit ihrem Prinzen, umgeben von zahlreichen ihrer Freunde aus dem Wald, steht sie vor dem berühmten Wunschbrunnen. Der Traum dieser beiden wurde war – vielleicht auch bald schon Deiner? Welche der Disney Prinzessinnen willst Du treffen?

Schon gleiten in edlen Roben und eleganten Galauniformen die ersten Hofdamen und Edelmänner in einem nicht enden wollenden Walzer heran – es ist der Hofstaat von Cinderella hinter dem sechs farbenfrohe Pferde über die Wolken galoppieren und die berühmte Kürbiskutsche ziehen, in der Aschenputtel und ihr Prinz zu finden sind.

Nur wenige Schritte hinter ihnen künden Pagen in blauen Uniformen von der Ankunft von Prinz Phillip und seiner Prinzessin Aurora (Dornrösschen), die hoch über der Straße auf einem Felsen thronen, überragt nur noch von Malefiz, die sich in einen Drachen verwandelt hat, dessen Flügel fast die Gäste streifen! Doch Prinz Phillip beschützt nicht nur seine Aurora sondern auch die Gäste entlang des Weges.

Genie höchstpersönlich ist verantwortlich für die Kostüme der Tänzer des arabischen Traumes in den Jasmine und Aladdin entführen, die hoch über Agrabah auf dem fliegenden Teppich schweben, außer Reichweite von Jafar, der als gigantische Schlange die Gäste genau beäugt – jetzt nur nichts falsches sagen, sonst trifft sein feuriger Atmen vielleicht Dich.

Da ist das Biest doch ein viel willkommener Gast, besonders da er sich mit Belle im Tanz wiegt, umgeben von seinem ganzen Gefolge aus der Küchen – tanzende Teller, Gabeln und Löffeln, aber auch menschliche Köche in fantastischen Kostümen. Seine Liebe machte aus der armen Tochter eines Erfinders eine der schönsten Prinzessinnen aus dem Disney-Universum.

Die letzte Prinzessin dieser Parade kommt schließlich aus einer ganz anderen Welt – aus den Tiefen der Meere! Es ist Arielle, begleitet von ihren Freunden, die rund um ihre Muschel eine farbenprächtige Party feiern zu schwungvollen Rhythmen. Natürlich unter den wachsamen Augen eines gigantischen, alles überragenden König Triton, der sich zu Wundern scheint, wo Arielles Prinz nur bleibt...

Zum Abschluss der Parade habe die Prinzessinen Dumbo und seine Freunde aus dem Zirkus eingeladen, fehlen doch ihre eigenen Hofnarren. So zieht dann Casey Jr., auf dessen Dach Dumbo seinen Platz gefunden hat, den ganzen Zirkuszug in die Parade, komplett mit einem gefährlichen Löwen im Käfig aufmerksamen Giraffen, die aus ihrem Waggon ragen und natürlich mit einer ganzen Reihe Clowns für die Extra-Prise Spaß.

Mit dieser Parade bemüht Disney sich, die Gäste in die elegante Welt der Prinzessinnen einzuladen und auch wenn der Soundtrack nicht wirklich zu diesem Thema passt - genausowenig wie der erste und der letzte Wagen der Parade - so schmälert das den Zauber kaum, begeistern doch schon alleine die fast durchgehend unglaublich aufwendigen, detailreichen Wagen, die liebevoll Figuren und Szenen der Klassiker wieder auferstehen lassen, wenn sie die Paradenroute entlang gleiten und sich drehen und wandeln – ganz zu schweigen von den Tänzern in den fantastischen Kostümen mit ihren aufwendigen Choreographien. Dank ihrer und der beinahe durchgehend beeindruckenden Wagen und den zahlreichen beliebten Charakteren entsteht eine zauberhafte Atmosphäre, die diese Parade zu einem Muss für Erstbesucher im Disneyland Park macht.

 No matter where you want to watch the parade, depending on how crowded the park is, you should show up 15 to 30 minutes in advance. The only place to watch the parade while sitting is at the Castle Stage, but these seats (which are really cold in the winter) are occupied very long in advance. But what about combining a great dinner or lunch with a good view out of the warmth? Both is provided on the first floor of Walt's on the Main Street, U.S.A. but Castmembers won't be able to guarantee you a window-seat in advance.

Most guests line up along the Main Street, U.S.A. and Central Plaza for the unique sight of the parade with the castle as backdrop, while it is by far less crowded in Fantasyland in front of and opposite of the Pizzeria Bella Notte. There are also four points from where to get an "on the top"-view of the parade: right in front of the queuing area of It's A Small World, the balcony on top of the director's booth behind the seats of the Castle Stage, the pavilion at Town Square and finally the Main Street Station of the railroad (usually the most crowded of this four places that expecially the photographers like).

 A major element of the atmosphere of the parade is its theme song that has been borrowed from the Wonderful World of Disney Parade: “Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm)" (by Vasile Sirli and Jay Smith, performed by Sue Ann Carwell and Joey Diggs), which is really very catchy (as the title suggests) and has been a favorite not only of the DLRP-guests as it has even been exported to the EPCOT Center at WDW for a mini parade (it is available on the CDs "Les Parades en Musique" (edition 1998 & 2000), the CD "Une Journee a Disneyland Paris", on the CD "L'Album Anniversaire - 10 Disneyland Paris" and the single CD "La Parade du monde Merveilleux Disney" from DLRP). But even so the guests are immediately captivated by this hit song it does not really connect with the official Princess' theme of the parade which is questionable anyway since the Steamboat Willie and the Dumbo Circus Train floats were added.

Therefore originally right up till the parade went on hiatus for the Halloween and the following Christmas season in 2003 the parade stopped three times during its run along the parade route and the dancers performed an elaborate choreography in front of each float (with the exception of the Steamboat Willie float). For each float / princess a different score based on the animated feature's music was played and a unique chreography ranging from a waltz for Cinderella to exotic arbian dances for Aladding wooed the guests. These non-interactive performances during the stops and the score played for it actually recreated the atmosphere of a royal celebration from the different classics best. Unfortunately the stops and with it the music had been cut when the parade returned in January 2004.

The score was purely instrumental for all floats but the Aladdin one and had been taken from the instrumental score of the original Disney Classics Parade from 1992 for the other princess floats and from the score of the Wonderful World of Disney Parade for the Steamboat. It featured elegant symphonic suites running 1:42 each from the different animated classics starring the princesses enticing guests to join the glamorous ball. Each suite captured the musical essence of one classic by blending the different main melodies into one floating symphony thanks to the work of Vasile Sirli. Only the Aladdin float featured a new soundtrack that had been created by blending excerpts of several songs from the movie's actual soundtrack into one piece - including vocals and missing some of the elegance of mini-symphonies recorded for the other floats. This most propably is also why the track is missing on the single-CD release "La Musique de La parade Des Princesses" (EDDA020-2) that features the instrumental introduction to the parade and the five scores played during the stops for the other floats. The score for the steamboat float is missing on this CD too, as the float was only added after the CD had been released, but is available on the CD "Parades en Musique". It consists of an instrumental medley of numerous classic Disney melodies including THE Disney anthmen "When You Wish Upon a Star" that heralds the upcoming wonders of the parade in a beautiful, symphonic recording. In the end the change from this wide symphonic music of the stops to the catchy clap-along theme song added to the atmosphere and creates a unique Disney atmosphere guests just couldn't resist - far superior to the endless loop of the song used now. The CD with the no longer used score of the parade is still available in the shops by the way.

The Princess Parade premiered on the 12th of May 2003 as part of the Disney Princess Week replacing the Wonderful World of Disney Parade that had run since 1998 (with a short break in 2000 and early 2001). Unfortunately hopes for an all new parade did not come true as all but one of the Princess Parade’s floats as well as the costumes of the dancers actually were taken from the Wonderful World of Disney Parade – which did feature more segments / floats as it was not limited to the Princess theme. Soon fans noticed that Cinderella's coach was shimering in strong colors once again just as during its premiere in 1992 - obviously it had been treated to an extensive rehab.

Still there also is one “new” float - for Snow White, who had a different float during the run of the original Disney Classics Parade but was absent from the Wonderful World of Disney Parade in the last years. Alas her float is not really all new, as it basically is a redecorated version of the float used by the Christmas Carollers since 2001 during the Christmas Tree Lightning Ceremony. But thanks to numerous new decorations including the wishing well as its center piece this is only visible to the fan, even so the float is obviously created in a different style compared to the other huge, more colourful floats in the parade. Even so the float returned in January 2004 to the parade, it was used with a different decoration during Disney's Christmas Parade for Mickey and his friends.

During the Princess Week 2003 the parade was opened by Mickey and Minnie as presiding royal couple of the magic kingdom in their medieval costumes seated in a horse-drawn coach, but this opening segment was dropped once the Princess Week had ended. Only in the late summer of 2003 did the two return to the parade - but not as princess and prince but in their black-and-white costumes on board of the Steamboat Willie float which was taken straight from the Wonderful World of Disney Parade. For the first few days Mickey and Minnie were the final highlight of the parade, but in the meantime their float has been moved up front to start the procession even so this certainly drops the Princess' theme - but it answers guest demands that more Disney characters be included in the parade - by making the steamboat a kind of Character boat.

Another change was made when the parade returned from its holiday brake in early January: not only had the stops been cut but also the Dumbo circus train from the Wonderful World of Disney Parade had been added as the last float in the parade.

Ein entscheidendes Elemente der Atmosphäre der Parade ist

Daher stoppte die Parade bis sie für die Halloween und die folgende Weihnachtssaison 2003 pausierte dreimal entlang der Paradenroute und die Tänzer boten aufwendige Choreographien vor jedem Wagen (mit Ausnahme des Steamboat Willie Schiffes) dar. Für jeden Wagen / jede Prinzessin kam dabei unterschiedliche Musik zum Einsatz, basierend auf den Themen des jeweiligen Filmes, und einmalige Choreographien vom Waltzer für Cinderella bis zu exotischen arabischen Tänzen für Jasmin, die die Gäste begeisterten. Diese Darbietungen und ihre musikalische Untermalung erschufen die Stimmung einer echten königlichen Feier nahezu perfekt. Leider wurden die Stops und mit ihnen die passende Musik gestrichen, als die Parade im Januar 2004 zurückkehrte.

Dieser Score war für alle Wagen mit Ausnahme von Aladdin rein instrumental und stammte von der Disney Classics Parade von 1992 für die Prinzessinnen Wagen, bzw. von der Wonderful World of Disney Parade für das Dampfschiff. Er bot elegante symphonische Suiten der verschiedenen Zeichentrickklassiker, in denen die Prinzessinnen berühmt wurden, mit einer Laufzeit von je 1:42 - eine unwiderstehliche Einladung sich dem Ball anzuschließen. Jede Suite fing dabei das musikalische Herz eines Klassikers ein, in dem Vasile Sirli die schönsten Melodien des jeweiligen Films geschickt zu einem fließenden Stück verband. Lediglich der Soundtrack für den Wagen Aladdins wurde durch einen Zusammenschnitt kurzer Ausschnitte einiger Songs aus dem Soundtrack des Films kreiert - einschließlich Gesang. Dadurch fehlte ihm leider ein wenig die Eleganz, die die übrigen Mini-Symphonien auszeichnete. Das könnte auch der Grund sein, wieso auf der CD "La Musique de La parade Des Princesses" (EDDA020-2) zwar die instrumentale Einleitung der Parade und die Scores für die Stops der übrigen fünf Wagen, nicht aber für Aladdin enthalten sind. Auch der Score des Dampfschiffes fehlt, da dieses erst nach der Veröffentlichung der CD sich der Parade anschloss. Allerdings ist sein Soundtrack auf der CD "Parades en Musique" erhältlich. Er bietet ein instrumentales Medley einiger klassischer Disney Melodien, einschließlich DER Disney Hymne "When You Wish Upon a Star", die auf die folgende Parade in einer wunderbaren, symphonischen Aufnahme vorbereitet. Es bleibt noch festzuhalten, dass der Wechsel dieser weiten symphonischen Klänge und des eingängigen Songs zum Mitklatschen eine ganze eigene "Disney"-Atmosphäre entwickelte und wesentlich zur Atmosphäre betrug - eine deutlich der reinen Wiederholung des Songs, wie sie jetzt praktiziert wird, überlegene Alternative. Die CD mit der nicht mehr verwendeten Musik ist übrigens noch in den Shops erhältlich.

Die Prinzessinnen Parade erlebte ihre Premiere am 12. Leider wurden die Hoffnungen auf eine völlig neue Parade enttäuscht, da alle Wagen mit einer Ausnahme ebenso wie die Kostüme der Tänzer von der Wonderful World of Disney Parade übernommen wurden - die im übrigen dank ihres weiteren Themas auch mehr Wagen / Segmente aufbot. Immerhin stellten Fans schnell fest, dass die Kutsche von Cinderella nun wieder so farbenprächtig leuchtete wie 1992, als sie erstmals über die Main Street zog - hier wurde ganz offensichtlich eine aufwendige Restaurierung durchgeführt.

Doch auch einen "neuen" Wagen gibt es - für Schneewittchen, die während der ersten Disney Classics Parade noch einen eigenen Wagen hatte, in der Wonderful World of Disney Parade zuletzt aber fehlte. Doch wirklich ganz neu ist ihr Prunkwagen hier auch nicht, handelt es sich doch um den umdekorierten Wagen der Christmas Carollers, den diese seit 2001 während der Christmas Tree Lightning Ceremony benutzen. Doch dank zahlreicher neuer Dekorationselemente, besonders dem Wunschbrunnen als Mittelpunkt, erkennt das nur der Fan, auch wenn der Wagen sich deutlich von den übrigen größeren und farbenprächtigeren Wagen der Parade abhebt. Der Wagen war auch im Januar 2004 wieder mit von der Partie, obwohl er zuvor in Disney's Christmas Parade mit anderer Deko von Mickey und seinen Freunden genutzt wurde.

Während der Princess Week 2003 wurde die Parade von Mickey und Minnie als königlichem Paar des Magic Kingdoms in ihren Hofkostümen in einer Pferdekutsche eröffnet, doch dieses Segment fiel mit dem Ende des Festivals weg. Erst im späten Sommer 2003 kehrten die beiden in die Parade zurück - aber nicht als Prinz und Prinzessin sondern in ihren Schwarz-Weiß-Kostümen auf dem Steamboat Willie Wagen direkt aus der Wonderful World of Disney Parade. An das Ende der bisherigen Princess Parade angesetzt, waren Mickey und Minnie dann für einige wenige Tage das große Finale der Parade, mittlerweile aber eröffnen sie den Reigen, auch wenn das eigentlich nicht zu dem Prinzessinnen Thema passt - dafür aber wird den Wünschen der Gäste entsprochen, die mehr Disney Charaktere sehen wollten - mit dem Dampfschiff als Charakter-Schiff.

Eine weitere Änderung ergab sich, als die Parade im Januar 2004 nach der Weihnachtssaison zurückkehrte: zum einen waren die Stops gestrichen worden, zum anderen Dumbos Zirkuszug aber als Schlußwagen der Parade ergänzt worden.
