 After the Main Street Electrical Parade has glown away into the darkness at Disneyland Paris on the 23rd of March 2003, a new nigthtime spectacular now take its place:

Going a step further than its predecessor, Fantillusion is not only a spectacular nighttime parade that features floats and costumes made out of countless light bulbs plus incredible special effects as e.g. stroboscopes, fiber glass optics and darklight - it also tells a story in three acts...

When the Fantillusion fanfare and the opening announcement have faded, the sparkling lights of an enchanted fairy garden with twinkling, exotic flowers, buzzing drangonflies and butterflies soar onto the streets to an impressive instrumental score (by Bruce Healy) - among the blooming flowers beneath a winding rainbow Mickey stands and as soon as the parade stops he brings the audience the "Gift of Disney Light" by wishing upon a star. Out of the dark, Disney characters appear in a wonderful ballet among the fairy garden.

But there are evil forces even in the world of Disney and as the parade moves down the Main Street U.S.A. with the second act the mood is becoming darker as the evil Disney villains try to take control - Jafar, Ursula, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and above all of them Chernabog try to snatch the "Disney Light" away from the audience and threaten them to their own dark musical score based on their musical themes from the movies. As the parade stops their soldiers, the creatures of the darkness among them bats and spiders, flow out of the dungeons for a ghoulish dance number, culminating in a rising moment as the combined dark magic allows the villains to take control of the light! Each of them transforms himself magical into his darker larger than life self, Jafar into a giant serpent, Ursula growing bigger and bigger, Maleficent into the Dragon and the Evil Queen into the Hag Witch, while Chernabog towers above all of them stretching his giant wings even over the first rows of the audience and commanding dancing flames while hovering in the nightly sky.

But the powers of light and love are not yet defeated - as the villains move on to take their darkness further down the parade route the loving couples of some of the greatest animated Disney features dance into sight to instrumental renderings of their love themes - Ariel and Eric, Snow White and her Prince, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Jasmine, Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, Cinderella and Prince Charming all accompanied by their court. With them a shimmer of the Disney Light returns and as the parade stops, Minnie steps up into that shimmer and wishes back the magic gift of Disney Light! And with the help of the loving couples and the audience it is brought back. A happy ending that is celebrated with a waltzing finale dance number of the Disney characters (with music based on their love themes once more). Having restored the Disney Light, the magic and the love the parade moves on and the lights turn up...

This astonishing experience will carry the guests of Disneyland Paris into a world of fairy tales and magic as of 5th of July 2003 during the summer season and on selected dates. As the parade is not moving constantely but stops several times allowing each guest to enjoy all three acts of the story the waiting time for Fantillusion near the end of the parade route is significantly longer than for a constantely moving parade but therefor it offers its very own, unique spell that has enchanted already millions at Tokyo Disneyland.

Dabei geht Fantillusion einen Schritt weiter als ihr Vorgänger, ist nicht nur eine spektakuläre Nachtparade mit Wagen und Kostüme aus tausenden Glühbirnen, die unglaubliche Effekte aufbietet wie Stroboskope, Fiberglassoptiken und Schwarzlicht - Fantillusion erzählt eine Geschichte in drei Akten...

Wenn die Fantillusion-Fanfare und die Ansage verklungen ist, tanzen die blitzenden Lichter eines verzauberten Feengartens mit glitzernden, exotischen Pflanzen und schwirrenden Libellen und Schmetterlinge in die Straßen begleitet von einem beeindruckenden Instrumentalsoundtrack (von Bruce Healy) - zwischen den Blüten unter einem Regenbogen steht Mickey und sowie die Parade stoppt, bringt er den Gästen das "Geschenkt des Disney Lichts", indem er sich auf einen Stern besinnt. Aus der Dunkelheit erscheinen nun Disney Charaktere in einem wundervollen Ballet inmitten des Feengartens.

Doch selbst in der Welt von Disney existieren dunkle Mächte und wenn die Parade weiter die Main Street U.S.A. hinunterzieht wird die Stimmung mit dem zweiten Akt bedrohlicher, übernehmen doch die Disney Bösewichte - Jafar, Urusla, Malefiz und die böse Königin - die Kontrolle, versuchen unter der Führung Chernabogs das "Disney Licht" zu stehlen, bedrohen die Gäste mit ihrer Magie untermalt von einem bedrohlichen Score (basierend auf den jeweiligen musikalischen Themen aus den Filmen). Wenn die Parade stoppt, wagen sich die Soldaten der dunklen Mächte, darunter Feldermäuse und Spinnen, aus ihren Verließen und wirbeln in einem geisterhaften Tanz der in einem furchtbaren Moment im Diebstahl des Lichts seinen Höhepunkt findet. Nun verwandeln sich die Bösewichte in ihr dunkleres, überlebensgroßes Ich, Jafar in eine gigantische Schlange, Ursula in ein überdimensionales Abbild ihrer selbst, Malefiz in den Drachen und die böse Königin in die Hexe, während Chernabog mit ausgestreckten Flügeln, die noch über die ersten Reihen des Publikums reichen, über allen im nächtlichen Himmel schwebt und tanzende Flamen dirigiert.

Doch die Kräfte des Lichts und der Liebe sind noch nicht besiegt - die Bösewichte und ihre dunklen Mächte ziehen weiter und plötzlich tanzen die Liebespaare aus einigen der beliebtesten Disney Zeichentrickfilme herbei, untermalt von instrumentalen Variationen ihrer Liebesthemata - Ariel und Eric, Schneewittchen und ihr Prinz, Die Schöne und das Biest, Aladdin und Jasmin, Prinzessin Aurora und Prinz Phillip, Cinderella und ihr Prinz, alle in Begleitung ihres Hofstaates. Mit ihnen kehrt ein Schimmer des Disney Lichts zurück und ist die Parade erst zum stehen gekommen, tritt Minnie hervor und wünscht das magische Geschenk des Disney Lichts zurück. Ein Wunsch der mit der Hilfe der Liebespaare und der Gäste in Erfüllung geht! Dieses Happy End wird mit einem großen walzerseeligen Medley und einem Tanz der Paare gefeiert (musikalisch erneut basierend auf den Themen aus den Filmen). Nachdem sie das Disney Licht, den Zauber und die Liebe zurückgebracht haben, rollt die Parade weiter und die Lichter erheben sich wieder...

Diese beeindruckende Erlebnis wird die Gäste von Disneyland Paris ab dem 5. Juli 2003 während der Sommermonate und an ausgewählten Terminen in die Welt der Märchen und des Zaubers entführen. Da die Parade sich nicht fortwährend bewegt, sondern verschiedene Stops einlegt, die es jedem gast ermöglichen, alle drei Akte zu erleben, ist die Wartzeit im hinteren Bereich der Paradenroute deutlich länger als bei einer durchgehend laufenden Parade - doch dafür hat Fantillusion auch ihren ganz eigen Zauber, der bereits Millionen in Tokyo Disneyland begeisterte.

 No matter where you want to watch the parade, depending on how crowded the park is, you should show up 15 to 30 minutes in advance. The only place to watch the parade while sitting is at the Castle Stage, but these seats (which are really cold in the winter) are occupied very long in advance. But what about combining a great dinner with a good view out of the warmth? Both is provided on the first floor of Walt's on the Main Street U.S.A. but Castmembers won't be able to guarantee you a window-seat in advance.

Most guests line up along the Main Street U.S.A. and Central Plaza for the unique sight of the parade with the castle as backdrop, while it is by far less crowded in Fantasyland in front of and opposite of the Pizzeria Bella Notte. There are also four points from where to get an "on the top"-view of the parade: right in front of the queuing area of It's A Small World, the balcony on top of the director's booth behind the seats of the Castle Stage, the pavilion at Town Square and finally the Main Street Station of the railroad (usually the most crowded of this four places that expecially the photographers like).

To capture the magic of Disney's Fantillusion on a photo switch off the flash light (if possible or, if not, put something in front of it) and instead prolong the time of exposure. At Town Square Photography (and at most specialized photostores all around the world) special films for nighttime-pictures are available, which allow sharper nighttime-pictures with a short exposure-time.

 When Disney's Fantillusion premiered at Tokyo Disneyland on the 21st of July 1995 as follow-up to the Main Street Electrical Parade (just as it will happen in DLP in 2002) it was not only the world premier of a new Disney nighttime parade but also a world premier for the cast members of the Disney resorts. For the first time ever, all four Disney resorts had combined their creative forces, including those of Disneyland Paris, to create a new attraction - Fantillusion. So it is more than fitting that the parade - after closing in Tokyo - is to make a room for a new nighttime parade has been transfered to another Disney resort.

For all that want to get a first glimpse of the musical side of Fantillusion there is good news: Tokyo Disneyland did release the soundtrack of the parade, which not only includes the opening announcement, all dialogs and the music as played through the speakers of the floats, but also three tracks with a special mix of the underliner and the floats' score.
The underliner is the musical backdrop of the parade, a changing rendition of its main theme that is played through the stationary loudspeakers along the parade route and which, for the audiences, mixes with the score and the dialog from the floats, which are played on the loudspeakers located on each float. Even so only a small fraction of the soundtrack has been chosen to be featured in the three tracks this offers the unique opportunity to recreate the listening experience as along the parade route. For all technical interested: the underliner is playing on the left speaker, the float's score and dialog on the right speaker alowing to adjust the listening experience through the balance.
The CD was reissued on time for the farewell of Disney's Fantillusion at Tokyo Disneyland in spring 2001 and is available in Japan or at Amazon.com.

The score of the parade, which is entirely instrumental with only some short dialogs for Mickey, Minnie and each of the villains inserted, is dominated by the majestic Fantillusion Theme composed by Bruce Healey (which just as some other elements and the overall atmosphere of the score is somehow similar to the theme of "Fantasmic!" which he composed in 1992 - but then both shows have a similar basic storyline of the fight between good and evil and feature similar scenes). Healy manged to mix the main motiv seamlessly with the musical themes of the Disney songs he used as score of the floats. While the score of the first act (The Enchanted Fairy Garden) is very light and joyfull (using some upbeat melodies out of the Disney vault including "Heigh-Ho"), the second act (The Evil Villains) are dark and powerfull, intimidating, with the thrid act (The Happy Ending / Heroes and Heroines) being again light but more powerfull, majestic than before using love themes for each couple in waltz-style. Certainly the recording is in a fitting majestic style - as it involved hundreds of musicians and took over 8 months in Los Angeles to get finished.

For Paris the original soundtrack is used - including the all-English dialogue of the characters - with one small change: "Tokyo Disneyland" has been replaced in the opening announcement with "Disneyland Park". Unfortunately not everything else has been copied that exact from Japan ... only 13 of the original 45 floats were obtained by the Disneyland Resort Paris, which is also reflected in an according reduction of castmembers involved down to 88 dancers and characters. But those 13 floats include all major floats.

Would You have known - that the parade features over 1.3 million tiny light bulbs?

Als Disney's Fantillusion am 21. Juli 1995 in Tokyo Disneyland als Nachfolger der Main Street Electrical Parade Premiere feierte (so wie es sich 2002 auch in DLP wiederholen wird), war das nicht nur die Weltpremiere einer neuen Disney Nacht-Parade, sondern auch eine Weltpremiere für die Castmember der Disney Resorts. Erstmals hatten alle vier Disney Resorts, darunter natürlich auch Disneyland Paris, ihre kreativen Kräfte vereint, um eine neue Attraktion zu entwickeln - Fantillusion. So ist es mehr als passend, dass nach der letzten Show in Tokyo, wo Fantillusion einer neuen Nachtparade weichen musste, die Parade nun in ein anderes Disney Resort transferiert wurde.

Für alle, die einen ersten Vorgeschmack auf die musikalische Seite der Parade suchen, gibt es eine gute Meldung: Tokyo Disneyland hat den Soundtrack der Parade auf CD veröffentlicht, und zwar nicht nur einschließlich der Ansage zu Beginn der Parade und der Musik, die die Wagen begleitet, sowie sämtlicher Dialoge, sondern zusätzlich mit 3 Tracks, die einen speziellen Mix des Scores der Wagen und des Underliners bietet.
Der Underlinder bildet den musikalischen "Hintergrund" der Parade - dabei handelt es sich um wechselnde Variationen des Hauptthemas, die über die stationären Lautsprecher entlang der Route gespielt werden und sich für das Publikum mit der Musik und den Dialogen der Wagen vermischen, die durch die Lautsprecher jedes Wagens zu hören sind. Auch wenn nur ein kleiner Bruchteil des Soundtracks für die drei Tracks ausgewählt wurde, bieten sie doch eine einmalige Gelegenheit, das akkustische Erlebnis aus dem Park nachzustellen. Für alle technisch interessierten: der Underliner liegt auf dem linken Tonkanal, während der Score der Wagen auf dem rechten liegt und somit eine Regulierung über die Balance-Control gestattet.
Die CD wurde rechtzeitig zum Abschied von Fantillusion aus Tokyo Disneyland im Frühjahr 2001 neu aufgelegt und ist in Japan sowie über Amazon.com erhältlich.

Der Soundtrack der Parade, der ausschließlich instrumental ist mit Ausnahme einiger kurzer eingefügter Dialoge für Mickey, Minnie und jeden der Bösewichte, wird von dem majestätischen Fantillusion Thema von Bruce Healy dominiert (das wie auch einige weitere Passagen und die Gesamtatmosphäre der Musik streckenweise ein wenig an das Thema von "Fantasmic!" erinnert, das er bereits 1992 komponierte - allerdings haben beide Shows eine auf dem Kampf zwischen Gut und Böse basierende Handlung und weisen sogar ähnliche Szenen auf). Bruce Healy ist es gelungen, das Hauptmotiv scheinbar nahtlos mit bekannten Disney Melodien zu verbinden, die als Score der Wagen dienen. Während der erste Akt (The Enchanted Fairy Garden) sehr leicht und fröhlich gehalten ist (unter Verwendung bekannter, munterer Melodien aus dem Disney Fundus wie "Heigh-Ho"), geriet der zweite Akt (The Evil Villains) passend dunkel und einschüchternd, während im dritten Akt (The Happy Ending / Heroes and Heroines) erneut die leichten Klänge vorherrschen, die hier aber kraftvoller, majestätischer erklingen, nutzen sie doch Waltzerarrangements der bekannten Liebessongs. Natürlich ist die Aufnahme auch entsprechend beeindruckend, waren doch hunderte Musiker für mehr als 8 Monate mit ihr in Los Angeles beschäftigt.

Für Paris wird der Original Soundtrack einschließlich der Englischen Dialoge verwendet, lediglich die Eröffnungsansage wurde von "Tokyo Disneyland" auf "Disneyland Park" angepasst.
