 Posters did show up in the shopwindows of the Main Street U.S.A. as early as February 2001 and finally on Friday the 30th March the circus came to town and stayed till the 30th of September! Not any circus certainly but a very special circus: a toon circus, to be correct Disney's Toon Circus.

As soon as guests enter the Main Street U.S.A. they will feel the change - Town Square has been transformed to Toon Square with the pavilion now featuring a bright and funny clown's face as its roof. Along the Main Street hugh poles have been erected with another little clown's face on top from which a poster for the Toon Circus dangles onto the street into which the colored bases of the poles also reach out. The whole decoration in addition to the multicolored circus themed shopwindows with countless Disney characters, the clonewsque circus-style bands performing and the motorcars with their special decoration set a light atmosphere very Disney- and very Toon-like and not at all as before on Main Street.

No question here: the circus, the Toon Circus is in town! But looking for the circus tent wouldn't be sucessful at all, as this circus is performing right on the Main Street and Toon Square up to five times daily - and it's bringing its own three rings (some say: floats) along!

Shortly before the circus parade arrives on the Main Street a catchy tune - "And Now You Enter the Circus" - sets the mood and heightens the anticipation till Mickey Mouse as the ringmaster opens the parade in his colorful mobile. He is followed by more than 50 clowns and artists on foot, bicycle or push-bike, Disney Characters as Gepetto, King Louie or Chip'n Dale in colorful costumes and three large floats...

The first one (if the parade runs from Fantasyland toward the Main Street, otherwise the last one) is a high towering steel construction from which a trapeze is suspended. This is where the dream of flying will come true for Hyacinth-Hippo, who is the hippopotamus ballerina from Fantasia.
The second ring is pulled by the little circus train Casey Jr. - the most elaborate and beautiful float of the whole parade. On top of the little train stands Dumbo flapping his large ears toward the cheering guests... climbing around between the lion cage and some other carriages that surround the ring are Roger Rabbit and his crew of firemen.
Last but not least four wonderful adorned horses pull a blue boxing ring into sight on which Goofy and Clarabella prepare for a very special dance in a comical farce.

Soon the catchy themesong comes to an end and the parade settles down for the circus show, as this is a mix of a show and a parade which comes alive not so much through the bright floats but the artists, clowns, characters and their show. At each of the three rings a different performance is entertaining the guests, with Mickey driving around introducing the show acts as the ringmaster.

As soon as the parade settles down and the clowns and artists spread along the street to entertain the guests with their makeshift performances, juggling balls, dancing around and doing stunning acrobatics on the ground a new soundtrack sets in that dramatically underscores the performances on the three floats, featuring circus-style symphonic recordings of famous Disney tunes that just brighten every mood.

No introduction is neccessary for the Goofy but Mickey anyway comes by as Goofy in his boxring is presenting himself as - you won't believe it, till you saw him pushing the weights - the strongest man alive! In a comical routine he struggles with weights and warm up preparation ... but not for a fight but instead another rather comical performance: a dance with Clarabella. While this is quiet entertaining for fans of Goofy or comical farces there are no real acrobatics to see here besides what the really great clowns around the float present and a consistent storyline is missing.

A even bigger cast is assembled for the performances on, around and above(!) the little circus train Casey Jr. Roger Rabbit has somehow become the head of a crew of firemen who are all clowns. As there is no fire to extinguish a crazy race starts all around the train, through it's carriages (except that lion's one) and up and down a ladder and pole standing straight upward on the float. Here it is where the acrobatic performance takes place: a impressing balance act. But this is just one element of the fastpaced performance, as suddenly a fire erupts! Rogers trousers somehow caught fire!! Fortunately Minnie is around and together with Mickey, who comes around to prevent the worst, and Chip'n Dale they bring a huge bucket full of water to extinguish the fire. Maybe a bit less of water would have been preferred by the guests as Roger suddenly gets the idea of extinguishing the fire of laughter among the audience... Altogether the fastpaced comical performance succeeds in entertaining it's audience thanks to a strong storyline winding throughout all the of the show and some impressive acrobatics.

But the highlight of the parade is, no question here, the one float that looks most plain: the huge steel construction above a colorful matress. This where clowns and bees join forces more or less for a top-class trapeze act high up above the audience that would be a highlight for every circus! Sitting below and admiring the stunning acrobatics of the artists flying through the sky and doing incredible stunts, which let the audience gasp when they nearly miss the trapeze only to catch it in the last second after another breakneak leap, is Hyacinth-Hippo. Asked why she is so sad she confesses: she always dreamed of flying weightless through the sky only once ... and as clowns have a big heart they will make here dream come true - but not without a proper sensational high class introduction, for which the ringmaster Mickey is on hand. And then Hyacinth-Hippo is pulled up into the air where she showcases a maybe acrobatic less impressive but somehow very graceful ballet in the air as she is a real ballerina. A performance the clowns and trapaze acrobats applaud together with Mickey who even bows infront of her! Clearly this is the most entertaining and unique performance of Disney's Toon Circus combining real high-class acrobatics that stun the audience with a hearttouching storyline...

But all too soon, 20 short minutes after the performances started, Mickey gives the signal and all say goodbye to the guests, give a last bow, the catchy themesong sets in and the parade moves on with only some clowns racing behind and doing some last little tricks...

What makes this parade so outstanding is the unique combination of the Disney style with the catchy upbeat music and the beloved characters and the stunning circus acrobatics. Thanks to these impressive live performances and the clowns showing off some smaller tricks and gags all around the street the parade lives and is everytime different. This is an all new type of entertainment that catches the audience and carries them away, brightens the mood of every guest.

Still the reaction shows very clearly, that the trapeze acrobatics at Hyacinth-Hippo's float are the most impressive performance, with the balanced mixture of acrobatics and a comic story line at the little circus train Casey Jr. coming in second and the pure comic show of Goofy coming in on a third place. But it's really worth taking the time and following Mickey into his circus - so come, follow the toons...

 Erste Plakate tauchten schon im Februar 2001 in den Schaufenstern auf der Main Street U.S.A. auf und am 30. März kam dann endlich der Circus in die Stadt und blieb bis zum 30. September! Nicht irgendein Circus natürlich, sonder ein ganz besonderer: ein Toon Circus, um exakt zu sein, Disney's Toon Circus.

Sobald die Gäste die Main Street U.S.A. betreten, bemerken sie die Veränderung - Town Square wurde in Toon Square verwandelt und das Dach des Pavillons ziert nun ein riesiges Clownsgesicht. Entlang der Main Street wurden große Säulen errichtet, auf deren Spitze kleine Clownsgesichter thronen und von denen Circusplakate in die Straße hineinbaumeln, ebenso wie sich die farbenfrohen Podeste zu Füßend er Säule bis auf die Straße erstrecken. Die gesamte Dekoration, die mit zahlreichen Figuren thematisch gestalteten Schaufenster, die Circus-Bands, die auftreten, und auch die dekorierten Motorwagen kreieren eine muntere Disney- und Toon-lastige Stimmung, ganz anders als sonst in der Main Street.

Keine Frage: der Circus, der Toon Circus ist in der Sadt! Nach dem Circuszelt zu suchen, wäre aber sinnlos, denn dieser Circus tritt in der Main Street und auf dem Toon Square auf und zwar bis zu fünf mal täglich - und seine eigenen drei Manegen (manche sagen: Wagen) bringt er auch gleich mit!

Kurz bevor die Circusparade auf der Main Street eintrifft, erklingt ein eingängiger Song - "And Now You Enter the Circus" - der die Stimmung setzt und die Erwartung steigert, bis endlich Mickey als Zikrusdirektor in seinem auffälligen Mobile die Parade eröffnet. Ihm folgen mehr als 50 Clowns und Artisten zu Fuß, auf dem Fahhrad oder dem Roller, Disney Figuren wie Gepetto, King Louie oder A- und B-Hörnchen in lustigen Kostümen, und drei große Prunkwagen...

Der erste (sofern die Parade von Fantasyland in die Main Street zieht, anderenfalls der letzte) ist eine hoch aufragende Stahlkonstruktion, von der ein Trapeze hinunterhängt. Hier wird der Traum vom Fliegen für Hyacinth-Hippo, die Nilpferd-Ballerina aus Fantasia, wahr.
Die zweite Bühne wird von Casey Jr., dem kleinen Cirkuszug gezogen - dem schönsten, bis ins kleinste Detail ausgearbeiteten Wagen der Parade. Vom Dach der Lock grüßt Dumbo mit flatternden Ohren, während Roger Rabbit und seine Feuerwehrmänner zwischen der Bühne, dem Löwenkäfig und den übrigen Wagen des Zuges herumtollen.
Last but not least ziehen vier stolze Pferde einen blauen Boxring heran, auf dem Goofy und Clarabella sich auf einen ganz besonderen Tanz in einer Comedynummer vorbereiten.

Bald verklingt der eingängige Song der Parade und diese stopt für die Circus-Show - denn dieses Spektakel ist eine Mischung aus Show und Parade, das weniger durch die farbenprächtigen Wagen als durch die Artisten, Clowns, Charaktere und ihre Show lebendig wird. In und um jede der drei Managen unterhält eine andere Darbietung die Gäste. während Mickey als Circusdirektor die einzelnen Darbietungen ankündigt.

Sowie die Parade gestopt hat und die Clowns und Artisten sich über die Straße verteilt haben, wo sie die Gäste mit Stehgreifdarbietungen, Jonglagen, Tänzen und beeidnruckender Bodenakrobatik unterhalten, setzt ein neuer Soundtrack ein, der die Show auf den drei Wagen dramatisch untermalt mit symphonischen Neuaufnahmen bekannter Disneysongs im Circusstil und damit jede Stimmung hebt.

Eine Ankündigung braucht Goofy auf seiner Bühne eigentlich nicht, doch Mickey schaut dennoch vorbei, präsentiert Goofy sich doch - man will es nicht glauben, bis man ihn beim Stemmen der Gewichte sieht - als der stärkste Mann der Welt! In diesem Sketch kämpft Goofy mit den Gewichten und wärmt sich auf ... nicht für einen Kampf im Boxring sondern für einen Tanz mit Clarabella. Das ganze sit für Fans von Goofy oder Sketchen recht unterhaltsam, doch fehlt die Akrobatik, die hier nur die Clowns rund um den Ring bieten und auch eine echte Handlung vermisst man.

Eine größere Besetzung hat sich derweil für die Darbietung, auf, rund um und über(!) dem Circuszug Casey Jr. zusammengefunden. Irgendwie ist Roger Rabbit der Leiter einer Feuerwehrtruppe aus Clowns geworden, die sich nun, da kein Feuer zu löschen ist, ein verrücktes Rennen rund um den Zug und durch die Waggons (mit Ausnahme des Löwenkäfigs) liefern, das auch die Leiter und den Masten hinauf und hinabführt, die auf einem der Wagen sich senkrecht in den Himmel strecken. Hier wird echte Akrobatik gebunden: beeindruckende Balanceakte. Doch sind diese nur ein Element der kurzweiligen Darbietung, denn plötzlich bricht ein Feuer aus - an Rogers Hosenboden! Doch glücklicherweise steht Minnie bereit, um gemeinsam mit Mickey, der das schlimmste verhindern will, und A- und B-Hörnchen einen großen Eimer Wasser zum Löschen heranbringt. Etwas weniger Wasser wäre den Gästen vielleicht lieb gewesen, denn plötzlich bekommt Roger die Idee, das Gelächter, das sich wie ein Laufeuer unter den Gästen ausbreitet, zu löschen ... So gelingt es der flotten Comedydarbietung ihr Publikum dank einer starken Handlung, die sich durch die ganze Darbietung zieht, und beeindruckender Akrobatik gut zu unterhalten.

Der Höhepunkt der Parade ist jedoch, das steht völlig außer Frage, der Wagen, der am wenigsten beeindruckend wird: eine Stahlkonstruktion, die über eine farbigen Matte aufragt. Hier arbeiten Clowns und Bienen mehr oder weniger zusammen, um einen Top-Class Trapezakt zu präsentieren, hoch über den Köpfen der Gäste, der eine Höhepunkt jedes Circus wäre! Zu ihren Füßen sitzt die Akrobaten bei ihren tollkühnen Stunts bewundernd, wenn sie scheinbar schwerelos durch die Lüfte fliegen, beinahe das Trapez verpassen und es nach einem weiteren Salto gerade noch erreichen, Hyacinth-Hippo - denn ihr Traum ist es schon immer, nur einmal auch so durch die Lüfte zu gleiten ... und da Clowns große Herzen haben, wollen sie diesen Traum wahr werden lassen - natürlich nicht ohne eine passende, sensationelle Ankündigung, für die Circusdirektor Mickey zur Stelle ist. Und schon erhebt sich Hyacinth-Hippo in die Luft, wo sie eine weniger akrobatisch beeindruckende, dafür aber äußerst elegante Darbietung präsentiert. Ein Luftballet, ist sie doch eine echte Ballerina. Dem applaudieren auch die Clowns und Mickey, der sich sogar vor ihr verbeugt. Eindeutig ist das die unterhaltsamste und herausragendste Darbietung des ganzen Toon Circus mit einer Mischung hochwertiger Akrobatik, die das Publikum in Staunen versetzt, und einer rührenden Geschichte...

Doch viel zu schnell, nach kurzen 20 Minuten, gibt Mickey das Signal zum Aufbruch und alle sagen den Gästen Goodbye, verbeugen sich ein letztes mal, bevor der muntere Song wieder erklingt und die Parade weiterläuft. Nur einige Clowns trödeln wieder ein bisschen, um noch ihre letzten Tricks zum besten zu geben...

Diese Parade ist dank ihrer besonderen Mischung ein einmaliges Erlebnis, vereint sie doch den Disney-Stil samt kraftvoller Musik und den beliebten Figuren mit beeindruckender Circusakrobatik. Dank dieser eindrucksvollen Darbietung und den kleienren Darbietungen der Clowns, die über all auf der Main Street auftauchen, lebt die Parade wirklich und ist immer wieder neu und anders. HIer wird ein völlig neuer Typus der Unterhaltung präsentiert, der die Gäste fasziniert und davon trägt, jede Stimmung garantiert noch aufbessert.

Doch zeigen die Reaktionen deutlich, daß der Trapezakt mit Hyacinth-Hippo das Highlight der Parade ist, während die ausgewogene Mischung aus Akrobatik und einer Comedynummer rund um Casey Jr. einen starken zweiten Platz belegt und Goofy in seinem Sketch den dritten Rang einnimmt. Doch es lohnt sich wirklich, sich hier ein paar Minuten Zeit zu nehmen und Mickey in seinen Circus zu folgen - also auf geht's, immer den Toons nach...

 No matter where you want to watch the parade, depending on how crowded the park is, you should show up 20 to 30 minutes in advance.

This parade is in fact more a kind of show - therefor it makes only sense to await it where it stops for the performance. This happens only once on the Main Street U.S.A.. The parade then strechtes from Casey's Corner all the way down to the Emporium and on the upper part of the Town Square, forming nearly a "T". It is not worth standing along the rest of the parade route, as the emphasize lies on the performance and not the floats - plus: some of the characters walking around the floats and not taking part in the show do join the parade not before it arrives on the Main Street.

Depending on what section is of special interest to the guest, he should line up in the according part of the Main Street U.S.A.:
- for the trapeze acrobatics of Hyacinth guests should try to find a spot either on the center of Town Square (the pavillon offers a bit of a raised standing point) or in front of Town Square Photography or the Emporium facing toward the Town Square,
- for Roger Rabbit and the mix of acrobatics on the pole with a comic chase it is best to line up at the Emporium, from where it is even possible to get a glimpse of Hyacinth,
- to watch Goofy as the strongest man alive in a comical perfomance the best place is in front of Casey's Corner.

For guests arriving late at the Main Street U.S.A. there are at least two places to get still good view - in both cases of the performance with Hyacinth. As here most of the action takes place high up above the ground on the trapeze one can have a good view across the guests in the front lines if standing a few meter behind them on the Town Square. For a good but very distant view the Main Street Station of the railroad can be recommended.

As there are no seats available on the Main Street U.S.A. the only way to see the parade while seated is combining the parade experience with a wonderful lunch or dinner on the first floor of Walt's - but Castmembers won't be able to guarantee you a window-seat in advance.

Unfortunately there are no special viewing areas reserved for disabled guests.

 An essential part of every circus atmosphere is the circus music - and for this very special circus it got a fitting twist in Disney-Toon-style thanks to Vasile Sirli, who composed the themesong and the score for the performance.
Before the circus parade even comes into sight it is announced by the up-beat circus-style song "And Now You Enter the Circus" performed by a the children chorus Babette Langford's "The Young Set". This is once more another great song by Vasile Sirli who already composed the songs for the Wonderful World of Disney Parade and the ImagiNations Parade, but while getting the guests ready for the spectacular it is less catchy the first time than its predecessors - but be aware it has a significant long-term-effect. On a side note he Vasile Sirli joined forces the first time with the new lyricist Boris Bergman here.
Having set the tone for the soundtrack then changes to an instrumental score as soon as the floats seddle down. Here Vasile Sirli made the unusual decision not to compose a score for each of the floats but one singular score that is played all throughout the area. This score combines classical Disney tunes (e.g. the Mickey Mouse March), which have been rearranged in circus-style, with new sections composed especially for the spectacular. The new arrangement and the energetic performance of the Budapest Film Orchestra dominate this score with the effect, that it works very well to underline the performance and set the atmopshere but seems less sophisticated.
The themesong (which is played again when the parade moves on after the performance) and the whole score (only omititng the announcements of Mickey as master of the ring) is available on the CD-single "Disney's Toon Circus" (EDDA016-2) (the song playing 4:55 and the score playing 11:22). Listening to this recording the score sounds more sophisticated and elaborate than at the performance, as the musical elements are here rid of the sound effects added in the park and as the listener now can duldge into the music without following the eye-popping show in front of him.
It's also interesting to note that the highlight at each of the three rings takes place at a different point time, allowing Vasile Sirli to individualize the score for this highlight shortly.

Guests who saw the Wonderful World of Disney Parade in the last years may notice a common float in the Toon Circus Parade: Casey Jr. the circus train. Originally created for the WWoD-Parade as the float of the Dumbo-section it has now been tentatively rethemed to look more toon- than just circus-style - a task that was handled very successful - to be transformed into the stage for Roger Rabbit and his friends. There for an extra car with a vertical pole has also been inserted around which most of the action takes place. As a result the Wonderful World of Disney Parade is now missing it's Dumbo-section.

The concept of Disney's Toon Circus is unique - while there have been parades who stop for performances to tell a story (e.g. Fantillusion) never before has a parade been concentrated that much on the performance aspect while reducing the number of stops to only one. Some minor problems were to be expected, but when they turned up they where solved swiftly.
Originally all three floats (back then in the order Casey Jr., Hyacinth, Goofy) stopped on the Main Street U.S.A. itself, creating a huge buildup of guests there - so huge that guests complained. But in it's second week the Hyacinth float moved to the Town Square stretching the crowds further and allowing now more guests a better view of the show, thereby easing this problem.
The large crowds are the cause for the characters unfortunately leaving the Main Street U.S.A. immediately after the performance with the parade, too. Originally it was planned that they would stay on the Main Street to sign autographs and pose for photos, but the rush of guests towards the characters were seen as endangering the characters and the youngest guests.

In case you wonder: the performers of Disney's Toon Circus presenting this stunning acrobatics all around the floats are not the usual parade-actors of DLP, all of them were especially hired from circus-schools or out of their circus-contracts! So what is shown here is the real high art of circus acrobatics, juggling and clowning...

Gästen, die in den vergangenen Jahren die Wonderful World of Disney Parade gesehen haben, wird ein Wagen der Toon Circus Parade bekannt sein: Casey Jr. der Zirkuszug. Ursprünglich wurde er für die WWoD-Parade gebaut und nun vorsichtig ein wenig mehr im Toon- als im Zirkusstil neu dekoriert - was übrigens sehr gut gelungen ist - um jetzt als Bühne für Roger Rabbit und seine Truppe zu dienen. Dazu wurde außerdem ein zusätzlicher Wagon in den Zug integriert, auf dem sich die Vertikalstange für die Akrobatik befindet und rund um den der größte Teil der Vorstellung stattfindet. Als Folge fehlt nun aber die Dumbo-Sektion in der Wonderful World of Disney Parade.

Das Konzept von Disney's Toon Circus ist einmalig - zwar gibt es auch andere Paraden, die für eine Darbietung stoppen (z.B. Fantillusion), doch nie zuvor wurde der Schwerpunkt derart auf die Show gelegt und gleichzeitig die Zahl der Stops auf einen beschränkt. Daher waren kleinere Probleme zu erwarten, doch wurden sie umgehend gelöst.
Ursprünglich stoppten alle drei Wagen (noch in der Reihenfolge Casey Jr., Hyacinth, Goofy) auf der eigentlichen Main Street U.S.A., so daß sich dort eine große Zahl Gäste versammelte - eine so groß Zahl, daß es zu Beschwerden kam. Schon in der zweiten Woche wurde daher der Wagen von Hyacinth auf den Town Square verschoben, so daß den Gästen nun mehr Plätze mit guter Sicht zur Verfügung stehen.
Wegen des großen Andrangs verlassen die Charaktere nun leider auch mit der Parade die Main Street U.S.A.nach der Vorstellung und stehen nicht, wie ursprünglich geplant, für Autogramme und Erinnerungsphotos zur Verfügung. Der große Andrang war in den ersten Tagen als eine Gefährdung der Charaktere und besonders der jüngeren Gäste erkannt worden.

Falls Sie sich fragen: die Künstler aus Disney's Toon Circus, die die atemberaubende Akrobatik auf und rund um die Wagen präsentieren, sind nicht die normalen Parade-Darsteller von DLP, sie wurden vielmehr speziell aus Circus-Schulen und aus Zirkus-Unternehmen engagiert! Was hier geboten wird ist die echte hohe Kunst der Zirkus-Akrobatik, -Jonglage und -Clownerie.
