Welcome at the

When the lights turn low in the auditorium and the curtain raises there is the madness of the backstage world - countless costumes and requisites thrown all over the place, dancers frentically huddling around the mirrors to top off their make-up... and onto stage strolls: Minnie, who had the idea for this show as a special surprise for Mickey to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Resort.
The stage manager is at hand to welcome the audience and Minnie to the rehearsal and introduce her to what has been accomplished so far...

This is the start signal for the musical fun as the dancers show off not only all the different lavish costumes they put on for each number but also the choreographies they came up with.
Off it goes and the energetic performance of the ensemble catches the audience already before the first guest star shows up - the Genie from Aladdin who takes the guest into an arabian dream. Afterwards with just a few fast grasps the arabian costumes transform into a lush caribbean look for the next number for which the singing part is done live by the stage manager.
After the first view numbers in classical Disney style the beat comes in for a hot rendition of the famous tune "Cruella de Vil" (who decided to stay away from that party) and a crazy jungle trip starring Baloo (from The Jungle Book) and Timon (from The Lion King) who get the dancers nearly exhausted with their fast routine by a modern rendition of their hit tunes from the animatd classics... but it's not yet time to relax as Goofy, Pluto and Chip'n'Dale are joining in to get the beat going. And once the Genie is back with his saxophone, Timon gets his fingers on the clarinet and Goofy takes a seat behind the drum set everybody knows that this music is goning to roll all over and besides the melody nobody wants to be cat in that moment...

But just when everything is coming along perfect and the show seems nearly set news is coming in that Mickey is on his way to the theater. Frantically everybody tries to hide the costumes and get off the stage leaving only the unlucky stage manager to welcome Mickey together with the audience. What shall he do now? He is going to present Mickey Minnie's surprise!
When the curtain raises it reveals the dancing cast dressed to the top for a show extravaganza. But as if that high-class, high-kicking revue style entertainment wouldn't be enough Mickey's pals are joining in the fun too with only Minnie missing - that is till the last curtain raises and onto the stage rolls a giant oversized birthday cake with 10 children from the audience and Minnie who all great Mickey who is totally suprised but soon joins in with the group to ask the guests in a powerfull ballade to "Dream Our Dreams Together". But everybody on stage and in the audience just has to sing along and does so happily when for the final bow the whole cast intonates the 10th anniversary song of the park.

In an explosion of colors the show comes to an high energy finale with another rendition of the park's 10th anniversary song - but what stays in the minds of the audience is the beautifull, haunting "Dream Our Dreams".
When the final curtain falls everybody in the audience will have had a great time - if he loves the Disney tunes that is. This show is just about the Dinsy tunes - there is no huge story to tell (even so the younger guests soon live along with Minnie), barely any dialogue (the bit that is there is presented in English and French to satisfy most guests), there are no huge sets (besides the birthday cake for the final segment) and there are no special effects. Instead the guests are treated to great songs (in unique, up-to-date versions with new hot arrangements), a really enthusiastic dancing cast which presents an incredible performance every time again and a live singing lead actor on which a huge part of the show rests. But thankfully the Castmembers chosen for this part do not only have a great voice (one maybe a bit more powerful than the other, especially in the short rap-sequence) but are also good actors adding the special touch to the interaction with the audience and the characters alike.

In shorter words: for sure not to be missed if you love the Disney characters and / or the Disney songs - it will leave you humming those tunes all day long - pure fun!

 Willkommen im Videopolis zur letzten Probe für Minnies Überraschungs Show - Stop, einen Moment ... was heißt hier Probe? Ist das nicht eine echte Show, die anlässlich des 10. Geburtstages des Resorts Premiere hatte??
Ja, schon - auch wenn es keine gigantischen Kulissen und Spezial Effekte gibt, denn das gleichen die beliebten Disney Songs und die Disney Charaktere leicht aus - aber dann ist es auch wieder ein Probe, jedenfalls laut der Handlung der Show...

Wenn die Lichter im Auditorium gedimmt werden und sich der Vorhang hebt, gibt er den Blick frei auf den alltäglichen Backstage-Wahnsinn - Kostüme und Requisiten sind überall verteilt, die Tänzer drängeln sich um die Spiegel (die übrigens Mäuseohren haben - wir sind ja bei Disney!)... als plötzlich Minnie erscheint - denn ihre Idee war die Show, mit der sie Mickey anlässlich des 10. Jubiläums des Parks überraschen will - und da ist auch schon der Stage Manager, der sie und die Gäste herzlich bei der Probe begrüßt...

Und das ist dann das Startsignal für den musikalischen Spaß, zu dem die Tänzer ihre zahlreichen, aufwendigen Kostüme und anmutigen Choreographien präsentieren können.
Und schon nach den ersten Takten reißt das Ensemble die Gäste mit, noch bevor der erste Stargast erscheint - Genie, der Flaschengeist aus Aladdin, der das Publikum in einen arabischen Traum entführt. Für die nächste Nummer, mit Livegsang des Stage Managers, sind dann nur wenige Handgriffe nötig und die arabischen Kostüme haben einen prächtigen, karibischen Look.
Nachdem die ersten Songs eher im klassischen Disney-Stil gehalten waren, wird es jetzt etwas wilder mit "Cruella de Vil" (die dieses mal aber nicht selbst zur Stelle ist für den Song) und einem verrückten Dschungeltrip mit Balou (aus dem Dschungelbuch) und Timon (aus Der König der Löwen) samt aktueller Variante ihrer Hitsongs aus den Disney Klassikern - da kommen sogar die Tänzer fast aus der Puste ... zum Erholen ist aber noch keine Zeit, denn auch Goofy, Pluto und A- und B-Hörnchen schließen sich jetzt dem Spaß an. Wenn dann auch noch Genie mit seinem Saxophon erscheint, Timon sich die Klarinette schnappt und Goofy hinter den Trommeln Platz nimmt - dann weiß jeder, dass der Beat jetzt regiert! Und trotz der Melodie, will in diesem Moment niemand eine Katze sein...

Doch gerade wenn als alles perfekt zu funktionieren scheint, trifft die Nachricht ein, dass Mickey auf dem Weg in das Theater ist! Eilig versuchen alle die Kostüme zu verstecken und von der Bühne zu verschwinden - zurück bleibt alleine der unglückliche  Stage Manager, um gemeinsam mit dem Publikum Mickey zu begrüßen. Was soll er da machen? Er präsentiert Mickey Minnie's Überraschung!
Wenn der Vorhang sich hebt, gibt er den Blick frei auf die Tänzer im eleganten Kostüm einer Top-Revue. Als ob aber die folgende beeindruckende Darbietung im Revuestil noch nicht genug wäre, erscheinen dann auch noch Mickeys Freunde auf der Bühne bis nur noch Minnie fehlt - d.h. bis sich der letzte Vorhang hebt und eine gigantische, überdimensionale Geburtstagstorte mit Minnie und 10 Kindern aus dem Publikum auf die Bühne rollt. Da ist sogar Mickey völlig überrascht! So dauert es ein bisschen bis er mit den übrigen zusammen in einer kraftvollen Ballade das Publikum auffordern kann "Dream Our Dreams Together" (lasst uns unsere Träume gemeinsam träumen). Doch jeder auf der Bühne und auch im Saal muß einfach sofort mitsingen, und tut dies auch freudig, wenn zur letzten Verbeugung der Song zum 10. Geburtstag des Parks angestimmt wird.

In einer Explosion von Farben kommt die Show dann zu einem energiegeladenen Finale mit dem offiziellen Song anlässlich des 10. Geburtstags des Parks - im Gedächtnis haften bleibt aber der wunderbare Titel "Dream Our Dreams".
Wenn der Vorhang dann zum letzten mal gefallen ist, hat jeder Gast eine tolle Zeit gehabt - wenn er Disney Musik liebt, denn genau diese steht hier im Mittelpunkt. Da wird keine aufwendige Geschichte erzählt (auch wenn das jüngere Publikum bald schon mit Minnie mitfiebert), es gibt kaum Dialoge (die wenigen werden in Englisch und Französisch dargeboten), es gibt keine spektakulären Kulissen oder Spezial Effekte. Die großartigen Songs (in einmaligen, aktuellen Versionen mit heißen Arrangements) und die enthusiastischen Tänzer, die immer wieder eine beeindruckende Show abliefern, machen diese Show aus - neben dem live singenden Stage Manager, für den es gleich mehrere stimmkräftige Besetzungen (die eine mehr die andere weniger, wie vorallem die kurze Rap-Einlage auch zeigt) gibt, die aber alle durch ihre Fähigkeit gefallen, mit den Gästen und den Charakteren gleichermaßen eine Verbindung aufzubauen.

Kurz gesagt: diese Show sollten Freunde der Disney-Figuren und / oder der Disney-Songs auf keinen Fall verpassen - die Songs werden Sie noch den ganzen Tag summen - purer Spaß!

 The theater has two seating areas - the lower one consisting of benches in a stadium seating style offers the best view of the stage action and is roped off till 30 to 20 minutes before the show starts. The upper half of the theater offers seating for guests of the Café Hyperion and is open all day 'round.
While each row in the lower half is set higher only every second row of tables is set higher in the upper half offering only guests sitting on the tables in the front row of each level an acceptable view. In addition several columns may partially block the view of the stage from this area.
So as long as no party member insists on dining during the show (food & drinks aren't allowed in the stadium seating area) try to get a seat in the lower half.

For a seat in the lower stadium seating section you should arrive 30 to 20 minutes before the show starts. On busy days make sure you know from where guests are allowed to enter the seating area. Depending on the number of guests interested the indoor access from Café Hyperion to the seating may be roped off and guests will have to enter from outdoors opposite the FastPass-Entrance of Space Mountain, where a queuing area can be prepared (this is also the designated stroller parking area, as no strollers are allowed in the stadium seating area).
To get a table with a good view of the stage in the upper half of the theater you should arrive aproximately 40 minutes early.
Guests arriving late when all seats are taken may decide to watch the show standing either on the stairs leading up to the dining area or on the ramps to the left and the right of the stadium seating.

In the final segment of Minnie's Birthday Surprise 10 children chosen from the audience are featured. If your child wants to join Minnie and Mickey for the celebrations make sure to arrive very early (not later than 30 minutes before the show starts) in the theater as the children are chosen by Castmembers prior to the show and are seated in the front row of the middle section. Prepare your child that it will be seated together with the other children and that you won't be able to watch the show with him as adults are not allowed in this row.
The children will be invited by the dancers to come with them backstage after roughly half the show. But as they won't come onstage before the last few minutes they will miss most of the second half. Also they don't play an active role as they are seated on the birthday cake only and don't join the dancing. Still they get as close as possible to Mickey, Minnie and the other characters for some personal interaction.
If your child is old enough to join the fun don't hesitate to ask a castmember when entering the theater wether your child could be chosen.

 Minnie's Birthday Surprise features some very special surprises for those who are more seasoned Disney fans...
Those who saw "Disney Classics: The Music and the Magic" in 1997 or 1998 may recognize that not only some of the dancers' costumes but most of the songs heared in the first half of the new birthday show have been taken directly from the show that premiered in 1997 as the fifth anniversary show of the

Fans of the show are in for a surprise if they get the CD "L'Album Anniversaire - 10 Disneyland Paris" (EDDA018-2) which includes a track called "Disney Classics, the Music and the Magic" running 3:26 from the soundtrack of the show with the same name. As mentioned before some of the material of Minnie's Birthday Surprise stems from that show, including the soundtrack segment beginning with the "Cruella de Vil" number, through "The Bare Necessities", "Hakuna Matata" and into (what is now) the band performance up to the instrumental of "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" all present in modern style with a strong beat. That soundtrack has been released for the first time on this CD - so now you can party to the all new version of some of the most beloved Disney Classics at home too! And certainly the 10th anniversary song performed during the last bows of the cast is included on that CD too.

Even so Minnie's Birthday Surprise does take more than a leaf of an old success production of the Videopolis, it also is another first for this theater: for the first time a long running production in this theater features a live singer. Yes, the stage manager does sing live! The show finally closed in early January 2003 as the last part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the resort to fade away...

Fans der Show können sich auf eine Überraschung freuen, wenn Sie die CD "L'Album Anniversaire - 10 Disneyland Paris" (EDDA018-2) erwerben. Diese enthällt nämlich einen Track mit dem Bamen "Disney Classics, the Music and the Magic" (3:26) aus dem Soundtrack der gleichnamigen Show, aus der wiederum einiges Material für Minnie's Birthday Surprise übernommen wurde - einschließlich dem Soundtrack Segment beginnend mit der "Cruella de Vil"-Nummer, über "The Bare Necessities", "Hakuna Matata" und bis zu "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" (jetzt in der  Band-Darbietung). Präsentiert werden die Songs in frischem, modernem Stil mit starkem Beat. Dank der Erstveröffentlichung dieses Soundtracks auf CD kann man jetzt endlich auch zu Hause die Party mit den völlig neuen Versionen der Hits aus den Disney Klassikern fortsetzen! Und natürlich ist auch der während der letzten Verbeugungen gespielte Geburtstagssong auf dieser CD zu finden.

Auch wenn Minnie's Birthday Surprise mehr als nur ein Feigenblatt von einer alten Hitproduktion des Videopolis ausleiht, gibt es dennoch ein Novum zu feiern: erstmals wird in einer neuen Show im Videopolis ein Live-Sänger eingesetzt - genau, der Stage Manager ist gemeint. Anfang Januar 2003 allerdings fiel dann der letzte Vorhang für die Show und damit das letzte Element des Programms zum 10. Geburtstags des Resorts...
