A wild Celebration

 This spring the wild animals from the African savannah are stampeding through the Disneyland Park - but no need to be afraid, this is a fun filled party stamped inviting all guests to join the celebrations centering around Pride Rock, visible already from Town Square. The famous bright rock formation stands among the lush green of Central Plaza and is surrounded by what looks like a whole flog of huge wild animals. Even before this vista opens to guests Simba and his friends greet them in new murals and decorations from the Main Street Railroad Station.

But it is easy to get diverted on the walk up the Main Street to this icon taken straight from the animated classic, especially for fans of Disney's Lion King as the Bixby Brothers once again joined the celebrations by totaly redecorating their small shop at the far end of the Emporium - at this occassion certainly with the Lion King, or as he is called in French Le Rio Lion, as its new theme. Amid a spectacular decoration with stone reliefs and huge character figures, African tribal patterns and several curious giraffes stretching their neck out of a the bush that has grown around the shop's luster the fan will find every kind of merchandise he can think of in connection with the Lion King, certainly including cute young Simba plushs. To actually get a good view of the detailed decorations in the rather small shop (which is worth a visit even if no shopping is planned) visit it during the morning hours as the shops are rather crowded in late afternoon from as soon as guests line up for the Disney Princess Parade all the time to park closure. But till then there is still plenty of time left...

So after the short diversion into Bixby Brothers it's back to the straight path leading to Pride Rock. But there is one more diversion calling at the upper end of the Main Street... next to the out-door seating area of Casey's Corner some adventurer has parked his jeep in a hurry and deserted it - maybe because a whole elephant has squeezed himself in there? This is the place to meet Mickey and Minnie during the Lion King Carnival, for which they have donned special safari costumes. But Pride Rock is still calling, so once once on Central Plaza the guest needs to turn to the left to get to the front of the huge Pride Rock that is raditating the warm feeling of the hot savannah even on a cloudy day thanks to its bright colors. The three giant ostriches seated at the rear of the rock whipping with their heads in the wind seem to be in a middle of a curious conversation over all those humans approaching Pride Rock from its back. As ornate iron gates keep guests from getting to near to the rock or even climbing on it or the huge Audio Animatronic animals surrounding it, they need to walk around the lush green plantings of Central Plaza that recreate some miniature feeling of the Pride Lands. But then the view opens onto Pride Rock in all its glory as it is facing toward Adventureland. Flanked by two high towering giraffes, elephants, a zebra and a rhinoceros Pride Rock is the location to meet the three vicious Hyenas from the movie as well as the movie's prime comedian Timon several times daily to get one of their precious autographs or make the perfect souvenir photo. Unfortunately Zazu is not available for any conversations as he is desperately trying to regain the control over the large walking bird on which's back he is riding...

... and that only minutes before the central ceremony is about to begin! This can't be true, he, Zazu, must be on his position for this! But the African music already starts and the cavalcade of African dancers and animals from the savannah approaches Pride Rock coming from Adventureland - see, there are Rafiki, who leads the crowd, and Timon too! Once the cast has positioned itself Rafiki climbs Pride Rock to present the real(!) young lion cub Simba to its people and the guest during the Circle of Life Celebration for which even the huge animals surrounding Pride Rock all day come alive as the famous music from the animated classic rises higher and higher performed by four live singers and exotic dances entice every guest to join the celebration.

After this spectacular ceremony which allows every guest to marvel at the display of the dancers and the fantastic costrumes of the animals or to join the celebration, why not follow the parade of the cast into Adventureland? With a little bit of luck it might even be possible to catch another view of the cute lion cub carried by his trainer before the exotic parade exits the park behind Cafe Agrabah (just don't forget to stay behind the ropes - for the safety and well being of the lion cub). Also it is only a few steps from there to the Hakuna Matata Restaurant, where guests are treated to some flavours of the African kitchen thanks to menu featuring all new treats. Enjoy your meal, guaranteed to be free of any of the crawling specialties Timon and Pumbaa might prefer, in the Place Pumba or on the Terrasse Timon of this huge African tribal house complete with African craft pieces and wall paintings featuring Pumba and Timon. The lunch in this African setting then should give you enough energy to discover the wonders of the Disneyland Park for the remainder of the day. When passing by Pride Rock again later, look out (or: listen out) - with a bit of luck the ancient Tam Tams from Adventureland our out on the rock and teach guests their special dance to the exotic drum beats...

Don't leave to early, because once the sun has set Disneyland prepares for the final highlight of the day: Simba's FireROARworks. Set to the world famous Circle of Life song from the animated classic the famous story of Disney's Lion King is brought alive in a unique mixture of projections onto the castle behind the illuminated Pride Rock and fireworks illuminating the sky. Sure a spectacular not to be missed. But even after the Simba's roar and the bright colors in the sky have faded away again, the celebration can continue in style - in the Disney Village with its own Carnival celebration in the streets between February 16 and 21 plus a special Lucky Dance Party on the 24th, or in the Disney Hotels, where not only characters from Disney's Lion King visit regularly during the festival, but the youngest guests can also join some fitting interactive entertainment ranging from animal-make-up to fun lessons in which they create their very own arts and crafts peices in African tradition.

So join the animals of the savannah with a mighty roar of your own, welcome lion cub Simba to Pride Rock in a thrilling ceremony full of dance, fun and crazy animals, meet Timon and the Hyenas, dance to the beats of the African drums and experience a retelling of the Lion King story high up in the night sky above Pride Rock as it was never told before - in pure light. This festival is truely a wild party for the whole family!

 

Allerdings ist es leicht, auf dem Weg die Main Street hinauf abgelenkt zu werden, besonders für Fans von Disney's König der Löwen, haben die Bixby Brothers sich doch erneut den Feierlichkeiten angeschlossen und ihren kleinen Laden am oberen Ende des Emporiums ganz im Zeichen des Löwenkönigs, oder wie er im Französischen heißt "Le Roi Lion", dekoriert. Inmitten der spektakulären Deko mit Steinreliefs, großen Charakter-Figuren, afrikanischen Folkloremustern und einer Reihe Giraffen, die ihre langen Hälse aus einem Gebüsch strecken, dass den Lüster im Zentrum des Ladens umgibt, findet sich alles was ein Fan des Zeichentrickklassikers suchen könnte, natürlich auch der niedliche junge Simba als Plüschtier. Um einen wirklich guten Blick auf die Dekorationen werfen zu können (auf jeden Fall einen Besuch des kleinen Ladens wert auch wenn keine Einkäufe geplant sind), empfiehlt es sich den Shop am Morgen aufzusuchen, da er ab dem Nachmittag, wenn die Gäste auf die Disney Princess Parade warten, bis zur Parkschließung sehr gut besucht ist. Bis dahin ist es aber noch lange hin...

Nach einem kleinen Umweg zu den Bixby Brothers heißt es aber zurück auf den direkten Weg zum Königsfelsen - allerdings wartet noch eine weitere Ablenkung am oberen Ende der Main Street... direkt gegenüber der Terrasse von Casey's Corner hat ein Abenteurer in aller Hast seinen Jeep geparkt und ist geflohen - vielleicht weil sich ein ganzer Elephant hineingezwängt hat? Vor dieser amüsanten Kulisse kann man nun Mickey und Minnie in ihren neuen Safari-Kostümen für ein Erinnerungsphoto treffen. Doch noch immer wartet der Königsfelsen auf den Besuch, also zurück zur Central Plaza, auf der es direkt nach links geht, um zur Front des Königsfelsen zu gelangen, der selbst an kalten, bewölkten Tagen mit seinen warmen Farben die Atmosphäre der Savanne verbreitet. Die drei riesigen Vogel Strauß mit ihrem im Wind wippenden Köpfen scheinen in ein Gespräch vertieft zu sein, doch leider kann man sie nicht hören, halten doch kunstvoll Tore die Gäste in sicherem Abstand vom Felsen, damit sie ihn nicht beklettern können. So heißt es rund um die saftigen grünen Hügel ziehen, die die Stimmung der Pride Lands auferstehen lassen, bis sich der Felsen in all seinem Glanz zeigt, wie er sich in Richtung Adventureland streckt. Flankiert von zwei hoch aufragenden Giraffen, Elephanten, einem Zebra und einem Nashorn ist der Königsfelsen der Ort um die drei verschlagenen Hyänen oder den Komödianten des Films, Timon, mehrmals täglich zu treffen und ein Photo oder Autorgramm zu ergattern. Zazu steht allerdings nicht zur Verfügung, da er gerade verzweifelt versucht den großen Laufvogel zu bändigen, auf dessen Rücken er reitet...

... und das nur Minuten bevor die zentrale Zeremonie beginnen soll! Das kann nicht war sein, er, Zazu, muss doch auf seiner Position sein für diesen wichtigen Moment! Doch schon erklingt die afrikanische Musik und der Zug afrikanischer Tänzer und Tiere der Savanne setzt sich in Adventureland in Bewegung - zwischen ihnen auch Timon und Rafiki, der alles anführt. Nachdem Rafiki den Königsfelsen erklommen hat und das ganze Ensemble bereit ist, präsentiert er das echte(!) Löwenbaby Simba seinen Untertanen und den Gästen der Circle of Life Celebration. Selbst die riesigen Tiere, die den ganzen Tag den Königsfelsen umgeben, erwachen dabei zum Leben und die berühmte Musik aus dem Film live dargeboten von vier Sängern erfüllt die Luft über der Central Plaza, während exotische Tänze die Gäste einladen, sich der Feier anzuschließen.

Nach der beeindruckenden Zeremonie, bei der der Gast ob der Darbietung der Tänzer ebenso wie ob der beeindruckenden Kostüme der Tänzer und der Tiere in Staunen verfallen kann oder sich der Feier einfach anschließt, bietet sich die Chance, sich der Prozession zurück in das Adventureland anzuschließen. Mit etwas Glück lässt sich so auch noch ein weiterer Blick auf das niedliche Löwenbaby erhaschen, bevor die Parade hinter dem Cafe Agrabah verschwindet (dabei gilt allerdings: zur eignen Sicherheit und der des Löwenbabies bitte hinter den Absperrungen bleiben!). Von dort sind es auch nur noch wenige Schritt zum Hakuna Matata Restaurant, wo der Gast dank einer neuen Speisekarte mit neuen Optionen die afrikanische Küche kennen lernen kann - garantiert ganz ohne die krabbelnden Delikatessen die Timon und Pumba bevorzugen würden, nach denen die Sitzbereiche Place Pumba und Terrasse Timon des Restaurants benannt wurden. Nach der Stärkung in der afrikanischen Atmosphäre komplett mit amüsanten Wandgemälden von Timon und Pumba, warten dann weitere aufregende Abenteuer im ganzen Disneyland Park auf die Gäste. Wer dabei nochmals in die Nähe des Königsfelsens kommt, sollte nachsehen (oder hinhören), ob mit etwas Glück gerade die Tam Tams aus dem Adventureland am Felsen den Gästen das Tanzen zu den exotischen Klängen der Trommeln beibringen...

Auf jeden Fall sollte man den Tag im Park nicht zu früh beenden, denn wenn die Sonne untergegangen ist, bereitet sich Disneyland auf den letzten Höhepunkt vor: Simba's FeuAAARRRHwerk. Zum weltberühmten Song Der Ewige Kreis (Circle of Life) wird die Geschichte des Königs der Löwen mit Projektionen auf das Schloss hinter dem illuminierten Königsfelsen und mit Feuerwerk im Himmel zu neuem Leben erweckt. Ein Spektakel, das man nicht verpassen sollte. Doch selbst wenn Simbas Gebrüll verklungen und die Farben am Himmel verblasst sind, kann die Feier weitergehen - im Disney Village, das vom 16. bis 21. Februar seinen eigenen Karneval in den Strassen feiert, sowie am 24. mit der Special Carnival Lucky Dance Party, oder in den Disney Hotels. Dort machen nicht nur regelmäßig Charaktere aus Disney's König der Löwen den Gästen ihre Aufwartung, sondern den jüngsten wird auch ein interaktives Unterhaltungsprogramm geboten mit Schminken und Bastelstunden in afrikanischer Tradition.

Also feiern Sie mit den Tieren der Savanne und lassen Sie Ihr eigenes Gebrüll erklingen, wenn das Löwenbaby Simba in einer aufregenden Zeremonie voller Tanz, Gesang, Spaß und verrückter Tiere auf dem Königsfelsen präsentiert wird, treffen Sie Timon und die Hyäenen, tanzen Sie zum Rhythmus der afrikanischen Trommeln und erleben sie, wie die Geschichte des Königs der Löwen im Nachthimmel über dem Felsen zu neuem Leben erwacht, wie nie zuvor - in reinem Licht. Dieses Festival ist wirklich eine wilde Party für die ganze Familie!

Practical Information

The Lion King Carnival in 2004 lasts a full month, from February 7th till March 7th with up to five daily performances of the Circle of Life Celebration, several meet'n'greet opportunities with Timon and the Hyenas around Pride Rock and Mickey and Minnie in their safari gear near Casey's Corner or near Colonel Hathi's plus performances of the Enchanted Tam Tams on Pride Rock every day. There are also nightly performances of Simba's FiROARworks over Pride Rock / the castle to end the day in Disneyland. The entertainment offerings in the Disney Hotels may be restricted to selected days. The Disney Village celebrates Carnival in general from the 16th to 21st of February daily from 3.30 to 5.30 pm with numerous street acts and on the 24th at 8.30 pm with a special Lucky Dance Carnival Party.

Der König der Löwen Karneval 2004 wird einen ganzen Monat lang gefeiert, vom 7. Februar bis 7. März samt bis zu fünf täglichen Circle of Life Zeremonien, täglich verschiedenen Gelegenheiten Timon und die drei Hyäenen am Königsfelsen, oder Mickey und Minnie in ihren Safarikostümen nahe Casey's Corner oder Colonel Hathi's zu treffen und den verzauberten Tam Tams am Königsfelsen zu lauschen, bevor der Tag im Disneyland allabendlich mit Simba's FeuAAARRRHwerk über dem Königsfelsen / Schloss zum Abschluss kommt. Das Entertainment Programm in den Disney Hotels kann auf bestimmte Tage beschränkt sein. Das Disney Village feiert Karneval allgemein vom 16. bis 21. Februar täglich von 15.30 bis 17.30 mit verschiedenen Straßenkünstlern, sowie am 24. ab 20.30 mit einer speziellen Lucky Dance Carnival Party.
