Simba the young lion cub who will one day become the new lion king, is the center of the Circle of Life ceremony conducted by Rafiki. Accompanied by the animals of the savannah represented by dancers in new fantastic costumes and African tribesmen he invites the guests to join this festive celebration in a breathtaking ceremony sweeping everyone along in a whirlwind of music, song and dance.

But how are the animals of the savannah supposed to know that it is time to welcome their future king? The four ambassadors of african tribes (the live singers of the ceremony), among them a prince and his princess, in their colorful african costumes placing themselfes on the rockwork around Pride Rock facing to all sides of the Central Plaza are happy to explain this: the guests need to call the animals! In the usual mix of French and English (that works in the dialog as well as the songs really well thanks to the live performers) they teach the guests in three segments of the Central Plaza different animal calls: a lion's roar, an elephant's trumpeting and a giraffe's call. Once all call out together a deafining roar fills the air...

... and is answered by the famous Circle of Life theme rising from the distance as fire jugglers lead the animals and people of Africa to Pride Rock. In a sheer endless parade the cast of the savannah arrives - lead by the steady elephants, clumsy hippopotamus', high towering giraffes, elegant zebras, swaying ostriches, playful leopards and in between again and again african dancers in fantastic costumes of the tribes of the four ambassadors already on Pride Rock. Certainly the ceremonial master of the savannah Rafiki is in the huge crowd of nearly 70 performers, as well as Timon who never ever misses any kind of celebration.

To the rousing Circle of Life mixed with the sounds of the savannah everyone is staking out his spot to get a good view of the Pride Rock where soon the future king should be presented. While the prancing zebras and the playfull leopards mix with the dancers all around Central Plaza on the streets, the larger animals get up close to Pride Rock, surrounding it right in the center of Central Plaza. With all the trumpeting and hoof clanging Timon soon looses his nerves and calls out for silence - to his very own surprise with success. Just don't think he did this to enjoy the view onto the gigantic animals, he just wanted everyone to listen as he starts his solo rendition of Hakuna Matata, which is accompanied by a frenzy dance by the dancers in their detailrich african costumes as well as by the animals.

Each of the animals is brought alive by at least one dancer in a outstanding costume combining obvious "costume"-elements - as shapes are created by huge stitches - with elaborate, smiling faces and realistic forms creating make believe atmosphere cartering to guests of all ages with its unique combination of the animated feature look and the special needs of the theatrical, three-dimensional presentation with it needs. Once the animals enter the park and start dancing along the music each in its very own style fitting its character the world of make beliefe is perfect...

By now it is time for the highlight of the 25 minute ceremony: Rafiki climbes the majestic Pride Rock set up where he is awaited by the ambassadors for the presentation of the Simba, whom he suddenly has in his hands and holds out high into the air on Pride Rock - and Simba is not just a puppet, as he curls in the hands of Rafiki and looks out over the fast assembly of animals that bow deep and welcome the future king with their booming animal voices while birds circel over their heads it is clear a life lion cub!!
To his honor the whole cast erupts into a lengthy Celebration Finale featuring a live performed medley of the five hit songs from the animated classic - Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Be Prepared, I Just Can't Wait To Be King and Circle of Life - and joyfull dancing and prancing all around Central Plaza in a breathtaking showcasing of african joy of life that flows out into Adventureland, as the dancers lead the whole cast back off Central Plaza, with the characters, the african ambassadors and the lion cub carried by his trainer closing the parade.

The show is a unique mixture of the exotic performance by the huge African cast in its breathtaking costumes combining the natural look, theatrical hand work and the feeling of the animated classic - pushed ahead by Timon over eager as always to step into the limelight - the great, symphonic music from the animated classic performed live by four outstanding singers with Broadway-quality and the impressive setting that is a piece of art itself. This combination of exotic elements with the visions of Disney creates a whole new world which guests are happily entering only minutes into the ceremony.
Certainly the live lion club Simba presented by Rafiki makes this show even more attractive for guests of all ages but even besides this the show already appeals to all guests thanks to its clever combination of different elements and the fact that is brought alive here not in a clean cut rubberhead way but with a more natural style - so: when are You joining this Circle of Life?

Simba, das Löwenjunge das einst der neue König der Löwen sein wird, steht im Mittelpunkt der Circle of Life Zeremonie, die Rafiki durchführt. Begleitet von den Tieren der Savanne, dargestellt von Castmembers in fantastischen neuen Kostümen, und afrikanischen Tänzern lädt er die Gäste ein, sich den Feiern anzuschließen mit ihrer atemberaubenden, mitreißenden Zeremonie und dem Wirbelwind aus Musik, Tanz und Gesang.

Aber wie sollen die Tiere der Savanne wissen, dass es Zeit ist, ihren zukünftigen König willkommen zu heißen? Vier Botschafter afrikanischer Stämme (die Livesänger), darunter ein Prinz und eine Prinzessin, in farbenprächtigen Kostümen platzieren sich so, dass sie in alle Richtungen der Central Plaza blicken können, und erklären: die Gäste müssen die Tiere rufen! Im bekannten Mix aus Französisch und Englisch (der dank der Livedarsteller im Dialog wie auch in den Songs sehr gut funktioniert) bringen sie den Gästen in drei Segmenten der Central Plaza verschiedene Rufe der Tierwelt bei: das Brüllen der Löwen, das Trompeten der Elephanten und den Ruf der Giraffen. Wenn dann alle zusammen erklingen, ist die Luft erfüllt einem ohrenbetäubenden Gebrüll... 

... das beantwortet wird mit dem berühmten Circle of Life Thema, das aus der Ferne langsam anschwillt, als die Feuerjongleure die Tiere und Völker Afrikas zum Königsfelsen führen. In einer schier endlosen Parade trifft das Ensemble der Savanne ein - kräftige Elephanten, träge Nilpferde, stolze Giraffen, elegante Zebras, eine Herde schwankender Vogel Strauß, verspielte Leoparden und dazwischen immer wieder afrikanische Tänzer in aufwendigen Kostümen. Natürlich fehlt auch der Zeremonienmeister der Savanne, Rafiki, nicht und auch Timon hat sich den nahezu 70 Darstellern angeschlossen.

Zu dem immer weiter aufstrebenden Circle of Life vermischt wird den Geräuschen der Savanne sucht sich jedes der Tiere nun seinen Platz, um einen guten Blick auf den Königsfelsen zu haben. Während die tänzelnden Zebras und die Leoparden sich wie die afrikanischen Tänzer rund um die Central Plaza auf den Straßen verteilen, umringen die größeren Tiere den Königsfelsen so nah wie möglich. Das Stampfen, Schnaufen und Brüllen dabei scheint Timon aber gar nicht zu gefallen - wie soll man denn da sein großes Solo hören können? Also sorgt er kurzerhand für Ruhe... und schon get es lost mit seiner Darbietung von Hakuna Matata, der sich die Tiere und die Tänzer in einer exotischen Choreographie anschließen.

Jedes der Tiere wird von wenigstens einem Tänzer zum Leben erweckt - dank einmaliger Kostüme die offensichtliche "Kostüm"-Elemente (wie grobe Nähte mit großen Stichen) mit aufwendig modelierten, lachenden Gesichtern und realistischen Formen kombinieren und eine fantastische Atmosphäre erschaffen, die Gäste jeden Alters anspricht, gerade wegen der Mischung der optischen Elemente des Zeichentrickfilms mit den Anforderungen einer drei-dimensionalen Show. Sowie die Tiere den Park betreten und jedes in seinem ganz eigenen Stil, passend zu seinem Charakter, in die Choreographie einfallen, ist die Illusion perfekt...

Doch nun ist es endlich Zeit für den Höhepunkt der 25-minütigen Zeremonie: Rafiki erklimmt den majestätischen Königsfelsen, wo er bereits von den Botschaftern erwartet wird, um Simba zu präsentieren, den er plötzlich in seinen Händen hält und weit in den Himmel streckt, so dass alle ihn auch gut sehen mögen - und wie er sich so leicht zusammenrollt in Rafikis Händen und über die versammelten Menschen und Tiere blickt, die sich tief vor ihrem zukünftigen König verbeugen und ihn lauthals begrüßen, während über ihren Köpfen Vögel kreisen, wird deutlich: das ist ein echtes Löwenbaby!!
Zu seinen Ehren explodiert das gesamte Ensemble förmlich in einem aufwendigen Celebration Finale samt einem live gesungenen Medley der fünf größten Hits des Zeichentrick-Klassikers - Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Be Prepared, I Just Can't Wait To Be King and Circle of Life - samt freudigem Tanzen und stolzieren auf der gesamten Central Plaza. Die mitreißende Darbietung afrikanischer Lebensfreude fließt dann auch in das Adventureland, sowie die Tänzer das Ensemble in einer kurzen Parade dorthin zurückführen. Den Abschluss der Gruppe bilden dabei die Charaktere, die vier Botschafter und natürlich das Löwenbaby getragen von seinem Betreuer.

Die Show ist eine einmalige Mischung der exotischen Lifedarbietung des großen afrikanischen Casts in beeindruckenden Kostümen, die perfekt ein natürliches Aussehen, Theaterhandwerk und die Optik des Zeichentrickfilms kombinieren, vorangetrieben von Timon - der wie immer selbst im Mittelpunkt stehen will - der einmaligen, beliebten symphonischen Musik sowie der live Darbietung der vier herausragenden Sänger auf Broadway-Niveau und der aufwendigen Bühne, die selbst schon ein Kunstwerk ist. Diese Mischung exotischer Elemente mit den Visionen Disneys lässt eine neue Welt entstehen, in die sich die Gäste schon wenige Minuten nach Beginn der Zeremonie entführt sehen. Natürlich trägt auch die Tatsache, dass es sich bei Simba um ein echtes Löwenbaby handelt, deutlich zu der Attraktivität der Show bei. Doch diese spricht ohnehin schon Gäste jeden Alters an eben dank der geschickten Mischung unterschiedlichster Elemente und der Tatsache, dass hier der Zeichentrickfilm nicht im klar umrissenen Stil der normalen Disney-Charaktere in den Parks zum Leben erweckt wird, sondern mit einem natürlicheren Look - also: wann schließen Sie sich diesem Ewigen Kreis an?

 The Circle of Life Celebration consists of a parade and a show segment. The whole cast of the celebration enters Adventureland behind Cafe Agrabah and then parades toward Pride Rock, where the main part of the celebration takes place on the rock itself, on the surrounding stage and on the ground segment of Central Plaza between the Pride Rock and walkway leading to the Adventureland Bazaar. After this major show segment the cast leaves again on the same parade route.

But as the parade is just a necessity due to the location of the Pride Rock on Central Plaza for the true experience secure a spot on Central Plaza. As the actual Pride Rock is aligned facing toward the entrance of Adventureland, some of the performance also takes place right in front of it on Central Plaza and the cast is moving in and out via the walkway toward the Bazaar the best viewing spots are on Central Plaza between the walkway leading toward Adventureland Bazaar and the bridge leading into the castle, or right next to the walkway leading to the Bazaar. If you arrive late for the celebration you might still get a decent viewing spot on the castle-bridge.

For a prime close up view of the lion cub try to move into a spot along the parade route (were for security reasons and for reasons of the well being of the life lion cub are not allowed to step out of the roped off areas as secured by numerous cast members). As the walkway gets a bit narrower toward the actual Adventureland Bazaar this is the best area for lion spotting and close encounters with all the fabulous animals from the show. But keep in mind: Simba is only presented in the parade after the ceremony - on the way to the ceremony he is carried more or less hidden in a basket by the lion tamer. So enjoy the ceremony on Central Plaza first and then move to a "lion watching spot".

 With up to five performances of the Circle of Life Celebration daily special care needed to be given to the well being of the real life lion cub presented during the celebration. Therefor the lion tamer / animal trainer who presents the cub to the

The breathtaking music of the show presents new arrangements of the score and the famous songs from the animated classic by Elton John and Hans Zimmer. It has been culled from various Lion King shows from Disney theme parks worldwide - without any obvious brakes forming a new complete entity. The majority stems from the Festival of the Lion King as presented at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, from which also some of the core elements of the show have been taken, e.g. the concept of four live singers who train their segment of the audience the call of a certain animal. But it needs to be pointed out that the look of the show, from the Pride Rock set all the way to the costumes of the animals is absolutely unique and was never done in similar style in any Disney theme park before.
A recording of the show from Animal Kingdom has been released on CD available in Walt Disney World and through their mail order service exclusively. This recording includes the sometimes gospel-like renditions of the songs as also interpreted live during the show in Paris and the "Celebration Finale" that underscores the highlight of the Paris show. Certainly the CD includes only renditions in English, while in Paris the usually round mixture of French and English is used. Just as in Walt Disney World the music in Paris presented with outstanding colored live singers transports the guest into the african world adding even more african elements to it than in the movie while keeping its catchy toe-tapping quality.

Two finale notes for all historians: the huge Pride Rock stage with large animals around and all over it is a first as never before Audio Animatronics were installed on Central Plaza. And: some of the costumes of the african dancers are actually reused from Disney's ImagiNations Parade.

Die atemberaubende Musik der Show präsentiert die bekannten Songs und den Score des Zeichentrickklassikers von Elton John und Hans Zimmer in neuen Arrangements, die von diversen Lion King Shows in Disney Themenparks weltweit stammen - dabei aber nun eine starke Einheit ohne Bruch formen. Der Großteil stammt aus dem Festival of the Lion King aus Disney's Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, von dem auch einige Elemente der Show übernommen wurden, wie das Konzept der vier Sänger, die jeweils einem Segment des Publikums den Ruf eines bestimmten Tieres beibringen. Die optische Seite der Show, vom Königsfelsen bis hin zu den Kostümen der Tiere, ist allerdings vollständig neu und wurde so noch in keinem Disney Themenpark präsentiert.
Eine Aufnahme der Show aus dem Animal Kingdom ist übrigens auf CD in Walt Disney World und durch den dortigen Mail Order Service exklusiv erhältlich. Enthalten darauf sind auch die teilweise an Gospel angelehnten Aufnahmen der Songs, wie sie auch in Paris live dargeboten werden, und das "Celebration Finale", das während des Höhepunkts der Show in Paris erklingt. Natürlich bietet die CD nur Aufnahmen in Englisch, während in Paris der gewohnt runde Mix aus Französisch und Englisch dargeboten wird. Wie schon in Walt Disney World werden die Songs in Paris von herausragenden farbigen Sängern live interpretiert, die die Gäste nach Afrika entführen - auch da die Musik noch mit weiteren afrikanischen Elementen angereichert wurde, ohne ihre eingängie Qualität zu verlieren.

Zwei letzte Anmerkungen für Historiker: mit der großen Königsfelsen Bühne samt den Tieren rund um sie ist die erste Installation von Audio Animatronics auf der Central Plaza. Und: einige der Kostüme der afrikanischen Tänzer stammen ursprünglich aus Disney's ImagiNations Parade.
