 The magic of Disney is universal - Mickey and his friends are known anywhere in the world. So who should be better suited to bring the world a little bit closer?

With Disney's ImagiNations Parade DLP is taking it's guests on a short, splendid journey around the world - to the sights and wonders of 6 continents presented by beloved Disney characters, showing how small the world is and giving people from all over the world the opportunity to celebrate a together - daily at Disneyland Paris!

Premiering as one of the main events of the Millennium Celebration at Disneyland Paris on the 31st of December 1999 it is since capturing the imagination of the guests with a unique combination of 7 gigantic floats, countless dancers, some smaller floats and a more than just catchy themesong. And gigantic are these floats ... towering up to 12 meters high (as high as the tallest buildings of the Main Street U.S.A.) they are the hightes floats ever build for a Disney themepark, in fact so high that the arch at the entrance of Fantasyland had to be removed to let the floats pass along the parade route.

The parade opens to the upbeat sounds of it's themesong that invites the guests from all over the world to celebrate and join their hands on this joyfull journey - "All Around the World" is the third up-beat themesong by Vasile Sirli (music) and Jay Smith (lyrics) which just proofs irresistible. First performed by the wonderful clear and sound voice of the young Tatiana Hancheroff and later by a male singer with a large background chorus the song is played in a loop during the whole parade.

But still it is only the (much appreciated) background to the happening on the streets ... which starts with some dancers accompanying Minnie, Chip'n Dale, Daisy, Donald, Goofy and Pluto who are all adorned in a special costume symbolizing the continent they present further down in the parade. Right behind them Mickey is taking as on the journey presiding in his balloon high up above the audience.

The first stop is Asia - and as all of the following six continents / sections in the parade it is opened by the Miss of the continent, in this case Miss Asia, in a wonderful, elaborate gown which in fact is a little, detailed float from which she greets the guests and heads a group of dancers sporting the most different collection of costumes ever seen at DLP, some of them pushing and pulling some additional small floats. But all eyes first flush to the gigantic float in the middle of the dancer: towering 12 meters tall is there a Disney-character adorned in a special costume which is created by weaving the best known symbols, icons and buildings of the continent into a gigantic dress. Minnie herself adorned with the Chinese Wall is featured for Asia.

As the parade moves on it leads the guests to Africa - where among the tribal dancers and wild animals the float features not one but two characters: Chip'n Dale. One as a stone monument in pharao-style one as a african tribal hunter. As the other 6 floats there are so many details hidden in the gigantic float, that it offers new views each and every time, no matter whether one looks to it's top or bottom, as a lively 3-dimensional mural is covering every inch.

Daisy on a surf board is representing Oceania depicted just as she wanted to let a white dove fly into the sky with some flowers... Her Donald is busy partying in South Africa crowned with flowers and fruits riding on a lama, while Goofy on rollerblades as Mister Liberty seem to rush through North America below skyscrapers and past indians and film crews. Pluto sitting in an italian gondola from venezia as the last major character in the parade is heading Europe complete with Big Ben and Eiffel Tower, windmill and...

While each of the 7 floats, that are not just gigantic but also feature countless lovingly recreated details based on the cultures of the continents, is an optical highlight that nearly can't be fully enjoyed watching it only once, the dancers in their colorful costumes with their small floates are giving the parade it's heart. As the large floats don't have any moving or changing elements it's the dance and the play of the castmembers that give the parade it's life. Thanks to their dedication with which they present the basic choreography and approach guests along the streets the parade gets so entertaining and feels so warm.

Certainly each of the floats is a highlight on it's own, but the dancers and the choreography make it more than worthwile to take the eyes of the floats, approaching around the next corner or moving out of sight behind it and onto their performance right in front. The applause and the laughter show how much they succeed in bringing an upbeat atmosphere to the guests, that are clapping and humming along with the themesong, before gasping at the next float.

While the youngest guests will marvel at the sight of their Disney friends in gigantic sights older guests will appreciate the details of the floats - but all will join together for the celebration, which is brought up by this parade as never before by any parade at DLP.

 Die Magie von Disney ist universell - Mickey und seine Freunde kennt man weltweit. Wer also sollte besser geeignet sein, die Welt ein bisschen kleiner werden zu lassen?

Mit Disney's ImagiNations Parade entführt DLP seine Gäste auf eine kurze aber prächtige Reise rund um die Welt - zu den Wundern und Sehenswürdigkeiten von 6 Kontinenten präsentiert von beliebten Disney Figuren, die zeigen, wie klein die Welt doch ist und die alle Völker zu einer gemeinsamen Feier einladen - täglich im Disneyland Paris!

Premiere feierte die Parade als einer der Höhepunkte der Millennium Feierlichkeiten im Disneyland Paris am 31. Dezember 1999 und verzaubert seit dem ihr Publikum mit einer einmaligen Kombination aus 7 gigantischen Motivwagen, zahlreichen Tänzern, einigen kleineren Wagen und einem mehr als nur eingängigen Titelsong. Und gigantisch sind die Wagen wirklich, ragen sie doch 12 Meter hoch (und damit so hoch wie die höchsten Gebäude der Main Street U.S.A.), sind damit die höchsten jemals für einen Disney Themenpark gebauten Motivwagen. So mußte auch der Torbogen am Eingang zum Fantasyland entfernt werden, um eine ungehnderte Passage der Wagen zu ermöglichen.

Die Parade wird von den fröhlichen Klängen ihres Titelsongs eröffnet, der die Gäste einlädt überall auf der Welt gemeinsam zu feiern und sich die Hände zu reichen in einer friedlichen Reise - "All Around the World" ist der dritte schwungvolle Titelsong von Vasile Sirli (Musik) und Jay Smith (Text), der sich als unwiderstehlich erweist. Anfangs von Tatiana Hancheroff mit ihrer klaren, reinen Stimme interpretiert ist er im weiteren Verlauf noch von einem Sänger mit großem Backgroundchor aufgenommen zu hören, bevor sich der Soundtrack wiederholt.

Doch ist er nur die (wenn auch herausragende) Untermalung für das Geschehen auf der Paraderoute ... das eröffnet wird von einer Gruppe Tänzer in Begleitung von Minnie, A- und B-Hörnchen, Daisy, Donald, Goofy und Pluto, die alle ihr spezielles Kostüm tragen, das den von ihnen vertretenen Kontinent symbolisiert. Direkt hinter ihnen winkt Micky aus der Gondel seines Luftschiffes hoch über den Gästen, mit dem er uns auf eine Reise rund um die Welt mitnimmt...

Der erste Stop ist Asien - und wie alle folgenden Kontinente / Sektionen der Parade erscheint zu erst die Schönheitsköniging des Kontinents, hier Miss Asia, in einem zauberhaften, fein gearbeiteten Kleid, das in Wirklichkeit ein massiver kleiner Wagen ist, von dem aus sie die Gäste begrüßt und die Tänzer anführt, die in der wohl variantenreichsten Kostümauswahl, die je in DLP zu sehen war, antritt. Einige der Tänzer schieben oder ziehen zudem noch weitere kleinere Wagen. Doch alle Augen richten sich schnell auf den gigantischen Motivwagen in Mitten der Tänzer: 12 Meter hoch zeigt sich hier ein Disney-Character in einem einmaligen Kostüm bestehen duas den bekanntesten Symbolen, Ikonen und Bauwerken des Kontinents. So präsentiert sich Minnie gewandet unter anderem in die Chinesische Mauer für Asien.

Im weiteren Verlauf der Parade führt die Reise nach Afrika - inmitten von Stammestänzern und wilden Tieren sind hier sogar zwei Disney-Charaktere auf dem Wagen zu entdecken: A- und B-Hörnchen. Einer als Statue im Stil der Pharaone und einer als afrikanischer Stammesjäger. Wie auch die 6 übrigen Wagen ist dieser mit unglaublich vielen Details verziert, so daß sich immer wieder neue Perspektiven und Eindrücke ergeben. egal ob man auf seien Spitze oder zu seinem unteren Abschluss blickt, bedeckt doch das 3-dimensionale Relief die gesamte Fläche.

Daisy auf einem Surfboard symbolisiert Ozeanien, wie sie gerade eine weiße Taube in den Himmel steigen lassen will ... während Donald in Süd Amerika kräftig am Feiern ist, geschmückt mit einem Kranz aus Blüten und tropischen Früchten auf dem Rücken eines Lama. Goofy saust derweil auf seinen Rollschuhen durch Nordamerika als Mister Liberty unter Wolkenkratzern und zwischen Indianern und Filmcrews. Den Abschluss bildet Pluto in einer italienischen Gondel aus Venedig der unverkennbar für Europa steht, zieren seinen Wagen doch Big Ben und Eiffel Turm, Windmühle und ...

Jeder der 7 Motivwagen stellt einen Höhepunkt der Parade dar, sind sie doch nicht nur gigantisch in ihren Ausmaßen, sondern auch liebevoll ausgestaltet - es zieren sie so zahllose Details der Kontinente, daß sie kaum bei einem Auftritt im Rahmen der Parade alle erfasst werden können.
Doch das Herz der Parade sind die Tänzer in ihren farbenfrohen Kostümen. Gerade da die Wagen absolut statisch sind, hauchen sie der Parade erst das Leben ein. Dank ihres Engagements mit dem sie die Choreographie darbieten und auf die Gäste entlang des Wegen zugehen, wir die Parade erst so unterhaltsam und lebendig.

Selbstverständlich ist jeder der Wagen ein Höhepunkt, doch lohnt es sich, den Blick von dem abrückenden oder erst herannahenden Wagen abzuwenden, auf die Tänzer und ihre Darbietung direkt vor einem. Der Applaus und die Stimmung zeigt, wie gut es ihnen gelingt, die muntere Atmosphäre der Parade auf die Gäste zu übertragen, die klatschend und den Titelsong mitsummenden die Straßen säumen, bis sie wieder sprachlos den nächsten Wagen bestaunen.

Während die jüngsten Gäste die schiere Größe ihrer Disney-Freunde bestaunen, werden ältere Gäste besonders die Details der Parade zu schätzen wissen - doch alle gemeinsam feiern sie die Party, die diese Parade wie noch keine vor ihr im DLP entfesselt.

 No matter where you want to watch the parade, depending on how crowded the park is, you should show up 15 to 30 minutes in advance. The only place to watch the parade while sitting is at the Castle Stage, but these seats (which are really cold in the winter) are occupied very long in advance. But what about combining a great dinner or lunch with a good view out of the warmth? Both is provided on the first floor of Walt's on the Main Street U.S.A. but Castmembers won't be able to guarantee you a window-seat in advance.

Most guests line up along the Main Street U.S.A. and Central Plaza for the unique sight of the parade with the castle as backdrop, while it is by far less crowded in Fantasyland in front of and opposite of the Pizzeria Bella Notte. There are also four points from where to get an "on the top"-view of the parade: right in front of the queuing area of It's A Small World, the balcony on top of the director's booth behind the seats of the Castle Stage, the pavilion at Town Square and finally the Main Street Station of the railroad (usually the most crowded of this four places that expecially the photographers like).

To take pictures or videos of the parade one should choose a place on the right side of the street if facing toward the parade (left sight of the street if looking in the same direction as the parade moves - this means e.g. at the centre of Central Plaza) as one is then going to see only the perfect side of the floats, while there are two quiet visible holes on the other side of the floats (they are neccessary for the crane that is used to store the floats after the performance).

 Having premiered on the 31st of December 1999 the parade was expected to run as the daily main parade at least till the end of 2001 (when it might have been replaced by an special parade to commemorate the 100th birthday of Walt Disney and the 10th birthday of Disneyland Paris). But in mid-March 2001 the parade was surprisingly canceled and replaced by it's own predecessor, the Wonderful World of Disney Parade - according to inside sources due to popular demand, as the guests missed the wider selection of Disney characters they were used to from earlier parades. So Disney's ImagiNations had it's last performance without anyone epecting in mid-March 2001.

As mentioned before the parade underwent major changes only a few months after it premiered in time for it's first summer season.

Originally it was envisioned that ImagiNations would be an interactive parade as this had been proofed to be so successful with the guests at the Wonderful World of Disney Parade. It also did fit perfectly into the theme of the parade: bringing the world closer together, sharing the love and the magic of Disney, as children from the audience would have the opportunity to join the dancers of each continent / section in a happy celebration.

So when it premiered on the 31st of December 1999 (and till mid-June) the parade started with the themesong "All Around the World" and moved down the parade route till the song had been played once. After these 4:03 minutes the parade would stop and an instrumental score for each of the seven sections would start lasting 2:03 minutes, during which the dancers presented an elaborate choreography in which young guests could participate. When the score settled down the themesong would start again and the parade would move on.

Even so not every section would stop in front of each guest he did see two or three performances at least - unfortunately this also ment, that guests further down the road would have to wait longer till the parade would reach them. The combination of the slower pace of the parade when moving and the longer stops (30 seconds longer) compared to the Wonderful World of Disney Parade did create extrem waiting times near the end of the parade route (especially as guests show up early for the parades). This in turn with some legal problems (some non-Disney-music was used in the scores, too) did bring the decision up, that the stops were removed in mid-June. As of this date the parade run without stops thereby cutting out the wonderful compositions of Vasile Sirli, too. As the repeating of the same version of the 4 minutes long themesong didn't create a backdrop as diversified as needed an updated soundtrack was installed step by step till August 2000, which was in place till the last performance and played continuously as the parade moved continuously.

This soundtrack consists of the original recording of the themesong performed by Tatiana Hancheroff, a short instrumental bridge and new remix featuring a male voice and a chorus.
Even so the cutting of the stops did take away some of the thrilling dance routines and a wonderful score, that fans of Disney music rate as a real gem, it also did help hightening the pace of the parade which is now a very entertaining journey around the world whith a themesong that really gets the audience dancing and clapping all the time long...

Available on a CD-single from DLP (EDDA012-2) is the wonderful original performance of the catchy themesong (Jay Smith / Vasile Sirli) by the young Canadian Tatiana Hancheroff (who performed it live on the stage in front of the castle on the 31st of December 1999 and the 1st of January 2000). Included is also an instrumental version of "All Around the World". The second version (officially labeled as "remix") wasn't released till 2002 on the CD "L'Album Anniversaire - 10 Disneyland Paris" (EDDA018-2), which also includes one instrumental track from the score.
Thos who want to enjoy the whole magic of the original score can do so thanks to the CD "Les Parades en Musicque" (edition 2000) (EDDA013-2) featuring the themesong as released on the single-CD and the scores of each of the 7 sections which have been retired together with the stops in mid-June 2000.

While the score for Mickey in his airship is based on three Disney tunes (The Mickey Mouse march, Zip-A-Dee-Dooh-Dah, It's A Small World) that are recognized worldwide as Disney-music, the scores for the continents have been assembled by Vasile Sirli masterly by blending instrumental versions of Disney-songs (or elements from Disney-scores) together that are somehow connected to the contintent. It is thereby interesting to note, that for Asia he used "A Friend Like Me" from Aladdin, as the story of Aladdin is connected with Asia for a large part of the French audience, but still brough "Prince Ali" from the same movie up for Africa, too. Another interesting match for Asia is also "The Bare Necessities". Africa's score, running as long as all others, is the one with the least songs combined, featuring just 4 titles from Aladdin, The Lion King and Tarzan plus an insturmental of the themesong of the parae.
Oceania proofed a problem Vasile Sirli mastered skillfuly - as here no specific Disney-material is available he combined "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" with some non-Disney-music in Hawai-style. A "trick" he also used for South America which features from Ariel.
A whole of 18(!) songs have been blended into the score for North America which combines the music from Pocahontas and Pinocchio with western traditionals and broadway songs (including New York, New York) into a fabulous medley - unfortunately it has been cut short to 1:55 for the CD for legal reasons, as not all copyright owners granted the rights in time, which deprived the medley of such songs as Bernstein's "America". But once again the work of Vasile Sirli must be praised as the medley still flows without breaks!
For the same reasons the score for the final section, Europe, has been cut short too - left is an interesting mix of classic music (Brahms and Beethoven) and Disney-material from Beauty and The beast, Mary Poppins and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

All seven scores are presented in a fast, upbeat pace performed by the Budapest Pop Orchestra playing with full verve. They feature a natural flow between the very diverse musical sources thanks to Vasile Sirli who created a musical tapestry that even without optical attraction wonderfully suceeds in taking the guest around the world.

Finally a short look backstage: the Italian company Scenotek built, among other projects for DLP, also elements of the gigantic ImagiNations floats and the smaller floats for the Misses heralding each section. On their website they offer a short glimpse into their workshops during the making of these floats...

Wie bereits erwähnt wurde die Parade wenige Monate nach der Premiere für ihre erste Sommersaison stark überarbeitet.

Ursprünglich sollte ImagiNations eine interaktive Parade sein, war dieser Effekt von den Gästen bei der Wonderful World of Disney Parade doch hervorragend angenommen worden. Im übrigen ergänze das interaktive Element das Konzept der Parade: die Welt enger zusammenrücken zu lassen, die Liebe und Magie von Disney zu teilen - indem sich die jüngeren Gäste den Tänzer jedes Kontinents / jeder Sektion bei einer fröhlichen Feier anschließen würden.

So wurde die Parade von der Premiere am 31. Dezember 1999 bis Mitte Juni mit dem Themsong "All Around the World" eröffnet, während sie sich ihren Weg durch den Park bahnte, bis der Song einmal gespielt war. Nach diesen 4:03 Minuten stoppte die Parade und ein Instrumental-Score für jede der 7 Sektionen setzte ein, der 2:03 spielte, in denen die Tänzer eine ausgefeilte Choreographie präsentierten, an der sich auch die jüngeren Gäste teilweise beteiligen konnten. Im Anschluss erklang dann wieder der Themesong und die Parade rollte weiter.

Auf diese weise stoppte zwar nicht jede Sektion vor jedem Gast, doch erlebte er 2 oder 3 Kontinente. Unglücklicherweise bedeutete das auch längere Wartezeiten für Gäste, die im weiteren Verlauf der Paraderoute warteten. Die langsamere Fortbewegung der Parade in Kombination mit den (um 30 Sekunden) längeren Stops im Vergleich zu der Wonderful World of Disney Parade führte sogar zu extremen Wartezeiten (besonders da die Gäste sehr früh zu den Paraden ihre Plätze einnehmen). Gemeinsam mit einigen rechtlichen Fragen (im Score wurde auch Nicht-Disney-Musik verwandt) brachte dies die Entscheidung Mitte Juni auf, die Stops und damit auch die wunderbaren Kompositionen von Vasile Sirli zu streichen. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt lief die Parade ohne Stops durch, untermalt nur durch den sich wiederholenden Themesong. Da dessen 4 Minuten Version jedoch nicht den gewünschten abwechslungsreichen Hintergrund lieferte, realisierte man Schritt für Schritt bis August 2000 einen neuen Soundtrack, der wie die Parade ohne Unterbrechung läuft, und bis zuletzt im Einsatz war.

Der neue Soundtrack besteht aus der bekannten Originalaufnahme des Songs mit der Kanadierin Tatiana Hancheroff, einer kurzen Instrumental-Überleitung und einem Remix des Songs mit einem Sänger und Chor.
Selbst wenn der Wegfall der Stops einige sehenswerte Choreographien und einen beachtlichen Score, den Disney-Musik-Fans als wahren Schatz bezeichnen, bedeutet, so ist das Tempo der Parade doch dadurch auch gestiegen, ist sie jetzt eine sehr unterhaltsame, flotte Reise rund um die Welt - samt Titelsong der die Gäste wirklich zum Tanzen und Klatschen bringt ....

Erhältlich ist die gelungene Originalaufnahme von Tatiana Hancheroff (die den Song am 31.12.1999 und 1. Januar 2000 live in DLP präsentierte) auf einer Single (EDDA012-2) von DLP, die auch eine Instrumental-Version von "All Around the World" bietet. Die zweite Version (offiziell als "Remix" bezeichnet) wurde erst 2002 auf der CD "L'Album Anniversaire - 10 Disneyland Paris" (EDDA018-2) veröffentlicht, die auch einen einzelnen Instrumentaltrack der Parade enthält.
Wer die Magie des kompletten Scores geniessen möchte, kann auf die CD "Les Parades en Musicque" CD (edition 2000) (EDDA013-2) zurückgreifen. Dort findet sich der Score der 7 Sektionen, der Mitte Juni 2000 zusammen mit den Stops gestrichen wurde, sowie die Originalaufnahme des Themesongs.

Während die Untermalung für Mickey in seinem Luftschiff auf drei Disney Stücken basiert (The Mickey Mouse march, Zip-A-Dee-Dooh-Dah, It's A Small World), die weltweit als Disney-Songs bekannt sind, hat Vasile Sirli die Untermalung für die 6 Kontinente durch eine meisterhafte Verbindung von Songs und Scoreelementen aus Disney-Filmen erreicht, die mit dem jeweiligen Kontinent verbunden sind. Daher ist es interessant festzustellen, daß für Asien unteranderem "A Friend Like Me" aus Aladdin Verwendung fand, weil zahlreiche Franzosen die Geschichte von Aladdin mit Asien verbinden. Dennoch aber taucht "Prince Ali" aus dem selben Film im Score für Afrika ebenfalls auf. Bemerkenswert auch, daß "The bare Necessities" ebenfalls Asien zugeordnet wurde. Afrikas Soundtrack, obwohl gleich lang wie alle anderen Scores, enthält die wenigsten Songs - nur 4 und zwar aus Aladdin, dem König der Löwen und Tarzan sowie eine Instrumentalfassung des Songs der Parade.
Die besondere Herausforderung von Ozeanien, daß mit diesem Kontinent kein spezielles Disney-Material verbunden wird, löste Vasile Sirli meisterhaft durch die Kombination von Disney's "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" mit Nicht-Disney-Musik im Hawaii-Stil. Ein Trick den er auch für Süd-Amerika andwandt, das unter anderem mit Songs aus Ariel untermalt wird.
Unglaubliche 18(!) Songs wurden für Nord-Amerika kombiniert, darunter aus Pocahontas und Pinocchio, aber auch Country-Klassiker und Broadway-Hits (wie z.B. "New York, New York") - leider ist das grandiose Medley für die CD auf 1:55 gekürzt worden, da nicht alle Rechteinhaber pünktlich Genehmigungen einräumten (so wurde unter anderem Bernstein's "America" entfernt). Doch ist zu erwähnen, daß die Musik dennoch in einem Guß fließt und keine Brüche zu bemerken sind!
Aus den selben gründen ist auch der Soundtrack für Europa auf CD gekürzt - zu hören ist ein interessanter Mix aus Klassik (Brahms und Beethoven) mit Disney-Material aus Die Schöne und Das Bies und Schneewittchen und die Sieben Zwerge.

Alle 7 Instrumental-Scores präsentieren eine muntere, flotte Kreation, die schwungvoll und energisch von dem Budapest Pop Orchester eingespielt wurde. Dabei ist besonders der natürlich Fluß zwischen den einzelnen, sehr unterschiedlichen Melodien hervorzuheben. Vasile Sirli ist es gelungen ein musikalisches Gesamtwerk zu schaffen, daß auch ohne optische Eidnrücke den Gast auf eine Weltreise mitnimmt - herausragend!

Und schließlich noch ein kurzer Blick hinter die Kulissen: die italienische Firma Scenotek hat, neben anderen Aufträgen für DLP, auch einige Elemente der großen Wagen für die ImagiNations Parade sowie die kleineren Wagen der Damen, die die einzelnen Kontinente anführen, erstellt. Auf Ihrer Webseite gewähren sie einen kurzen Blick in die Produktionshallen während der Arbeit an diesen Wagen...
