 The lights of the tidy turn of the century Main Street flicker and a shallow laughter suddenly is filling the air and further rises while one after the other the lights of the shops and restaurants die down...
It's the time of ghosts and goblins - not only in Halloweenland but for the duration of the parade also in the Main Street and parts of Fantasyland. After the (especially at night) fitting introduction that sets the atmosphere the dancable and at the same time ghostly melody of the themesong "Halloween-Halloween" sets in, and slowly, achiing teh gates to the Town Square open to let thick fog flow out onto the square, stretching its fingers to the guests ... and hidden in the fog also the first scarecrow dancers dare to set their foot out into our world, with witches and ghosts, skelettons and goblins directly behind them, all dancing to the catchy song in a powerful choreography - but right now they still try to use the cover the ghostly fog provides which flows out of the shadow world into the lively Main Street...

Among them the Disney Villains wander trying to scare the guests with their powers - but just as the dancers not all the characters are real villains! If you look close you can find Chip'n Dale in their costumes as ghosts too trying to play funny tricks on the children standing along the street and fellow characters in the parade, especially Donald. But who knows wether they would be as happy as they are if they knew that with this parade the villains celebrate their entry into the realms of Disneyland which they want to fully take over to shoo all the other characters away - so this is the first act a battle the villains will fight all day long not only in Halloweenland, but also in Fantasyland...

Also included are some minor floats pushed or pulled by the dancers - while not as elaborate and big as in the main daytime parade they fit perfectly. Where else could one see a skeletton cycling and a mummy riding on his coffin or a complete mummy-family on their day out?
Not missing are also Mickey and Minnie in their seasonal costumes who ride at the end of the parade on a huge hay-carriage together with a family chosen among the guests early in the day. An impressive and especially peacefull sight after all the villains as the carriage is pulled by four horses...

The whole parade is less a parade to marvel at but more a happening uniting the stars of the Villain world of Disney as e.g. Jafar, Malefiz, the wicked witch, Cruella de Vile, Frollo, Gaston or Ratcliffe with the guests in a mix of a scary and funny setting for a real good, screamin' party time with a song you won't forget and which will make you join the dancers to celebrate the entry of the villains ... so pure fun for all ages and especially fans of the Villains!

 Die Lichter der gepflegten Main Street aus dem vergangenen Jahrhundert flackern und plötzlich ist die Luft mit Gelächter erfüllt, das anschwillt während nach und nach die Lampen erlöschen ... es ist die Zeit der Geister und Hexen - und nicht nur im Halloweenland sondern während der Parade auch in der Main Street und Teilen des Fantasylands. Nach der (besonders bei Nacht) wirkungsvollen Einstimmung setzt die tanzbare und doch geisterhafte Melodie des Songs "Halloween-Halloween" ein, die Tore zum Town Sqaure öffnen sich knarrend und quietschend und dicke Nebelschwaden wallen auf den Platz, strecken ihre gierigen Finger nach den Gästen aus .. und langsam werden auch die ersten Vogelscheuchen-Tänzer sichtbar, dicht gefolgt von Hexen und Geister, Skelette und Goblines, die alle zu dem eingängigen Song die Paradenstrecke entlang tanzen in einer schwungvollen Choreographie - doch noch nutzen sie den Schutz des geisterhaften Nebels, der aus ihrem Reich in die farbige Main Street quillt...

Zwischen ihnen schlendern die Disney Bösewichte und versuchen die Gäste zu erschrecken - aber genau wie die Tänzer sind nicht alle Figuren echte Bösewichte! Auch A- und B-Hörnchen in ihren Geisterkostümen kann man beobachten, wie sie versuchen die Kinder und besonders Donald mit lustigen Streichen zu necken. Aber wer weiß, ob sie ebenso zu Scherzen aufgelegt wären, wenn sie wüssten, dass die Bösewichte mit dieser Parade ihren Einzug in das Disneyland feiern, dass sie erobern möchten, um die anderen Figuren zu vertreiben - das hier ist nur der erste Akt eines Kampfes, den die Bösewichte den ganzen Tag über nicht nur im Halloweenland sondern auch in Fantasyland führen werden...

Außerdem sind einige Wagen Teil der Parade gezogen und geschoben von Tänzern, die, auch wenn sie nicht so groß und detailreich wie in der Hauptparade sind, perfekt passen. Wo sonst kann man ein radelndes Skelett und eine Mumie erleben, die auf ihrem Sarg dahinrollt oder eine komplette Mumienfamilie auf einem Ausflug?
Nicht fehlen dürfen natürlich Mickey und Minnie, die auf einem großen Heuwagen gemeinsam mit einer früh am Tag unter den Gästen ausgewählten Familie das Ende der Parade bilden. Ein beeindruckender und nach all den Bösewichten friedlicher Anblick, wird der Wagen doch von vier Pferden gezogen...

Die gesamte Parade ist eher ein Happening, das die Stars unter den Disney-Bösewichte wie Jafar, Malefiz, die böse Hexe, Cruella de Vile, Frolo, Gaston oder Ratcliffe und die Gäste in einer schaurig schönen Party, einer "screamin' party", zusammenbringt - samt einem unvergesslichen Song, der zum Tanzen verführt und einlädt den Einzug der Bösewichte zu feiern ... kurz Spaß für Gäste jeden Alters und besonders Freunde der Bösewichte!

 If the Villain Invasion is scheduled for the morning and some time after nightfall (e.g. for the night of the Halloween Party) try to catch it at the later time - the special introduction on the Main Street, U.S.A. when the lights flicker and bodyless voices float around creates a perfect atmosphere unreached by the daytime performances.

No matter where you want to watch the parade, depending on how crowded the park is, you should show up 5 to 15 minutes in advance. The only place to watch the parade while sitting is at the Castle Stage, but these seats (which are really cold in the winter) are occupied very long in advance.

Most guests line up along the Main Street U.S.A. and Central Plaza for the unique sight of the parade with the castle as backdrop, while it is by far less crowded in Fantasyland in front of and opposite of the Pizzeria Bella Notte. There are also four points from where to get an "on the top"-view of the parade: right in front of the queuing area of It's A Small World, the balcony on top of the director's booth behind the seats of the Castle Stage, the pavilion at Town Square and finally the Main Street Station of the railroad (usually the most crowded of this four places that expecially the photographers like).

 When the parade premiered at the very first annual Halloween Festival of Disneyland Paris in 1997 it was even less a parade than a happening - therefor also the parade's original name "Halloween Happening" which was replaced with "The Villain Invasion" in 2002 only, which was the last year before the parade was replaced with the Disney Villain parade.

Back than (and in 1998) the parade started on the Main Street, U.S.A. at the Town Square, went all the way down to the Central Plaza but then left the usual parade route and ventured into Halloweenland / Frontierland where it dissolved itself in front of the Phantom Manor. In these years the parade just featured dancers and manly consisted of the villain characters who would walk around Halloweenland after the Happening ended available for photos or to give autographs (and some tricks). As the Happening took place shortly after the park opened it was celebrated as the entry of the villains into Halloweenland. When the parade was repeated on the afternoon on bussy days it run the route backwards as the villains left Halloweenland again.
With the huge success of the festival and the Happening it evolved in the following years - so the floats pushed or pulled by castmembers were added in 1999 and a trike designed to look like a skull with a candle on top in 2000 "on" which Mickey and Minnie in seasonal costumes rode. With the addition of these floats the Happening also returned to the usual parade route from Town Square to It's A Small World. Also new was the scheduling of the parade for the afternoon - but what ghost does love the burning sun?
Therefore since 2001 the parade is back to an early morning schedule. In 2001 the parade was also routed toward the Phantom Manor once again and billed as the entry of the villains to Halloweenland - but this was only to last for one season as 2002 the parade was back to the normal parade route leading to It's a Small World and therefore was billed again more general as entry of the villains into Disneyland. But this was only one change of two for 2002 - in a second step the skull-trike was taken out of the parade and Mickey and Minnie were now riding in a huge hay-carriage pulled by four horses. Still even with all these changes the character of the parade centering around the villains never changed, just as the soundtrack staid too.

The soundtrack of the parade is the catchy "Halloween-Halloween" by Vasile Sirli (music) and Jay Smith (lyrics) who also created the new DLP-classic "Dancin' (A Catchy Rhythm)" for the Wonderful World of Disney Parade. The song, which is also the themesong of the whole festival and used for several of the Halloween shows, is inviting guests to clap and join the chorus for the refrain. While something to hum all day long the song is also sophisticated on musical terms.
It is available on the CDs "Frontierland en Musique" and "10 - L' Album Anniversaire" all year long and during the festival on a single titled "Halloween-Halloween". The Frontierland-CD and the single include the full versions with vocals and an instrumental version that is also played during the parade (and used again for some stage shows), but only the single includes some eerie sound effects as a bonus - the anniversary CD only features the song with vocals. For sure this song is one off the true new classics that caught on with the guests the very first time it was played.

1997 und 1998 startete die Parade am Town Square,  verließ dann aber an der Central Plaza die übliche Route und wandte sich in das Halloweenland / Frontierland, wo sie vor Phantom Manor endete. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt bestand die Parade lediglich aus den Tänzern und in erster Linie den Bösewichten, die im Anschluss das Halloweenland bevölkerten und dort für Photos und Autogramme (sowie kleine Scherze) bereit standen. Da das Happening zudem kurz nach der Öffnung des Parks stattfand, wurde es als Einzug der Bösewichte in das Halloweenland zelebriert. Wurde die Parade an Tagen mit großem Andrang Nachmittags wiederholt, so handelte es sich um den Auszug der Stars aus dem Halloweenland.
Mit dem großen Erfolg des Festivals und des Happenings entwickelten sich beide weiter - so wurden 1999 die von den Tänzern geschobenen Wagen und im Jahre 2000 das Trike in Gestalt eines Schädels samt Kerze darauf ergänzt, "auf" dem Mickey und Minnie in ihren Halloween-Kostümen fuhren. Außerdem kehrte das Happening auf die klassische Route, die sich vom Town Square zu It's A Small World zieht, zurück und wurde auf den Nachmittag verschoben. Doch welche Geister lieben die strahlende Mittagssonne? So findet die Parade seit 2001 wieder am Vormittag statt. 2001 kehrte man sogar vorübergehend auf die ursprüngliche Route zurück, die vor dem Phantom Manor endet, und zelebrierte derart den Einzug der Bösewichte in das Halloweenland. 2002 allerdings fand sich die Parade wieder auf der normalen Paraderoute, so dass nun auch der Einzug der Bösewichte wieder in den ganzen Park gefeiert wurde. Außerdem wurde das "Skull-Trike" 2002 entfernt - Mickey und Minnie fahren nun auf einem großen von vier Pferden gezogenen Heuwagen. Erhalten geblieben ist über die Jahre aber immer der besondere Charakter der Parade rund um die Bösewichte - ebenso wie auch der Soundtrack unverändert blieb.

Als Soundtrack dient das eingängige "Halloween-Halloween" von Vasile Sirli (Musik) und Jay Smith (Text), die schon für den DLP-Klassiker "Dancin' (A Catchy Rhythm)" der Wonderful World of Disney Parade verantwortlich waren. Der Song, zugleich der Themesong des Festivals und bei diversen Shows zu hören, lädt zum Mitklatschen und Einstimmen in den Refrain förmlich ein. Doch auch wenn man ihn den ganzen Tag noch summt, so ist er doch musikalisch anspruchsvoll.
Für Zuhause ist er auf den CDs "Frontierland en Musique" sowie "10 - L' Album Anniversaire" und während des Festivals auf der Single "Halloween-Halloween" erhältlich. Sowohl die Frontierland-CD als auch die Single enthalten die Standardversion sowie eine Instrumentalfassung, die ebenfalls während der Parade und einigen Shows zum Einsatz kommt. Als Bonus bietet die Single zudem einige gruselige Soundeffekte - auf der Geburtstags-CD findet sich nur der Song. Abschließend lässt sich eines sagen: dieser Song ist einer der echten neuen DLP-Klassiker, begeistert er jedes Publikum doch schon beim ersten mal.
