The Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios seems to race toward the finish line faster and faster. Only last week the entrance sign at the area’s main entrance was spotted over the construction fence and now already the giant Buzz Lightyear statue has been put in place! The French forum of Disney Magic Interactive is featuring what might very well be the very first photo of the statue – which more than just peeks over the construction fence but looks just as tall as the entrance sign, if not even a bit taller … check it out! As DLP.info already reported earlier Toy Story Playland will be opening its gates to visitors officially on August, 17th - less than two month from now. But so far no official signs for the opening could be found anywhere in the resort. However, this has recently changed and the opening date of the new area in the Walt Disney Studios is now announced in one single place of the resort! (more…)

Welcome Back Studio 1 Facade

Finally! It felt like ages – and in fact it took more than 4 years – but since the past weekend finally the front facade of Studio 1, the backdrop of the Frontlot and the park’s entrance visible to guests about to enter the park from far out ahead of the turnstiles, is finally visible in all its glory again. Starting late last week the scaffolding has come down from the facade and should be completely gone by now. (more…)

Toy Story Playland – Video Report – UPDATED!

At the center of the 3:19 min long report presented in English is a view of the current construction of the Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios. The material is all new, shot past Saturday, April 24th only. And there is plenty of news to discover in the report (as embedded below)…
The first news can be seen in the first seconds in the far background: the big number “1″ at the top of the Studio 1 facade facing the Frontlot has reappeared from behind the scaffolding that was added lately. As other reports coming in indicate, the number and the surrounding area as visible once again now has all been freshly repainted.
However, the view over the dark blue construction fence in front of the future Toy Story Playland is what is really exciting … dtvdavid1 is able to show for the very first time what appears to be the final parachutes for the Army Men Parachute Drop. Dark green fabric with a camouflage design now covers the metal framework on the cables above the ride’s seats!

… is the day the Studio Tram Tour in the Walt Disney Studios Park will finally return to service for guests. Until then guests will be greeted by the sight as seen here on the right at the far end of the Hollywood Boulevard.
As has been widely reported the closure that by then will have been in place for several months is NOT due to an extensive update of the experience for guests – unfortunately. Instead the closure was prompted by the construction for the Toy Story Playland right next to the former road of the Studio Tram Tour. The Toy Story Playland is also responsible for the one change that so far has been known to be implemented into the Studio Tram Tour during the closure: a re-routing of the segments between the station and the Catastrophe Canyon respectively the Dinotopia temple set. One of the answers you can find on the side, the second one will be a guess on how many people enterred the competition. Just keep in mind: the website (and the competition) is in Dutch.
The lucky winners will get a room in Disney’s New York Hotel for 2 nights, tickets for both theme parks for 3 nights and VIP FastPass tickets so they will not have to queue on any of the attractions that offer FastPass service.

Update from the Army Men – plus: an ice cream scoop
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010jornjokker has provided fans of Disneyland Paris with two interesting updates in the past couple of days on Twitter - in particular regarding the upcoming Toy Story Playland as he managed to grab a photo of the Army Men Parachute Drop with the future parachutes pulled up to the top of the ride during some test operation. The photo on twitpic in particular shows that the seats have been attached to the cables under the frame work for the future parachute-like covers.
Differing from the similar Jumpin’ Jellyfish ride in Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim the future ride at WDS’ Toy Story Playland consists of only one instead of two towers with the tower only having 5 instead of 6 parachutes attached. However, while each parachute provides only two seats in DCA (bringing the total capacity per tower to 12 and therefore for the whole ride to 24) the parachutes of the Army Men Parachute Drop feature a different, more substantial seating construction providing 6 seats per parachute (two rows back to back, with each row offering three separate seats next to each other), bringing the total capacity of the tower to 30 36 seats (6 12 more than the combined seats on both towers at DCA). This also explains the much more burly, massiv impression the actual tower and in particular the construction on top of it at WDS has compared to DCA’s towers. (more…)
Snacking & Dining – the latest changes
Friday, April 16th, 2010Both theme parks at Disneyland Paris offer a wide range of dining and snacking options. Over the last 2 years the resort also has pushed once again to diversify the offerings in the various locatios more, especially in regard to the counter service locations. With the latest move to adjust the restaurant offerings in the Disneyland Park the former counter service location “Buzz Lightyear’s Pizza Planet” in the back of Discoveryland (to the right of the Imagination Institute of “Honey, I Shrunk The Audience”) has been transformed into a buffet offering. Buffet offerings have proved inxcreasingly popular at Disneyland Park. This newest buffet location according to its signage placed in the walkway out front offers salads, pizza, pastam desserts and (cold) drinks priced at EUR 6,95 for children respectively 14,95 for adults. PixieDust.be has a first photo also of the interior which seemns to have seen only slightl modifications to the counter area (which btw was created out of moveable segments in the first place).
