Toy Story Playland ConstructionBehind the Disney Art of Animation, between the Tram Tour station and the Toon Studios the Walt Disney Studios are preparing a new themed area with several attractions as the highlight for 2010: Toy Story Playland – as reported here already several times in detail.

Toy Story Playland Construction 01But how is work progressing? All visible from outside so far is a huge non-descript construction fence – even the piles of dirt have disappeared again, that were visible over the fence earlier this summer, when ground preparation started. However, a look around the construction fence at one of the gaps at its corners reveals that the ground preparation does not only seem mostly finished, but that already concrete fundaments have been poured into major parts of the area – even for walkways it seem!

Studios Construction Update

Walt Disney Studios Store Limo 0907Despite the busy summer season in full swing the Walt Disney Studios Park is seing several more or less obvious and more or less construction projects going on … time for a wrap up …

The facade of Studio 1 facing toward the Frontlot and seen already by guests approaching the park is still fully covered by scaffolding and a scrim with a printed on replica of the facade. However, geusts shouldn’t expect this to change since – as already reported – there is no actual work going on there right now, but the scaffolding has been retained to allow for easy installation of an oversized advertising poster should Walt Disney Pictures be willing to pay for such step once again. In the meantime the last work on the Walt Disney Studios Store has been finished and the stretch limousine that is used as backdrop for a Meet’n'Greet with various Disney characters has been moved back from in front of Studio 1 to its original place in front of the Studio Store in the past week. However, thereby access to one of the newly added doors have been partially been obstructed again. The real surprising construction work can be found further inside the park … and photos can be found right after this break (more…)

Studio Construction Update

Studio Store 0906The Walt Disney Studios still remain the premier construction site at the Disneyland Resort Paris, if general rehab work is excluded. So time for a short round-up of the status-quo…

The work on the Studio Store is finished. The shop windows have been replaced with wider versions and new, wider entrances to the first and last section of the building been installed as well as the planters in front of these two entrances made considerable smaller to invite guests to take a short diversion into the shop, whose interior has also been carefully re-arranged for a better shopping experience, especially moving the cashiers closer to the exits. As a side-effect the large black limousine used as a photo backdrop for Character Meet’n#Greets was also moved further to the back of the Frontlot in front of the  Studio 1, so not to block the entrance to the first part of the Studio Store.

The front facade of Studio 1 facing the Frontlot is still covered by scaffolding covered by a printed canvas of the facade. However, there is no (more…)

Backlot Express cleaning the house

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

The Walt Disney Studios park has not only seen the addition of major attractions in it’s first 7 years but also numerous smaller changes to improve the guest experience most of which were implemented without any big announcement. Right now it seems that another of these improvement projects is getting underway at the Backlot Express restaurant located opposite of the Rock’n'Roller Coaster.

The restaurant already offering various warm and cold foods to grab on counters already underwent small changes in its first year of operation, when the originally only covered terrasse was fully enclosed to expand the indoor seating. However, the latest changes are more centrail aiming at the themeing concept itself… (more…)

Studio expansion – the next step – under construction NOW

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

When the construction notice for a re-routing of the Tram Tour route went up outside the Walt Disney Studios park, just off a little side street in the back of the Rock’n'Roller Coaster, close to the police station, rumors picked up again about a new “mini-land” to be added behind the Disney Art of Animation and the Toon Studios. But Disneyland Resort Paris did not confirm anything. However, the rumors pretty soon narrowed it down to the new mini-land featuring a themeing based on the Disney Pixar Toy Story franchise and featuring 3 rides. Could that be correct?

Well, recent reports indicate: yes! Next to the construction notice for the re-routing of the Tram Tour a second construction notice has been put up (as is required by French law) for the “implantation de 3 manèges extérieurs” – or in English: the installation of three outdoor carousels / rides! So the Walt Disney Studios are definitely being expanded with three outdoor rides!

Getting ready for April and beyond!

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

studiosshop1There is a lot of work going on at Disneyland Resort Paris to get the two parks ready for the April holidays and the summer season. The central Plaza stage is ready and so are the Stitch dance platforms, even with the problems mentioned in previous news. But there is enough other things that still needs to get ready. At Start Tours the main entrance is blocked off. Guest need to enter it between the fences and the Constellations shop, making it a narrow place for those trying to enter the attraction, leaving it, or for those shopping.

In Adventureland, just across the Hakuna Matata Restaurant, Café de la Brousse has been scaffolded for a while now. The bland scaffolding around this small takeaway isn’t very nice for the eye, so one hopes this locations restauration will be done soon. In Frontierland the work at the Last Chance Cafe seems to be done. It was surprising to see some (more…)
