Shareholders’ Club Night Event

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Friday evening the Shareholders’ Club members were invited to enjoy the all new Toy Story Playland at Walt Disney Studios Park after park closure. Considering the late nightfall and early park closing of the Walt Disney Studios the event was the first opportunity to enjoy the new addition to the park with its lighting design in full display.

During a visit to Toy Story Playland earlier in the day numerous additional, temporary lights were found to be standing in the new area, however, those turned out to be not necessary at night and were not used. Most propably they had been placed in TSPL already in anticipation for the major press event scheduled for Saturday night. But then for Friday’s Shareholders’ Club event the regular lighting needed no extra add-ons. This also had the big advantage that guests could enjoy the light design as it was intended by Imagineering… (more…)

This way to Toy Story Playland

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

For more than 2 years a giant billboard advertised the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror to everyone heading toward the parks from the resort’s main daytime guest parking lot. Located right above the fence blocking off the future Disney Village expansion lot in front of the Disney Village parking structure the large billboard is perfectly located to be noted by all guests no matter whether they plan to head into the Disneyland Park or the Walt Disney Studios. In time for the opening of the Toy Story Playland the billboard finally was replaced and is now proudly touting the newest addition to the studios: Toy Story Playland. But that is not the only sign which got updates for Toy Story Playland… (more…)

Makeshift Signs & Rope Mazes at Toy Story Playland

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

The extreme popularity of the Toy Story Playland (penned up by the late opening on August 17 despite being prominently featured in ads since early spring) is having its impact in particular on wait times as reported here reportedly since the official opening of the area. However, despite wait times exceedings 100 minutes at times for RC Racer the queue area of this attraction has proven to be more than large enough with the line mostly being limited to the covered section and the last meters of the out door section leading to it. On the other hand the queue for Slinky Dog ZigZag Spin is frequently extended with ropes in front of its entrance. Close to the ride’s exit just opposite of the entrance to RC Racer another line has been roped off for handicapped guests who are allowed to bypass the regular line (but nevertheless have to wait in a line). New at Toy Story Playland: FENCES!

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

A bit more than two weeks have gone by for the Toy Story Playland in regular operation and we can already report the next addition to it – unfortunately its fences. Next to the station building of RC Racer a set up had been installed in a special extension of the walkways featuring a smaller version of the RC Racer on a bit of red toy track. The unique twist there being, that the RC Racer was open on its left side (facing toward the rear of the land) so that guests could step seemingly into the car to get their photo taken as if onboard of it. By the end of last week temporary steel barriers with white plastic coverings had been errected around this RC Racer photo op blocking access to it while still allowing to take pictures over the barrier at least of the scene (even so not with anyone inside). AP Holders a.k.a. the early birds of Toy Story Playland

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

As reported the all new Toy Story Playland has proven extremly popular with guests since it opened in the past week – unfortunately resulting in longer waiting lines for its three attractions. Taking into account this and the success of the exclusive previews of the area prior to its official opening for holders of the Annual Passport Dream the resort has decided to grant all holders of Annual Passports of the resort the unique opportunity to enjoy the Toy Story Playland once again exclusively!

Well, to be correct not just once – but DAILY from August 25 till September 17, 2010! Every day in this period Toy Story Playland opens for holders of Annual Passports from 8:30 till 9:30 am so that AP holders can enjoy the area uncrowded and hop on all three rides (which are scheduled to be operating unless an unexpected technical problem might occur) without the now regular long lines. Single Riders to the front – and more TSPL experiences

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Toy Story Playland is not yet even open for 10 days but with the first weekend and several buy summer season weekdays of regular operation under its belt its time to sum up the first opinions and report about the first adjustments that the operational team has introduced in response to what can only be called an overwhelming guest response to the new are of the Walt Disney Studios – one of which is a real positive surprise…

The impact of the new Toy Story Playland becomes obvious already prior to entering the park as the lines on the entrance gates prior to the official opening of the park have considerably grown. However, once the gates open a large number of guests still head to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and in particular Crush’s Coaster, where a massive line still forms and stays in place throughout the day. So the effect of reducing the line at Crush’s Coaster that some fans had hoped for hasn’t shown up. (more…)

Sound Barrier

Friday, August 20th, 2010

It’s all in the details and Disney proofs this time and time again. Just look at the news about the new Toy Story Playland we brought you here during the last couple of days. How important it is to Disney and the Imagineers to create a perfect experience can be seen in the many details they look after when designing the attractions and the general themeing of an area. Some of these details might not be that visual and other are created to take care of an annoying side effect. A good example for the latter case can be found in the waiting areas of the Slinky Dog ZigZag Spin as well as the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop…  (more…)

Today is the day…

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

…the day Toy Story Playland officially opens! Posters advertising the grand opening have been popping up all over Paris and the surrounding area since last week, in particular at the bus stops. Interestingly the marketing department of the resort decided to show the Sleeping Beauty Castle as prominent feature in the backdrop behind the new rides of the Toy Story Playland. It needs to be awaited whether this was a clever move or not – afterall a potential guests might get the wrong impression, that Toy Story Playland is part of the Disneyland Parc and not of the Walt Disney Studios.

But back to the opening. Today the blue construction fence closing off the new area will have disappeared and with it the posters telling guests that only inveted guests can visit Toy Story Playland. As of today every guests in the Walt Disney Studios will get shrunken to the size of Andy’s toys – if he wants. But what to do if you can’t be at the Walt Disney Studios for the opening today and can’t wait to get shrunk? Gusteau in a Box – but Remy in freedom

Monday, August 16th, 2010

One of the biggest surprises that came with the Toy Story Playland was the Parisian Street located right next to it, functioning as a side entrance to the new area of the Walt Disney Studios. Why it was the maybe biggest surprise? Not just because of its existence (that wasn’t mentioned in advance) but because of Gusteau looking down on the guests from high atop the archway over the entrance leading from the lower end of the street into Toy Story Playland.

As covered in detail this detail could be seen as a hint toward the next big attraction that might come to the Studios … a Ratatouille dark ride that has been widely rumored already (for details check out our detailed photo coverage of the Parisian Street). However, when the Annual Passport previews of the Toy Story Playland began last Saturday Gusteau was … gone! (more…)

Toy Story Playland – MORE Videos

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Following his first four videos (check them out in our earlier post) YouTube user Crumser has uploaded two more videos which he filmed Friday evening at nightfall inside Toy Story Playland. Crumser was able to be in the all new area of the Walt Disney Studios for an exclusive after-hour soft opening / preview of the Toy Story Playland apparently conducted for Imagineers, their families and friends. During this event the guests in attendance where not only able to check out the themeing and light design but also the three attractions. But now on to the two new videos … (more…)
