Short is the keyword today – short, because we only have a short update; short, because it is only a short time left till the official opening of the latest expansion area of the Walt Disney Studios Paris; short, because, well, we are talking about a land where guests will become short enough to ride on the back of a toy dog and mingle with other toys. But enough of the intro.
Progress of the area is barely spottable across the construction fence anymore – but that is because the area seems to have entered seriously into the test-and-adjust phase for the attractions. Once dusk sets in the colorful lights of the area are regularly turned on apparently with their light shining across the fence. Also reports about all three attractions being tested arrive frequently now, talking about the race car of the RC Racer riding up on the half pipe track, the parachutes being hoisted up to the top of the tower as well as Slinky racing in a circle. The Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios seems to race toward the finish line faster and faster. Only last week the entrance sign at the area’s main entrance was spotted over the construction fence and now already the giant Buzz Lightyear statue has been put in place! The French forum of Disney Magic Interactive is featuring what might very well be the very first photo of the statue – which more than just peeks over the construction fence but looks just as tall as the entrance sign, if not even a bit taller … check it out! However, that is not all the news from the Toy Story Playland … (more…)

Since April 2 guests of the two theme parks at Disneyland Paris receive the first edition of the current park maps not only featuring indications for the special entertainment that is part of the “New Generation Festival” but also announcing the upcoming Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios Park.
The new area is already fully featured in the new park map with all three of its attractions plus the designation “Opening end of Summer 2010″ in the description. Any other noteable changes in the park maps? Yes, for the WDS obviously the route of the Tram Tour was adjusted. However, hopes shouldn’t be getting too high, the park map does not indicate anything but the adjustment of the track route – no hints of any kind that new stuff might have been placed alongside the route during the current lengthy closure of this attraction. But there are some interesting details regarding the Toy Story Playland respectively its attractions in the map… (more…)

While the first large bamboo planted on the far side of the future Toy Story Playland area in the Walt Disney Studios starts to (at least partially) block the view of the current costume building for the resort from within in the new area of the park, the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop tower still towers high above everything else in the surrounding area of the parks (well, besides the Tower of Terror certainly). It’s green camoflage design doesn’t help it to blend in – shades of green just kind of stand out from the (at least today) blue skies.
However, there is also somethng good about this visual intrusion – at least during the current construction phase: it is easy to follow the construction progress for this specific attraction. Since the huge tower was errected and the extensions added at its top from which in the meantime the strong steel cables were dropped that will secure the “parachutes” / gondolas for guests progress to the actual ride seemed to have stopped more or less … but now there is something new to discover for guests that take a closer look across the construction fence! There is a lot of work going on in the Walt Disney Studios behind the blue fence. The Disney Workmen are hard at work getting Toy Story Playland ready for its big opening day. Disney does everything to try and make sure guests will have no or limited hinder during the work. They also try to block the view of the place as much as possible. Hence the blue fence,… but other measures are taken too. The photo opportunity platform of the Flying Carpets has been closed. Like this guest cannot have a look at what is going on behind the blue fences. However, could it be that the weather is to blame again? As the icy cold at the moment isn’t the best condition for people to climb the slippery steps, it could well be that’s the main reason for closing the platform at the moment. No worries though, DLP.Info did manage to get a good look at the new zone and is happy to share it with our faithful readers. It might not be more then a lot of concrete at the moment, but for us Disney fans it’s still a nice view of the progress that is being made.

The Toy Story Army Man are waiting anxiously to get to work and make their first Parachute jump. Looking at the work that is being done on their Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop attraction it wont be long anymore. The big metal arms that will hold the parachutes are put into place and are sticking out on the newly vertical erect tower. On the pictures you can see the Disney crew being lifted up to work on them and to make sure all is in place and ready for the next phase.
The tower is already turning into a real eye catcher and will be even more once it starts “dropping” screaming guests.
But not everybody might like the new eye catcher as, unfortunately, the Parachute drop will also be very visible from Frontierland. This is a real disadvantage for the atmosphere of Frontierland. This is an unfortunate problem with the Disneyland Park and the Studios being build so close together. While it makes it easy to park hop, guest will encounter the sometimes unfitting panoramic views.
This has been mentioned many times when the Tower of Terror was put in place, but with this new “tower” added could become another heated topic on many Disney Boards. What do you think about about the tower so far? Is the camouflage ride appealing to you or will the view from Frontierland be to disturbing to like the ride?
… and are you ready for your first drop?

Disneytheque managed to get a photo of the latest progress of the construction for the Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios Park. Seen rising high above the construction walls is now the central metal tower of the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop. Later on the arms will be added at the top of the metal column from which the “parachutes” / seats for guests will be suspended. However, the metal column with the “suttle” camouflage paint job the arms will remain free standing without any major changes, even so some planting (most probably bamboo) will at least cover the lower section of column from walkways outside the future Toy Story Playland. The metal column is the first element of the vertical construction that is visible and already sports its finalized look – all buildings currently under construction are still frames or bare concrete walls only and will receive their themeing at a later point. In the background of the photo the crane can be spotted that was used to errect the metal column. For a closer look check out the original full size photo at Disneytheque!

2010 Disneyland Paris is celebrating the “New Generation Festival” – as is hard to miss, with the festival’s theme being layered over the spring / summer brochures already all over Europe and the according posters already placed over the moving wlakways between the theme parks and their main parking lot.
Now DLRP Fan Blog and DLRP Today have found the first official trailer in English (and in case of the DLRP Fan Blog also in Dutch) for the festival that will premier in April 2010 as also embedded below. (more…)
