The Toys are Moving In on August 17th

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Finally! Woody, Buzz and their Toy friends are almost ready to move into the Toy Story playland area in the Walt Disney Studios. Works are nearing completion, test runs will follow and then it will be ready to take the fences down and to open the new area inside the studios. The Toy Story Crew have their bags packed and will be ready for the grand opening that has now been given a date.

The gates to the new land will open as from August 17th. The new land will welcome guest to enjoy the new attractions “Army Men Parachute Drop”, “Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin” and the “RC Racer”. The new Area opens at the end of the summer season, something that might upset the high season visitors, but could convince them to return for another visit in the near future.

Unannounced soft openings could start earlier in the summer time, surprising young and old guests for a first ride on one of the new attractions.

Although the date has been set for August 17th at this time, as long as Disney doesn’t announce it officially it could still change.

BIG Toys

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Toy Story Playland is going big, very big! Especially when it comes to Buzz Lightyear.

This oversized statue will be the star of the playground and will become a prime location for those family snapshots. New pictures on the web show you how big Buzz will be. Over at Theme Park Review a collection of pictures have emerged where you can see the full statue erect in the workplace. Also in this photo report is a picture of buzz in “smaller” parts. Just like a puzzle, it is lying around on the work floor and on some tables. It is an impressive sight, especially when you see a grown man posing in front of the finished Buzz. Can you recognize the man posing next to Buzz? Yes, it is John Lasseter.

The only thing missing on that picture is the colors on Buzz. This can be found on the next picture in this series. Buzz chest plate is carrying his well known color pallet.

But there is more to see. Scroll down and you’ll get to see some army men getting ready for battle. A first look at the Slinky Dog for the Slinky Dog Zig Zag Spin attraction and a big RC Racer car mold. Visit the Theme Park Review forum for all the pictures.

A Look Over the Blue Fence

Friday, February 19th, 2010

There is a lot of work going on in the Walt Disney Studios behind the blue fence. The Disney Workmen are hard at work getting Toy Story Playland ready for its big opening day. Disney does everything to try and make sure guests will have no or limited hinder during the work. They also try to block the view of the place as much as possible. Hence the blue fence,… but other measures are taken too. The photo opportunity platform of the Flying Carpets has been closed. Like this guest cannot have a look at what is going on behind the blue fences. However, could it be that the weather is to blame again? As the icy cold at the moment isn’t the best condition for people to climb the slippery steps, it could well be that’s the main reason for closing the platform at the moment. No worries though, DLP.Info did manage to get a good look at the new zone and is happy to share it with our faithful readers. It might not be more then a lot of concrete at the moment, but for us Disney fans it’s still a nice view of the progress that is being made.

Changing Colors

Monday, February 15th, 2010

The steel structure shown on the picture is not a Chameleon ride that has just changed color to fit in its environment, but a hangar that will function as the queue area for the new Toy Story Playland attraction “Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop”.

The structure has transformed from white to black and is now ready to get covered up. The two pictures shows you the “before and after” look of the structure.

The final and main color for the complete building will be green to match the attraction’s Tower. The models doesn’t show any camouflage colors as the attraction itself does, so the final paint job for the hangar might be the plain green as is used on the model. (you can see a picture of the Parachute Drop model here in our forum)

Big Boys Toys Arrived!

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Toy Story Playland ConstructionInside the Walt Disney Studios work on the new Toy Story Playland area has started. The “big toys” is rolling in to prepare the land for its new inhabitants from the Toy Story gang. A big yellow crane is spotted just behind the Toy Story decorated fence that encloses the area.

Toy Story Playland ConstructionThe fence is covered with a big Toy Story scene where Buzz and his famous friends are doing the best they can to try and hide the work for the guests in the best possible way.

However, peaking trough the fence reveals groundbreaking work is taking place.  The area is being prepared for the new kiddie (and Toy Story Playland Constructionthose young at heart) attractions.

But it will be a while before the new land is ready and until that time it’s the “big boys” that will be able to play with the big toys to get the attractions into place.
