New Look for the Disney Hotels: The Future

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

Now that we’ve seen what Disney has done so far in part one, and are working on now in part two, it is time to look at the other hotels in the resort that have not been part of the big refurbishment plan.

Disneys-Hotel-New-York-15Disney’s Hotel New York will undergo some big changed to. While no inside yet on what to expect some of secrets are already revealed. The Hotel has an iconic view, but it looks like the facade will get a big overhaul. Not yet clear how, but the hotel might be looking a lot different in the future. Another big change that might come is some more rooms to the hotel. Although this would only be tackled in phase 4, the hotel might get some extra capacity added. It is not clear yet where and how, but an expansion seems most likely. Research and concept work has started on the project, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet for the hotel’s refurbishment.

The first three phases will take care of the facade, the rooms and the other places of the hotel. Again executive rooms will be added and one can expect to see another private club for those guests staying here. More news will surely come our way in the future and we will of course make sure to follow it up and talk about it here.

Once this project is done the Disneyland hotel will be next, but nothing has been said about this project yet.

All hotels will also have Wi-Fi by then. This has been enrolled in both the Disneyland and New York hotels, but all other places will get these too. What better way to keep in contact with the home front while relaxing in one of Disney’s hotels.

New Look for the Disney Hotels: The Present

DNPB1

Yesterday we talked about the projects from the past, today we look at what we can expect to see done at the moment or very near future. As said yesterday, Santa Fee is almost done so at the moment this could also be seen as the hotel that fits into this day’s topic, the present. DNPB2But it won’t be long before it is done and we will get to see another hotel covered in scaffoldings very, very soon. Planned for fall is the Disney’s Newport Bay Club. Everything will get done and by the time they are finished this hotel will look and feel as a whole new place. The work will be divided into three separate projects. First we will see the closure of the East wing, after that the centre will be looked after and it all ends in the West wing and the pool area.

DNPB3The whole outside part of the building will be taken down. All panels you see now will be removed and replaced. Everything will be double layered to give the hotel the best possible insulation. Like this costs can be saved when regulating the hotels heating depending on the weather conditions in this sometimes cold part of Europe. While this might not be that visual to guests, other changes will. Colour scheme will be close to the one we know from the hotel, but there will be some more blue added into the facade’s look, taking away a little of that grey feeling it has now.

DNPB4The rooms look amazing. A couple of mock up room have been installed and they give a clear view of what to expect. The colour are still related to the maritime atmosphere, but have again been notched up a little. White and blue are still there but some warmer colours are thrown into the mix. Especially inside the executive room where more browns are added to the mix. For example the beds in the regular room will remain white while the upscale rooms will have the brown frames. On top of the walls, borders with Disney themes will be added. You’ll see Captain Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto in some artwork being their silly selves.

The hotel will also get another and new breakfast place to take care of the big traffic that needs to go through during the busy morning and just like Sequoia Lodge a special upscale club will be added for those that want some extra quality and quiet time.

DNPB5The project is a massive undertaking and will take a while to finish and might put some strain on the bookings as we are talking about a closure of 524 rooms in the first phase, just over 150 rooms in the second phase and 419 rooms in the last phase. These are big numbers that need to be placed in other locations during the refurbishment. So if this hotel is high on your list and you will visit the resort during fall you better book now. (But be aware that works are going on).

Make sure to visit us again tomorrow to look at the rest of the hotels in part three, the Future.

The Art of Disney on Demand

DisneyArt1

DisneyArt2Nothing is more fun than to take home that one special Disney item that you can cherish long after you’ve returned from the Magic.

And now Disneyland Paris has added another option to make this happen. As from this day onwards Disney guests and fans can take home a piece of the magic in form of a nice and beautiful print.

DisneyArt3At the Disney Gallery in the Disney Village a new little corner has been created for the Art of Disney on Demand. As the name already says you will be able to pick out a piece of art you like and add it to your collection. To do this you have to go to one of the two computer screens where the fun of picking the piece you like the most begins. There are, at this time, 200 different art pieces to choose from. They are placed in categories to make it easier to brows and pick, but once you see all the beautiful pieces even that might not help to make the final choice easy.

DisneyArt4You can chose from Disney Artist Darren Wilson, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse weeklies, 100 Mickey’s, Story Sketches, Princesses, Short Film posters, Classic Disney Movies, Walt Disney and Disney artist Randy Noble. These are the same categories you can find at the US parks where this system is already being used with success. There is however one more list to pick from. This one is specific for the Paris Park and it is a list that excites many fans. It’s the Disneyland Paris Attraction Posters. One of these posters was hanging on the wall as a canvas print and it looked amazing. It was the Phantom Manor poster.

DisneyArt5The prints you will be able to order can be picked on the computers. You can pick from multiple sizes. Like this more guests can enjoy the artwork, even if you don’t have a big place to hang one of the oversized options. Once you made that choice you can either have it printed on paper, like a poster, or on canvas. Once that is done you can add a frame to it. The frame is optional and really not needed on the canvas option as they look amazing the way they are. Once you made your choices you are ready to check out. Put in your personal information like home address and contact information and you are ready. Pay at the cash register and let the waiting game begin. Prints will take approximately 3 weeks before they will be delivered at your home, ready to hang on your wall.

DisneyArt6With 200 artworks to choose from, it will not be an easy task, but the system has endless options to add even more pieces in the future. We even might get to see some rare pictures or art form that can be printed on demand that would otherwise never see the light of day. The options are endless! The smallest posters start at 29,95 Euro without a frame. The biggest canvas without a frame goes up to 160 Euro a piece. Add a frame nd postage cost and you do need some deeper pockets, but when you see the examples hanging on the wall you will know they are worth it.

In Front of Animagique

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

JuneAnimagique At the Studios it is a little less hectic when it comes to refurbishment compared to the work that is being done at the Disneyland Park. The only visible fence is located just in front of Animagique.

At the entrance, in front of the building,  a little square is fenced in. The entrance can be entered from either side of the green fence as the Animagique show is running as scheduled.

Disneyland Paris Promoting WDW Event

TradingPost

At the Pueblo Trading Post shop, at the far end of Frontierland, where the pin traders gather, you will find some of Disney’s nicest collectibles in the form of pins and vinylmations. A perfect place to show some other Disney items too. On the wall of the shop cast members have placed a collection of printouts from a special Walt Disney World event. Starting on Friday 13 September 2013 Disney will have a special hard ticket event where collectors will be able to find a bunch of cool Disney stuff related to the number thirteen and the Disney villains.

WDWevent1The event is the “13 Reflections of Evil Trading Event” and takes place at Epcot. There will be limited villain pins, limited Vinylmations of villains, Statues of some of the most well know villains like Cruella de Ville. Mystery pin boxes, hats, phone covers and a lot more. One very special item will be a framed uncut Disney dollar sheet of the 2013 collection. For those that collect these, remember that the Dalmatians bill was pulled from the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts because of an error on the bill. Dalmatians was spelled Dalmations. These bills are very rare and are sold on ebay around the $40 mark for just one bill. It is very interesting that Disney is now selling these bills as a sheet, even with the error. Unless this is a new print run. We will have to wait and see.

Even with Disneyland Paris promoting, or informing the fans about it, you can’t order tickets for the event in Paris. This needs to be done via the web. Non of the merchandise offered during this event will make it to Paris. The only thing Paris guests will get are a view of the merchandise on the printouts. A very nice gesture of the Cast members… making us all jealous.

Behind the Green Fences

JuneR5-BTM

JuneR8-DumboWith the summer season just around the corner Disney wants to make sure their parks are top notch. So it will be no surprise when you see some fences here and there for work that needs to be done. Unfortunately, sometimes these fences are big and favorite rides might therefor not be open.

In Fantasyland Dumbo is closed and fenced of. The crew is busy working on several parts of the attraction. Both mechanical parts as well as decorative parts where being checked and taken care of by the crew. Some crew members where checking out the side of one of the ride vehicles, just where the lifting arm is attached.

JuneR9-Dumbo JuneR10-Dumbo

JuneR11-ChaletAlso looked after in Fantasyland is the eatery Au Chalet de la Marionnette. The small rehab is very well hidden and is almost not visible in the Fantasyland area. You will see more of the scaffolding when walking past it on the Adventureland side of the building, just behind the small stage of the Following the Leader with Peter Pan show.

Frontierland also lost a big ride because of a rehab. Big Thunder Mountain is closed for a big check up. Disney is pushing for an opening in June so the big summer crowds will be able to enjoy this beloved attraction. For now the crew can be spotted on the track and ride system as well as the queue areas and even other parts of the location. With all the work done on this attraction one can expect to see a very nice polished Big Thunder Mountain once it’s open again.

JuneR6-IndianAlso closed for an overhaul is the Indian Village play area. The play area is completely fenced off and unaccessible for the moment.

Less of an impact will be the rehab at Cool Post in Adventureland. This small eatery is completely fenced in.

In Discoveryland part of the Hypérion wall was fenced of pushing the outside seating area a little more out.
