G-Force vs. UP in the Shops

Monday, October 5th, 2009

G-Force MerchandiseMerchandise for the movie “G-Force” is found in numerous shops all around Disneyland Paris, in particular the Disney Store in the Disney Village, the Disney Hollywood Store and Studio 1 in Walt Disney Studios and Emporium in the Disneyland Park but also in other shops; in fact there is more G-Force merchandise than merchandise for UP. Plus the G-Force merchandise is placed more prominently then the new UP movie is.

G-Force MerchandiseCould it be that the cuddly factor makes the big difference here?

G-Force is a Jerry Bruckheimer produced Disney feature starring computer animated guinea pigs saving the world (the first movie for Bruckheimer starring computer animated characters in the lead parts).

G-Force MerchandiseG-Force has also an exclusive for Disneyland Paris. The “I was born ready” T-shirt can only be bought at the Paris resort. Next to the T-Shirt there are the action figure toys for the boys and the more cuddly plush for the little once and the girls.

G-Force MerchandiseWith UP getting rave reviews more collectibles might find its way into the shops, but even if the characters are likable it will not be easy to beat the possibilities G-Force has in merchandise and its bigger market appeal. However, even with their nice display and choice, G-Force might not be able to brake the Cars merchandise success. Cars premiered in 2006 and merchandise of this Disney/Pixar feature is still going very strong at all Disney shops around the globe.

Pins Going to the Back

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Hollywood Pictures Pin TradingAt the Hollywood Pictures Shop in the Disney Village pins used to have a very nice corner just for themselfs. They where displayed on a nice sized wall at the left hand entrance of the shop. Character pins, attraction pins, hotel pins and many other themed pins. There was also a selection of lanyards and bags to choose from.

At the side of the wall was a little table where pin traders could show of their collection and start trading for pins still missing from that collection. Unfortunately the pin trading corner slowly but surly got deserted over time as most pin traders would meet inside the park and trading at the Hollywood Pictures store got absolute.

Hollywood Pictures Pin TradingThe pins are now pushed further back inside the shop where they are displayed on a smaller rack. Bags and lanyards are still on display too but the choice of pins did shrink. The limited pins are on display inside a small plastic cube. The display is a nice feature and looks very nice and inviting to guest.

However, the move to a smaller section inside the store might be an indication that the popularity of the pins are not as big as it used to be.

Big Boys Toys Arrived!

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Toy Story Playland ConstructionInside the Walt Disney Studios work on the new Toy Story Playland area has started. The “big toys” is rolling in to prepare the land for its new inhabitants from the Toy Story gang. A big yellow crane is spotted just behind the Toy Story decorated fence that encloses the area.

Toy Story Playland ConstructionThe fence is covered with a big Toy Story scene where Buzz and his famous friends are doing the best they can to try and hide the work for the guests in the best possible way.

However, peaking trough the fence reveals groundbreaking work is taking place.  The area is being prepared for the new kiddie (and Toy Story Playland Constructionthose young at heart) attractions.

But it will be a while before the new land is ready and until that time it’s the “big boys” that will be able to play with the big toys to get the attractions into place.

Bottles and Cans

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Separate Trash Cans 01The mountain of rubbished produced during one day at Disneyland Paris is, obviously, of uncanny proportions. To help the environment, recycling is therefor very important. At Disneyland Paris new trash cans are being tested to help this cause. Over at the Walt Disney Studios new trash cans for bottles and cans have been put into place in different location. With these set into place bottles and cans can be separated from other trash making recycling just that little bit easier.

Separate Trash Cans 02At this time three where counted but more should find their way into the park. Afterwards one can expect the Disneyland park to follow soon. These new trash cans can only work as long as people use them correctly. So it is now up to the guest to help Disney to not only make sure trash gets thrown away in the correct trash cans, but that bottles and cans find their way into their own trash cans.

Premium Fastpass

A new Fastpass has been tested at the Disneyland Paris. Guests who didn’t want to, or don’t like to queue had the possibility to obtain a Premium Fastpass for a “small” price of 80 Euro. In return the Premium Fastpass would offer an unlimited entrance to all attractions with Fastpass system. The Premium Fastpass was available at the Disneyland Hotel concierge and the New York Hotel concierge. The offer was in a test phase, one that was planned to end August 18th.

The offer has not been stopped yet as Premium Passes where still available after the initial end date. Both the Disneyland Hotel and the New York Hotel concierge had boards up, offering the Fastpasses to the guests during this extended test phase.

If successful, it is to be expected that Disney will keep the Premium Fastpass as an ongoing option.

Annual Passport Office self service kiosk 01

The annual Passport has been very successful over the years. If you bought or had to renew your passport long queues at the Annual Passport office where proof of that. On some days the queue curled all the way outside of the office, straight into Discoveryland. A new feature at Disneyland Paris annual passport office are self service kiosk. With the new kiosks guest will be able to enter all the information needed to create their own annual passports. This might take away some of the waiting time pressure. That is if the kiosks are easy to use.

You can find the kiosks at the far end (seen from the entrance) on the lower level and right in front of the windows. Currently the kiosks are closed but the are prepared with a camera and a printer so guest can make their own Annual Passport. At this time there are no indications or signs yet to inform the guests about this new feature.

Christmas overtaking Halloween

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Christmas Merchandise 2009The Disney Theme Parks worldwide are known to celebrate a great Halloween party. Every Disney park in the world offers a lot of extras during this “not so scary” part of the year. Accompanied with the festivities the parks also have a lot of Halloween merchandise for sale. If you visit the Mousekingdom Blog you can already see a collection of merchandise that went on sale during the last week of August inside the Walt Disney World stores.

Christmas Merchandise 2009At Disneyland Resort Paris the Halloween season seems to be forgotten, at least in the shops. While we can expect the regular annual park decorations very soon, shop shelfs are missing any early Halloween collectibles. Instead of Halloween various shops have started to put up a lot of Christmas merchandise instead. While during the year most of the Christmas stuff can only be found at the “La Boutique du Chateau”, the shop inside the sleeping Beauty Castle, Christmas stuff can now be picked up at many of the other resort shops. It looks like Christmas has overtaken the Halloween season. (more…)

New decorations have been added for both franchises.

You’ll see the new decoration at the left hand side when you enter the shop. On the wall you’ll see big panels related to the two movies. Together with the new decors comes a wide selection of their merchandise. T-Shirts, hats, bags, figures, collectibles and more. All you need to do is pick a side!

Feeling Grumpy

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Grumpy ShirtDo you feel a little Grumpy sometimes? You’re not the only one. How else can you explain the  popularity of Grumpy merchandise at the Disney Parks. There are cups, mugs, pins, T-shirts and a whole lot more to be found of this popular Snow White dwarf.

It’s no surprise to see him appear on new park merchandise on a regular basis. Spotted in the shop is yet another new Grumpy item. This time Grumpy shows his best side on a hoody, marching forwards with his natural “I mean business” look.
