Giant Mickey

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Are you looking for that very special christmas gift for a true Mickey Mouse fan? Or do you need something to adorne the entrance hall of your villa? No need to think about the price of the item? Than you should drop by the Gallery Mickey shop located on the first floor of the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Paris!

A huge Mickey Mouse figurine limited to just 250 copies has been put on sale here at the price of EUR 3,500. However, the limited figurine is really a giant one. The photo on the left shows the shop window that reaches from the floor all the way to the top of the doors – just to give you a reference for the figurines height. As the size would make it rather difficult to transport the figurine back home for guests shipping is available depending on the destination at EUR 149.50 in France, EUR 299.00 in Europe respectively starting at EUR 1,200.00 by airfreight to other international destinations.

Best Halloween Decoration 2011

Friday, November 4th, 2011

During the Halloween season 2011 many guests of Disneyland Paris were rather surprised by the scope of Halloween decorations in the Disneyland Park – or rather the lack of these decorations. Where in the past the whole main Street, U.S.A. was taken over by the pumpkin men and Frontierland was transformed into Halloweenland the decorations were far and in between this year. In addition to the Halloween set on the Castle Stage, some pumpkins on Town Square and Central Plaza only the entrances to some selected shops as well as the selected displays in these shops featured (limited) decorations. The immediate result: a significant number of complaints were filed about the lack of decorations with the cast members at City Hall.

Unfortunately the majority of guests missed the most impressive Halloween decorations of the seasons, as only the guests of the Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show got treated to those. When entering the pre-show area the decorations started rather subtle with some spider’ webs, while around the next corner a complete cemetery had been set up. Guests had to wlak through the spooky atmosphere, right across the cemetery with tombs (including one of a certain „Van Helsing“) while like large spiders sat in the corners and bats hang in the trees. Once guests had found their way through this spooky set complete with mystic fogs and strange lighting guests found a photo set with a witch’s cauldron and a stone throne.

To further improve the Halloween atmosphere selected cast members in the pre-show area as well as some of the indians and rodeo clowns in the show featured creepy make up. In the show itself the Headless Horseman featured as a special guests in one scene.

Soldes

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

It might be high season and the most expensive time to book any holiday, but it’s also sales season and will your holiday might cost you a little more you can catch some great deals in the Disney shops. All over the resort Disney items are sold with a nice discount. You will find deals in the Disneyland Park, the Walt Disney Studios and in the Disney Village. From T-Shirts to toys, from Figurines to key chains, there is something for everyone.

It might be the last lots, discontinued items or left overs from previous seasons, but the sales are a fun extra where you can find something a little cheaper to take home as a nice memory from the Disneyland trip.

Batman in the Rainforest

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Currently the attention is mostly centered around the exterior of the Rainforest Cafe. Afterall in course of the construction of its new neighbor – the Earl of Sandwich restaurant – the upper, un-themed half of the building’s wall facing toward the Earl of Sandwich got a new blue paint job (click here for our latest construction progress report) and the two giant mushrooms of the Rainforest Cafe that would now have ended up in front of the Earl of Sandwich were taken out (and no, they didn’t add any discounted mushroom items to the menu at the Rainforest Cafe).

However, a look into the Rainforest Cafe might be interesting as well, in particular into it’s shop. While not the most recent development it is still notable that the space dedicated to the shop has been significantly reduced since opening day. Those parts that are no longer part of the shop have been re-purposed as additional seating. To this purpose an additional rock wall has been set up to function as a barrier and the cashier counter has been moved forward. The thereby created additional seating area can be seen in the photo on the right.

However, there is more to see in the Rainforest Cafe – and this time it is a rather surprising news … the addition of t-shorts featuring comic and cartoon characters / designs neither inspired by Disney nor by Marvel properties! As can be seen in the photo on one of the recent visits there were Batman and Superman t-shirts (both DC Comics characters) available as well as a t-shirt appealing to the younger European guests featuring Willy from “Maya the Bee” (the German book, comic book and animated tv series “Biene Maya”). While one might argue for a connection between Maya the Bee and the ecological message that the Rainforest Cafe often propagates there really is no connection to the Batman and the Superman characters.

Captain EO Merchandise

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Michael Jackson has been entertaining guests of Disneyland Paris in Discoveryland now for a bit more than 10 months in the 3D movie musical / space extravaganza / space themed meag video clip “Captain EO” and it has turned rather calm around this attraction at least among the fans - mind you not inside the theater were the high energy music still continues to rock the guests.

Even so the hoped for long lines never materialized at the attraction it seems those that do come and take flight with Captain EO must still feel entertained enough – or be huge fans of Michael Jackson. Otherwise it could not be explained that early last winter the merchandise selection for Captain EO got a major boost and several new items showed up at Star Traders:

There is the Captain EO jacket (with the Captain EO logo on the front), several t-shirts (including one with the design as worn by Michael Jackson in one scene of the movie) as well as … and that had been hoped for by many fans according to posts on online boards in early 2010 … new plush!

Available are the two members of Captain EO’s crew which lend themselves best for a re-incarnation as plush – Hooter (that is the crew member with the trunk, wearing a muscle shirt) and Fuzzball (the furry one with the wings and long tail). Still missing from the original collection of plush offered at Disneyland Anaheim during the initial run of the 3D movie is the plush of the two-headed navigator of Captain EO’s spaceship, Idey and Ody.

Hungry for Popcorn?

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Popcorn – it used to be “sweet” or “salty” weren’t the only two options for this beloved snack at Disneyland Paris. But after a test run last summer and fall alternatively flavored popcorn is back at the Disneyland Park! We sure know someone who would have loved it – anyone still remember the family and their son’s friend from the first Disneyland Paris souvenir video sold at the park?

Above pictured popcorn cart is located in Fantasyland and offers “coconut” flavor, while the popcorn cart on the right can be found in Thunder Mesa (straight ahead when entering Frontierland through the fort). In the wild west setting the special flavor offered is “gingerbread”. With now four flavors (or are there more? Let us know if you come across additional flavors in the resort!) which one is your preferred flavor?

Also note the new popcorn bucket available at the Fantasyland cart with coconut flavored popcorn. The new design is sure to excite all Mickey Mouse fans.

Tron Toys on the Shelves

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

The new Tron Legacy has found its way inside the Disneyland Paris shops. The new “toys for boys” will make both youngsters, who had their first Tron fix with the new Legacy movie, and fans from the old movie heart skip a beat. There are fantastic looking action figures based on the characters of the movie. Also available are small and big vehicles from the film that can be added to a Tron collection, including the awesome Light Cycle. Both the action figures and vehicles are displayed inside great looking packaging that can be found at various shops throughout the resort and even at selected merchandise carts in the parks. Everything Goofy – even the prices!

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Over the last years the resort has considerably changed its merchandising policy. In the meantime new products are rolled out more or less constantly year-round. This also means that most of the times there are some products to be discontinued and therefore offered at a discounted price – a great way for guests to reduce the costs for souvenirs a bit.

While “sales” and “special offer” signs were set up at the according merchandise displays the goods themselves - if at all – received only a rather simple additional red “special offer” tag. This seems to have changed as recently round red extra tags were spotted featuring Goofy and the bilingual statement “Goofy Price” and “Prix Dingo” – which in English respectively French is a common description for prices so low that they are already a little bit crazy or … well … goofy!

May the Ohana be with you…

As many star Wars fans have bemoaned the new “Star Tours” attraction has not (yet) been announced for Disneyland Paris and will premiere exclusively at Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort Anaheim only this spring. Instead, for the time being the original Star Tours will continue to take guest in Discoveryland on what is supposed to be a space trip to Endor – as the attraction has dutefuly since the park opened its doors in 1992. However, Star Wars fans nevertheless have a reason to delight. Not only have Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers as well as Chewbacca returned since last year to the parks (posing for photos and autographs regularly in Discoveryland in the proximity of the Star Tours space port). In addition more and more new Star wars related merchandise is arriving the parks as well (more…)

Get Tangeled at Disneyland Paris

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

“Disney Tangled” – the 50th full length animated classic by the Walt Disney Studios – has made its big screen debut around Europe and as usual it has made its debut at Disneyland Paris as well. I.e. Rapunzel and Flynn are available for meet’n'greets at the Royal Castle Stage daily since the start of the Christmas season. Certainly the resort did also welcome the latest characters into the resort’s shops… (more…)
