Victoria’s New Menu

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Victoria’s Home – Style Restaurant is a (by many guests) overlooked alternative to grab a small snack or sit down for a full lunch / dinner. Sure, seating is limited indoors and outdoors but it features a unique atmosphere. Its three rooms offer a unique private feeling while the outdoor seating in the gardens between Gibson’s Girls and Central Plaza on bright sunny days allow guests to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the Main Street, U.S.A. with their food (and maybe even catch a glimpse of any show taking place on Central Plaza). Also their is a limited amount of additonal covered seating available in the Discovery Arcade.

Its location off to the side between Gibson’s Girls and the Plaza Gardens Restaurant is maybe one of the contributing reasons for the restaurant often being overlooked. While the drinks and bakery items on the menu are a staple in the meantime, the warm lunch / dinner options have seen numerous menu changes over the years in an attempt to make it more interesting to guests. Most lately the restaurant was offering pizzas – which are also available in various other locations throughout the Disneyland Park … time for another menu change!

The latest menu now offers “bruschetta” / toast in three different variations all coming with a side salad. With this latest menu Victoria’s sets itself further apart from other restaurants adding a new flavor to the restaurant offerings of the Disneyland Park.

Best Halloween Decoration 2011

Friday, November 4th, 2011

During the Halloween season 2011 many guests of Disneyland Paris were rather surprised by the scope of Halloween decorations in the Disneyland Park – or rather the lack of these decorations. Where in the past the whole main Street, U.S.A. was taken over by the pumpkin men and Frontierland was transformed into Halloweenland the decorations were far and in between this year. In addition to the Halloween set on the Castle Stage, some pumpkins on Town Square and Central Plaza only the entrances to some selected shops as well as the selected displays in these shops featured (limited) decorations. The immediate result: a significant number of complaints were filed about the lack of decorations with the cast members at City Hall.

Unfortunately the majority of guests missed the most impressive Halloween decorations of the seasons, as only the guests of the Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show got treated to those. When entering the pre-show area the decorations started rather subtle with some spider’ webs, while around the next corner a complete cemetery had been set up. Guests had to wlak through the spooky atmosphere, right across the cemetery with tombs (including one of a certain „Van Helsing“) while like large spiders sat in the corners and bats hang in the trees. Once guests had found their way through this spooky set complete with mystic fogs and strange lighting guests found a photo set with a witch’s cauldron and a stone throne.

To further improve the Halloween atmosphere selected cast members in the pre-show area as well as some of the indians and rodeo clowns in the show featured creepy make up. In the show itself the Headless Horseman featured as a special guests in one scene.

Rehab Update from Main Street, U.S.A.

Monday, May 30th, 2011

20110529-225507.jpg
20110529-225447.jpgAnother rehab has come to its conclusion on the Main Street – Disney & Co. the shop specializing in toys and plush has reopened after its extensive refurbishment. Not only was the flooring redone and the whole interior of the shop with its detail rich design repainted so that it shines in bright colors once again – in addition the shop’s main room recieved a major change to its layout. As reported before the rehab the (working !) organ as the room’s centerpiece (around wish the cashiers were located) has been removed opening up more space for guests and merchandise as the cashiers were moved to the far ends of the shop. While the loss of the organ (that has been rumored to be on the move to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom) is to be mourned the new layout has helped ease the nearly eternal congestion inside the popular shop. With Disney & Co. being back to full regular operations Lilly’s Boutique next door has returned to showcase its “regular” merchandise as well after offering shelter to some toys and plush during the rehab of the shop next doors.

There is also news to report from the rehab across the street of the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour – here the scaffolding was covered with a printed tarp during the past week to reduce the impact on guest experience.

New temporary facade for Walt’s

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

20110514-002528.jpg
20110514-002547.jpgAs reported the extensive refurbishment of the exterior facade of Walt’s on the Main Streeted started about three weeks ago – i.e. the facade disappeared behind Scaffolding reaching all the way up to the highest point of the roofline. While a temporary sign was added above the entrance to make sure guests are aware, that the restaurant remains open for business, it took a bit longer to cover the white tarps with tarps showing a printed replica of the original building’s facade.

However, on May 13, 2011 they finally were installed, making the whole refurbishment project less obvious and intrusive for guests walking down Main Street U.S.A. The painted tarps have become a trademark feature of Disneyland Paris which is in the meantime also emulated in the US Disney resorts. Their effect of reducing the intrusion of the rehabs into the themed environment is particularly important in years like 2011 when the number and the scope of rehabs exceeds the usual amount by far – in this case due to the preparation for next year’s anniversary.

Gibson Girl’s Scaffolding

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

InsideDLParis has provided another photo to show off the progress which the rehab at The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour has made in just a couple of days. Where earlier this week the scaffolding topped out at the balcony of the building’s first floor it has now grown all the way up to the the reclining roof, covering all of said first floor and its balcony.

While the ice cream parlour remains open it is interesting to note that no sign has been set up above the entrances informing guests of its presents – as was done for Walt’s. It needs to be awaited whether such sign might be added sometime soon.

Even more scaffolding

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour at the top of the Main Street of Disneyland Paris is the latest building to join the ever growing list of refurbishment projects. With the facade of Walt’s An American Restaurant already hidden behind scaffolding this is now the second building along the Main Street in a prominent position that disappears behind scaffolding and white tarps for a repainting of its facade. However, while the facade of Walt’s is already hidden by scaffolding all the way up to it’s highest point, the scaffolding at Gibson Girl – at least by Wednesday May, 4th as seen in the photo by InsideDLParis – only covers the ground level and the balcony of the first floor.

As is the case with Walt’s also Gibson Girl will also continue to operate during the refurbishment of its facade.

Magical Moments – everywhere

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

The Magical Moments Festival has taken over Disneyland Paris – and in case a guest might not have checked out the official website or one of the many unofficial ones (such as DLP.info) before visiting … well there is signage all over the place. Whether it is above the moving walkways leading from the theme parks parking lot to the entrance place, in front of the entrance gates to Fantasia Gardens or in the Fantasia Gardens – just as in the past years.

The signs and posters that have been placed all over the resort are a mix of generic festival motives and those advertising specific offers that are part of the festival. The one above for example advertises the new stage on Central Plaza. The photo to the right on the other hand shows the “generic” festival banner aus used amonst others on the lighting poles in Fantasia Gardens.

Once guests have crossed through the turnstiles of the Disneyland Park they are greeted with a large “Welcome” signage for the festival that has been installed on the balcony of the Main Street Station facing toward the Disneyland Hotel and thus onto the entrance plaza.

After last year’s combination of a sign with three dimensional characters for the New Generation Festival this year’s decoration for once is limited again to a “simple” sign featuring Mickey as the sorcerer’s apprentice.

Hungry for Popcorn?

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Popcorn – it used to be “sweet” or “salty” weren’t the only two options for this beloved snack at Disneyland Paris. But after a test run last summer and fall alternatively flavored popcorn is back at the Disneyland Park! We sure know someone who would have loved it – anyone still remember the family and their son’s friend from the first Disneyland Paris souvenir video sold at the park?

Above pictured popcorn cart is located in Fantasyland and offers “coconut” flavor, while the popcorn cart on the right can be found in Thunder Mesa (straight ahead when entering Frontierland through the fort). In the wild west setting the special flavor offered is “gingerbread”. With now four flavors (or are there more? Let us know if you come across additional flavors in the resort!) which one is your preferred flavor?

Also note the new popcorn bucket available at the Fantasyland cart with coconut flavored popcorn. The new design is sure to excite all Mickey Mouse fans.

Luxury Dining Behind Scaffolding

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

As the VIPs and press invited for the official kick-off of this year’s Magical Moments Festival have gone for some time the resort continues its program of major rehabs at full force. The latest addition to the rehab list has seen extensive scaffolding going up around the complete facade of “Walt’s – An American Restaurant” on Main Street U.S.A.

As can be seen in the photo on the right currently the scaffolding is only hidden behind a white tarp, but based on past experiences with similar rehab projects on facades of the Main Street buildings a painted / printed tarp should be going up soon so better to hide the work / less impacting the photos taken by guests on the Main Street. Good Morning Main Street, U.S.A.

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

As the upcoming Disney Magical Moments Festival is prepared the popular Disney Character Express has been retired already as it will be transformed into the new experience of the ”Disney Dance Express” (click here for a video of a complete preview performance). However, as the meet’n'greets with the Disney Characters on Central Plaza are always very popular a temporary replacement is now filling the gap between the Disney Character Express and the Disney Dance Express: the Disney Character Calvacade!
