Small Improvements

Big Thunder Mountain Fastpass Waiting QueueOne of the most congested areas in all of Disneyland Paris on most days is the walkway right in front of the entrance to Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland. With the addition of the FastPass machines next to it this congestion in the past years became even worse, as guests debatting whether to enter the regular stand-by line for the attraction were joined by the crowds forming around the entrance to the FastPass machines to obtain their FastPass tickets to bypass the long lines for the ride on run-away-mine-train. But a small change realized at the beginning of this year’s summer season has allevated the situation considerably. With a rope the entrance to the FastPass distributing machines has been re-routed, resulting in the queue for the machines not to extent toward the attractions regular entrance but into the opposite direction. Walt Disney at Phantom Manor

1902 Walt DisneyAs has been covered already on the Mousekingdom Blog The Walt Disney Family Museum will open coming October in San Francisco, California, giving guests a unique look at the man who started it all – Walt Disney. Housed in three historic building specifically redesigned and upgraded to state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of the Presidio (part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area of the National Park Service) the museum will display more than1,600 drawings, works of art and other items telling the story of Walt’s life, from his childhood days in Marceline, Missouri all the way to the top of the world of Hollywood, certainly also covering his contributions that helped revolutionize animation and forever changed the film industry and family entertainment.

Where the museum plans to set itself apart from many exhibitions and works in other media covering Walt Disney is by telling “the story of the man behind the myth in Disney’ own voice and in exhibits that reveal his expansive vision, from early drawings of some of his most popular characters to plans for Disneyland and EPCOT” … and certainly by way of the unique items on display. To increase anticipation of the museum’s opening a weekly press release featuring a unique look into different galleries and exhibits of the museum has been launched. If you are interested check out the Mousekingdom Blog for the first installment (and certainly the following installments). That first sneak peek covers the very first gallery to be encountered in the museum which covers the very early year of Walt’s life from 1901 to 1923.

As interesting as the man and the myth Walt Disney is and as relevant as he certainly is to Disneyland Resort Paris one could wonder why this post here in the DLP.info News & Rumors  Blog – just because the resort is paying tribute to Walt Disney itself in “Walt’s – An American Restaurant” and to some degrees inside Lilly’s the boutique next door named for his wife?

No, the reason is actually the photo illustrating this article that was provided by the museum as part of the first sneak peek into the gallery of Walt’s early years. But where is the connection of that photo to the Disneyland Resort Paris? Need a hint? Take a look at the title of the post again - really (more…)

Opening Times Summer 2009 - Indiana JonesYes, it is summer high season for the Disneyland Resort Paris from early July to late August, yes the parks are busy and yes, the Disneyland Park has extended operating hours and features additional entertainment such as Goofy’s Summer Camp, Disney’s Fantillusion and in particular the Enchanted Fireworks to bring the day to a majestic finale in the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle. But guests could be excused for believing that they are in the Disneyland Park on a slow off-season day thanks to additional signs posted on the entrances to various attractions – minor and major ones such as Phantom Manor – that inform about staggered operating hours, i.e. certain attractions opening later than the park and / or closing earlier.  (more…)

Goofy’s Summer Camp cutting costs? And more about the summer entertainment!

Disney Character ExpressThe first weekend of the summer season has been managed at the Disneyland Resort Paris (or Disneyland Paris as it now states on the updated website) … and there have been at least two surprises already. The first one: “Good Morning Main Street, U.S.A.” – the happening to start the day has been revived and is now scheduled for daily performances at 10.15 am  on Central Plaza!

Minnie's Party TrainThis calvacade was part of the original entertainment in the opening year of 1992 but had been discontinued, even so it saw short lived revivals, such as earlier this year with the Disney Character Express received its make-over to become “Minnie’s Party Train”. In 1992 the calvacade consisted of the Main Street Vehicles, on board of which various Disney character drove along the Main Street, while even more characters and dancers in turn of the century costumes danced down the Main Street. In addition cast members of the shops came out on the side walk waving signs announcing “Good Morning” in various languages. For the 2009 version of “Good Morning Main Street, U.S.A.” the Disneyland Park reuses the original catchy soundtrack, also the Disney characters on the Main Street Vehicles and walking along are still there. However, the dancers in period costumes haven’t made it back and neither have the cast members waving their signs on the side walk. Still guests reacted very positively to the new addition, in particular since the calvacade stops on Central Plaza (where “Dancin’ A Catch Rhythm” is then played) to allow for a meet’n'greet with the characters before returning down Main Street.

The second surprise? (more…)

Getting Ready…

Old Mill… for the summer season does not only mean, that the entertainment department is busy with the final preparations, gardening crews are bustling even more busy than normally and the final attraction closures for last minute rehabs are organized. In addition there are numerous smaller (and not so small) rehabs and construction projects in particular spread over the Disneyland Park to sprouce up everything.

In Adventureland the rehab of the Café de la Brousse, we reported earlier this week, has now been joint by a (more…)

A Battle of animated stars: Goofy vs. Tarzan

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

TarzanOnce the final performance of “Tarzan, the show” in Frontierland’s Chaparral Theater on the final day of the summer season 2008 had closed rumors sprang up that with that performance the show had actually been closed for good. The fact that the extra good-bye performance of the cast was way more elaborate than in the past – including even streamers being shot out – was one of the indicators cited by fans. With the spring season these rumors become more substantial but till today the resort has not officially stated that Tarzan will not return – even so all statements on the various fan boards online – including those by cast members – do indicate that Tarzan closed after 7 years. So the logic question was: (more…)
