Join Alice for an Adventure

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Annual Passportholders are invited by Disneyland Paris and the Gaumont multiplex cinema at the Disney Village to join Alice for her latest adventure as envisioned by Tim Burton. Today is the second (and final day) at which all Annual Passport holders may enjoy the latest Disney feature by Tim Burton “Alice in Wonderland” aka “Alice au Pays des Merveilles” in 3D on the big IMAX screen in the Disney Village for just 5,90 EUR per person. If that is too short of a notice you may want to take note that as of tomorrow April 28 till May 4 the Gaumont cinemas offer a special priced tickets at 3,90 EUR to AP holders for the screening of the movie on the non-IMAX screens of the multiplex in the Disney Village. And after the movie experience, why not join Alice at the Disneyland Park, where her Curious Labyrinth as well as the March Hare Refreshment and the Mad Hatter’s Teacups await guests – even so these experiences are based on the beloved classic animated Alice feature by Walt Disney. No Tea for You!

Spring time in Disneyland Paris is always also time for outdoor construction and rehabs. As the cold leaves and the sun comes out the crews are swarming out over the whole resort to bring it back into shape and in particular tackle all the dmage that the winter’s freezing may have caused. So for frequent guests it is no surprise to find construction going all over.

One of the most common work to be spotted right now is repaving of the walkways in the Disneyland Park. Shown in the photo on the right is such work in Adventureland in the area between the ATM and the bridge leading to three house / Adventure Isle. Over in Fantasyland construction has resulted in the closure of an attraction… (more…)

Entertainment Rumors Summed Up (updated)

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Over the years the various entertainment offerings in both theme parks at Disneyland Paris have been closely scrutinized by fans, a considerable group of whom in the recent years became more and more vocal. Subject of the criticism were in particular the limited amount of entertainment offered outside high season, the sometime as stale or not popular enough perceived offerings and what can only be seen as waste of money by the entertainment team in the form of ordering the construction of a major stage on Central Plaza, when other stages sit mostly unused.

With the “New Generation Festival” starting in April 2010 for both theme parks and the heavy emphasize that the resort itself put on the entertainment offerings the rumor mills started turning fast again and then jumping into overdrive when suddenly reports about the pre-opening cancellation of a small happening planned for the Walt Disney Studios Park surfaced during the past weekend. Unfortunately that is not the only bad report / rumor coming out of the resort for the entertainment offerings … time for a “rumor sum up”! (more…)

Mulled Wine at Disneyland Paris

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

For the second year Disneyland Paris features kind of three christmas markets: the most obvious one is the already traditional Disney Village christmas market located between the Disney Village, the entrace to the Walt Disney Studios Park and the main exit from Fantasia Gardens for guests of the Disneyland Park (as covered in detail in the recent weeks). The second one is Belle’s Christmas Village located in the Disneyland Park, to be more specific in Fantasyland around the Old Mill. The third and final one is a small collection of wooden huts located on Production Courtyard. For its second year the huts have been painted white and adorned with christmas garlands. This market is dubbed “Christmas Lane” as it is stretched out around the outer rim of the courtyard. (more…)

The Dining Capacity In Winter

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The past busy summer season in both theme parks of Disneyland Paris saw the usual crowds descending on the restaurants during the core lunch and dinner hours. And even so the capacity in the table service restaurants of the Disneyland Park on most days was sufficient (and guests rarely had to be turned away), lines in the counter service and buffet locations were considerable and at times lengthy. In the Studios the influx as usually was handled by the numerous outdoor vending cars and in particular the seating in the La Terrasse area in front of the Tower of Terror. The Disneyland Park reacted not only by operating all restaurants with daily schedules for most of the summer but also by adding extra outdoor areas… (more…)

Construction Update

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Under ConstructionWith the official end of the summer season past Sunday the work crews have returned to the Disneyland Park in full force – after a 1 1/2 month break, considering that some projects started in late spring actually finished only during high season. So which projects are currently in progress?

On Main Street, U.S.A., not a single major project is underway – but painters are busy touching up the facades in various changing locations every day. Construction Work Last Chance CafeHowever, once guests turn into Frontierland they will encounter the first major project: The Last Chance Cafe – the only project that is already underway since early August. In the meantime the construction walls not only block access to the counter service restaurant and its terrace but have extended to also block of the planters that separate that terrace from the patio of the Lucky Nugget Saloon next doors. So far the signage of The Last Chance Cafe seems to have been taken off the building’s facade – but the real news are the wooden structures on the former terrace! (more…)

Sorry… we are closed / not yet open

Opening Times Summer 2009 - Indiana JonesYes, it is summer high season for the Disneyland Resort Paris from early July to late August, yes the parks are busy and yes, the Disneyland Park has extended operating hours and features additional entertainment such as Goofy’s Summer Camp, Disney’s Fantillusion and in particular the Enchanted Fireworks to bring the day to a majestic finale in the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle. But guests could be excused for believing that they are in the Disneyland Park on a slow off-season day thanks to additional signs posted on the entrances to various attractions – minor and major ones such as Phantom Manor – that inform about staggered operating hours, i.e. certain attractions opening later than the park and / or closing earlier.  (more…)

Goofy’s Summer Camp cutting costs? And more about the summer entertainment!

Disney Character ExpressThe first weekend of the summer season has been managed at the Disneyland Resort Paris (or Disneyland Paris as it now states on the updated website) … and there have been at least two surprises already. The first one: “Good Morning Main Street, U.S.A.” – the happening to start the day has been revived and is now scheduled for daily performances at 10.15 am  on Central Plaza!

Minnie's Party TrainThis calvacade was part of the original entertainment in the opening year of 1992 but had been discontinued, even so it saw short lived revivals, such as earlier this year with the Disney Character Express received its make-over to become “Minnie’s Party Train”. In 1992 the calvacade consisted of the Main Street Vehicles, on board of which various Disney character drove along the Main Street, while even more characters and dancers in turn of the century costumes danced down the Main Street. In addition cast members of the shops came out on the side walk waving signs announcing “Good Morning” in various languages. For the 2009 version of “Good Morning Main Street, U.S.A.” the Disneyland Park reuses the original catchy soundtrack, also the Disney characters on the Main Street Vehicles and walking along are still there. However, the dancers in period costumes haven’t made it back and neither have the cast members waving their signs on the side walk. Still guests reacted very positively to the new addition, in particular since the calvacade stops on Central Plaza (where “Dancin’ A Catch Rhythm” is then played) to allow for a meet’n'greet with the characters before returning down Main Street.

The second surprise? (more…)

Smile – you are on camera!

Camera Sir Mickeys 0906Since the first day of previews in early 1992 the Disneyland Park at Disneyland Resort Paris could pride itself with its security. While regular guests will rarely notice the security cast members once they have passed the initial bag check at the entrance to Fantasia Gardens, security (as well as health and fire rescure teams if necessary) are always ready to show up on short notice if needed. Differing from many other theme parks the resort never attempted a strategy of deterrence inside its theme parks. This even included the fact that there were rarely any security cameras on sight guests could have easily spotted – which was not only due to the fact that most cameras were placed far outside the sight lines of most guests and very well hidden / integrated into the themeing.
