Normally one might expect that a construction site would be the busiest during the summer months when good weather conditions can be expected. However, the construction site for the future “Earl of Sandwich” restaurant in the Disney Village next to the Rainforest Cafe is currently a rather calm spot. (more…)

Sunday, August 15th, 2010
The new Earl of Sandwich at the Disney Village in Disneyland Paris is ready for the next stage. Hidden behind the fence part of the water feature has been sealed of and new ground has filled the hole. The base for the new building next to the Rainforest Cafe is now ready for the next phase. Guests going to the parks or Village can only take the path next to Mickey’s Cafe, leading right into the village.
The bridge that got you behind the Rainforest Cafe and towards the Magic M (Better known as McDonald’s) remains completely closed for everybody. Still a long way to go before the official opening in 2011. (more…)
The Earl has been spotted!
Friday, July 16th, 2010John Montagu, 11th Earl of Sandwich has been spotted in the Disney Village earlier today for the official stone laying ceremony for the very first Earl of Sandwich Restaurant in Europe. Disneyland Paris released a photo of the ceremony earlier today on the resort’s official twitter account. The photo shows John Montagu, 11th Earl of Sandwich, and Philippe Gas, president of EuroDisney S.A.S., holding to comic-style shovels, while Mickey Mouse and a person in a medieval court costume look on. The background behind the group is also worth a look as ti shows a part of the lake’s sidearm that has been filled in already for the restaurant’s future footprint.
An Earl Under Construction
Monday, June 28th, 2010
As reported earlier spring 2011 should see the opening of a new restaurant at the Disney Village: the first location of the Earl of Sandwich chain in Europe. The new restaurant will not take over any previously occupied spot. Instead a new two level building with indoor and outdoor seating will be constructed next to the Rainforest Cafe (roughly in the area that was occupied partially by the carousel till late 2009). Preparational work of the area started several weeks ago and the first progress is visible – so time for an update … (more…)
The Signs are up
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010As reported on Monday non-temporary construction fences have been errected between the Rainforest Cafe and Lake Disney, also blocking the bridge leading toward the Disney Village Dome. While it was only an assumption at that point that behind these walls construction work for the first European location of the Earl of Sandwich restaurant chain would commence, confirmation has now arrived.
Fansite Disney Central Plaza posted a snapshot to their Facebook page showing signage by Earl of Sandwich that has been added to the construction fence. The sign also features the first indicator for the opening … which will not be in 2010, as had been hoped for by many fans when the rumors got more substantial last December, but only in 2011. However, it has to be considered that in a first step a part of the side arm of Lake Disney will have to be filled in.
Culinary Construction Sites
Monday, April 26th, 2010Guests currently visiting the Disney Village will find its lower end toward Lake Disney in a state of construction with currently two groups of construction fences close to each other.
Coming from the Disney Hotels respectively Lake Disney a new construcion fence is going up blocking the access to the bridge leading across the little side arm of the lake from the open space next to the Rainforest Cafe to the entrance of the former parking lot, now home to the convention tent next to the Disney Village Dome. Speaking of the convention tent: it was a bare steel skeleton a couple of weeks ago, but now the tent fabric is beeing re-added, with the rear section already having received the wall and top fabric and only the front segment still a bare steel skeleton. However, back to the construction fence. It not only blocks access to the bridge from the side of the former parking lot but has also been errected along the full length of the bridge, so that guests can’t look onto / across the bridge from the lake. In addition the construction fence blocks off the area from the bridge to the Rainforest Cafe, which was used till last year for a carousel, leading up all the way to the walls of the building. In fact it even blocks off the side-entrance to the Rainforest Cafe. (more…)

According to the latest word of mouth Earl of Sandwich is to grace Disneyland Paris with his presence – ups, sorry, that has to read: it’s presence, after all we are talking about the Earl of Sandwich restaurant chain. The Earl of Sandwich is a franchise based counter service restaurant chain in the USA offering soups, warm sandwiches, snacks as well as breakfast as a competitor amongst others to the Subway chain. Disney fans may know Earl of Sandwich from its location in Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World, Florida.
The chain’s arrival to the Disney Village had been predicted repeatedly in the past, but only now there seem to be some serious indicators that the project will actually move forward. Postinio posted on the Mousekingdom Forum concept drawings and a blue print for a new building to house the restaurant. (more…)
