Despite various offers (such as heavily discounted rooms for Annual Passport holders) the Disney Hotels at Disneyland Paris seem to have been hit especially hard by the current economic climate . While none of the seven Disney Hotels (including Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch) is deserted guests at the hotels clearly get the impression that the hotels are considerable less busy. The conception is not only based on shorter lines during check-in or less busy restaurants during breakfast, but also on the cut-backs of the amenities.
With the exception of the Disneyland Hotel the Disney Hotels are still sticking to the limited operating hours for their pools, which continue to open only at 3.00pm. Also there are other cut-backs such as at Disney’s Sequoia Lodge where the “Ranger’s Breakfast” in the Bar area has been discontinued which normally allowed selected guests to avoid the busy restaurants. Last week the team responsible for the operation of the various popular offers on and around Lake Disney, such as the pedal boats, water bikes and the go-karts in front of Disney’s Hotel New York started to prepare for the end of the summer season as well. As can be seen here the modular blocks used to define the actual “race track” for the go-karts were already disassembled.
Expect the cover to get off the floor soon as well to allow preparation for the traditional ice rink that will replace the go-karts as early as sometime during October most likely, considering that the cast of “Mickey’s Winter Wonderland” (set to return to the Chaparral Theater in the course of November) usually held parts of their skating rehearsals on the public ice rink during morning hours, when it is still closed to guests.

No, sir – not this summer. In the recent weeks fans have heatedly debatted the decision of the management to limit operating hours of certain attractions inside the Disneyland Park, i.e. opening them late and closing them early. While the opinions of fans seem to go apart, whether this is acceptable in the current economic climate or not, general consensus seems to be that the way the operating hours are communicated (with signs at the entrance of the according attractions but not on any leaflet or centralized information board) is extremly problematic. However, cost cutting measures are also affecting the guests of the hotels – at least those that are staying in the Disney Hotels which are fighting decreased occupancy rates despite numerous deep discounts in the past months. For the breakfast guests are guided twoard two large rooms of the convention center of the hotel, which is also the location for the “Radio City Buffet” that is offered in the same areas during dinner. One of the most congested areas in all of Disneyland Paris on most days is the walkway right in front of the entrance to Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland. With the addition of the FastPass machines next to it this congestion in the past years became even worse, as guests debatting whether to enter the regular stand-by line for the attraction were joined by the crowds forming around the entrance to the FastPass machines to obtain their FastPass tickets to bypass the long lines for the ride on run-away-mine-train. But a small change realized at the beginning of this year’s summer season has allevated the situation considerably. With a rope the entrance to the FastPass distributing machines has been re-routed, resulting in the queue for the machines not to extent toward the attractions regular entrance but into the opposite direction.
