Since April 4, 2009 (or March 20th, 2009 if the preview performances are counted in as well) the dinner show “Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show” in the Disney Village after nearly full 17 years (which makes it the longest running show of the resort) is presented in an updated version, which had “Mickey and friends” inserted into the story line of the longest running show of the Disneyland Resort Paris.
With the addition of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy as well as Chip’n'Dale the creative team not only wanted to liven up scenes such as the camp scene but also wanted to counter a trend over the recent years that saw the number of guests booking tickets for the dinner show dwindle. The logic here is that guests may have refrained from paying for the dinner show due to a lack of an obvious “Disney element” in it. (more…)

Following the grand opening party for invited guests on Friday (see our report from Friday night) the new Starbucks Coffee location in the Disney Village is now open since yesterday in regular operation. The Starbucks in the Disney Village is located in the former Buffalo Trading Company, which was completely remodeled inside and outside. The new interior resembles the regular Starbucks’ style and architecture without any major references to Disney. It picks up several of the architectural elements that dominate the newly designed exterior facade, in particular the basket-style weaved wooden texture. (more…)

The facades for the Starbucks moving into the Disney Village is nearly finished. Seen here is the progress from a week ago. In the meantime the scaffolding has come down and has revealed a clear view of ”bread basket look” of the corner element as well as the reminder of the facade, that blends rather well into the the flight formed by its two neighbours, The Steakhouse and Billy Bob’s Country & Western Saloon. Next steps should be the installation of the doors / windows (on ground level) of whatever is going to be attached to the steal beams protruding from the facade as well as the installation of the signage. Please note that the upper level seating is not(!) part of Starbucks but of La Grange, the all you can eat buffet in Billy Bob’s. (more…)

Many believed that with the closure of the Buffalo Trading Company to replace it – according to the internet – with a Starbucks later this year the most visible change for 2009 in the Disney Village was “done”. However just early this month another change happened surprisingly: the carousel next to the Raiforest Cafe (opposite of Cafe Mickey) was removed!
The large carousel which required guests to actualy pay for each ride had been widely criticized by fans as looking tacky, not being Disney-themed and also being a rather blunt move to get money from guests since a more intricately themed classic carousel is an attraction inside the Disneyland Park which guests with a theme park passport can use without further costs.
However, that discussion seems to be a thing of the past now, as the carousel was removed without any traces left . Another step in the project of the Disneyland Resort Paris to streamline the look of the Disney Village and make it more inviting for guests to spend some time there (besides rushing throughout it on the way to the hotel, a quick meal and maybe some late hour shopping in the Disney boutiques). As part of the project the atmosphere of the Disney Village was already greatly improved by the removal of the former central stage between the Sports Bar and the Disney Store and later the addition of planters and trees and new outdoor seating (in early 2008) as well as a small stage (in late 2008). One needs to wonder: what is the next thing that has to give and what additions are in store in the near-term?
