Goofy & Pooh Forgotten?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Yesterday we reported about the return of the (tweaked) Enchanted Fireworks and the (also tweaked) Disney’s Fantillusion parade for the summer season. However, not every entertainment offering from the past year has made its comeback. In particular smaller offerings such as “Good Morning Studios” and the “Toon Train” in the Studios are gone (as well as the “High School Musical” performance) – without replacement, even so “Stitch or friends” are supposed to pose for photos and sign autographs on the Place des Stars for 3 1/2 hours each afternoon adding to the lineup of characters usually found in Toon Plaza, on the Front Lot and at the Monsters. Inc. photo backdrop. Interestingly the visits of Jack Sparrow to the pirates’ section of the Disney Blockbuster Cafe have been stopped as well.  The picture at the Disneyland Park is slightly different though… (more…)

Yes! Its a pirate’s tune…

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Imagine this:
You are sitting among intimidating looking pirates – armed with muskets and knifes, some of them have scars from their latest struggles in their faces or are even missing an eye – on board of a pirate’s ship. The dead eyes of an old captain’s skeleton, who took his place on board recently, are looking down on you.
The tension of the whole situation is getting more and denser…
and then…
and then the first tunes from the “Love Story” Main Theme are getting through to your ears.
Doesn’t feel right? (more…)

Blockbuster Music

Disneyland Paris is trying its best to lure guests into the Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© opposite of the Rock’n'Roller Coaster in the Walt Disney Studios Park in the wake of its complete remodelling earlier this year. The latest step? The small brass band that had been playing on the raised seating area in front of the large windows facing toward Armageddon during the last winter season has returned. (more…)

Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© – Original or Not?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Blockbuster Cafe - Pirates AreaIt has been a while since we were able to report progress in the transformation of the former “Backlot Express” restaurant in the Walt Disney Studios to its new “Disney Blockbuster CafĂ©” incarnation – however, at the last update the interior (and exterior) seemed pretty much finished with only the display cases in both the Pirates of the Caribbean section and the (on the majority of days closed) expansion room of the High School Musical area still empty. However, finally these display cases have been outfitted with content as well. (more…)

The Blockbuster Update

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Blockbuster Cafe - TaxiWe are running late – more than a week without an update about the Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© in the Walt Disney Studios Park! But once again there is some “progress” to report. And this time it already starts outside … the car with the High School Musical 3 stickers has disappeared from its prior parking spot in front of the building. Instead the yellow cab (advertising the resorts rental car partner Hertz) next to it (on front of the wide window section of the Pirates of the Caribbean themed room) received an “update” and now advertises the new name of the restaurant on its ad-space on the rooftop. And there is more to report from inside the restaurant as well … (more…)

Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© – Original HSM props?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Blockbuster Cafe - High School Musical AreaEven so a few additional posters and banners were added in the past weeks the decoration based on the High School Musical franchise in the entrance area, the counter area as well as the raised seating area to the righ of the entrance seemed mostly finished for a while in the Disney Blockbuster Café (with the exception of a few overhead banners that were added lately) while work concentrated on the Pirates of the Caribbean themed room, that opened only last week.

However, a look into the second HSM themed room the past weekend revealed that there might be more coming. This second room can be accessed from the raised seating area only and is actualy the former covered terrace that was enclosed during the first winter of the Walt Disney Studios to increase the restaurant’s capacity for the colder months of the year. While posters showing off the cast of the HSM 3 were added several weeks ago already, now two large glass display cases were placed along the rear wall (just as in the Pirates themed room). So it seems a good guess that some original props from the movies might be added here sometime soon. (more…)

Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© – the cool pirates hang-out

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Blockbuster Cafe - Pirates AreaThe Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© officially opened its Pirates of the Caribbean themed area (to the left of the main serving area) the past week. To celebrate this occasion the printed entertainment guide for the two theme parks also got updated with a notice that the “newest, coolest place to eat” has replaced the former Backlot Express Restaurant (since the entertainment Blockbuster Cafe - Pirates Areaguide is printed weekly, while the main guide will only be re-printed in early November and will still list the old restaurant till then).

As the exterior of the building remained unchanged with the exceptionBlockbuster Cafe - Pirates Area of the new marquee featuring the new name above the main entrance the only indicator that there might be something related to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies to be found inside are the new large movie posters advertising the franchise behind the first outdoor seating area, which replaced current posters for the latest movies of Walt Disney Pictures. While Blockbuster Cafe - Pirates Areaa large window front facing toward Armageddon and the main road looks into the Pirates themed room it is hard to difficult to see any details from outside, as the windows are not only partially blocked by one of the major themeing elements, but also recieved a blue tinting to give the impression eternal moonlight inside…

But once a guest leaves the High School Musical themed entrance and (more…)

Pirates – your ship is about to embark…

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Blockbuster Cafe - Pirates Area… at the Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© in the Walt Disney Studios Park. Guests expected the restaurant to open its second themed area (after the High School Musical area has been open for several weeks already) as various official guides started referring to both themes as of last week. However, as of Saturday the Pirates of the Carribean themed seating area was still blocked off and work clearly not finished. But before we get to that just a short note, that the High School Musical themed main area has received some additional decoration elements as well, including another banner right above the main access to the counter area congratulating the Wildcats on their back-to-back championships.

The latest pictures show off the new backdrop added to the rear of the raised seating area, in front of the large windows looking out toward the Armaggedon attraction (as mentioned in our most recent report about the project progress). Note that there are three lamps attached to it, one on each side and one at the center top. Also the glass in the wooden frame-like structure is assembled out of rectangualr pieces in two different colors. In the meantime additional decoration elements have been added as well (more…)

Get ready to board the bridge

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

The former Backlot Express Restaurant in the Walt Disney Studios continues its transformation into the “Disney Blockbuster CafĂ©”, in particular the creation of the area with decorations based on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie trilogy – however, different from the area based on the “High School Musical” franchise, the Pirates of the Caribbean area is closed off during the ongoing transformation and at least rudimentary measures are taken to prevent close-up views of the inside – however, word about the progress is getting out nevertheless… (more…)

Pirates and Higschool Kids

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

… are supposed to be right at home at the Disney Blockbuster CafĂ© in the Walt Disney Studios Park once the transformation of the former “Backlot Express Restaurant” is finished. In another visible progress the “CafĂ©” signage part of the restaurant’s name was added to the facade above the main entrance in the past days. As in the past, while “Disney Blockbuster” is painted directly on the wall, the “CafĂ©” element is actually a 3D-element that (supposedly) should be illuminated at night. But what about the interior? (more…)
