jornjokker has provided fans of Disneyland Paris with two interesting updates in the past couple of days on Twitter - in particular regarding the upcoming Toy Story Playland as he managed to grab a photo of the Army Men Parachute Drop with the future parachutes pulled up to the top of the ride during some test operation. The photo on twitpic in particular shows that the seats have been attached to the cables under the frame work for the future parachute-like covers.
Differing from the similar Jumpin’ Jellyfish ride in Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim the future ride at WDS’ Toy Story Playland consists of only one instead of two towers with the tower only having 5 instead of 6 parachutes attached. However, while each parachute provides only two seats in DCA (bringing the total capacity per tower to 12 and therefore for the whole ride to 24) the parachutes of the Army Men Parachute Drop feature a different, more substantial seating construction providing 6 seats per parachute (two rows back to back, with each row offering three separate seats next to each other), bringing the total capacity of the tower to 30 36 seats (6 12 more than the combined seats on both towers at DCA). This also explains the much more burly, massiv impression the actual tower and in particular the construction on top of it at WDS has compared to DCA’s towers. (more…)

Being open to guests 365 days per year means that all renovation, rehab and construction projects in Disneyland Paris have to be conducted in full view of the guests. In particular a highly themed environment such as in a Disney resort certainly is easily interrupted by the large scaffoldings necessary for some of the work, say for example to keep structures such as the detailed facades of the buildings along the Main Street, U.S.A. in the Disneyland Park up to the top notch quality standards of a Disney park. Therefore, several years ago Disneyland Paris began to hide the scaffoldings at building facades during rehabs not behind plain white or uni-colored tarps but huge oversized screen like tarps featuring detailed near-photo quality drawings / replicas of the facades hidden behind the scaffolding. Remember when the facade of the Studio 1 formed a huge but in its simplicity gracefull backdrop for the Frontlot of the Walt Disney Studios? If not you are in good companionship as barely anoyne will be able to do so consider the years of oversized billboards and now the construction screen hiding the actual building – even so the latter at least features a recreation of the facade.

Keeping this in mind you might understand why we were so surprised to see some changes last Friday. As seen in the photo the big number “one” at the very top of the facade, that was visible through an opening in the scaffolding had just been covered and hidden behind some white cover. But, wait there is more … take a close look at the photo on the right … yes, there were several workers on the scaffolding! Their shapes can be seen through the printed on screen … and yes, they were actually working at different parts of the upper part of the facade.

Continuing last year’s project to redo major parts of the walkways / floor in Discoveryland currently a major part of the floor in the area between the FastPass staircase of Space Mountain, Star Traders and Star Tours has been ripped out and is currently redone. One needs to wonder whether the fact that this area was part of the performance space for the popular “Dance Time” show featuring Stitch and his space ship plus four rolling stages in spring and summer 2009 has anything to do with the decision to redo this part of the floor. However, it also solves the problem of any potential remaining indicators of the patches of color applied to the floor for the show.

Spring time in Disneyland Paris is always also time for outdoor construction and rehabs. As the cold leaves and the sun comes out the crews are swarming out over the whole resort to bring it back into shape and in particular tackle all the dmage that the winter’s freezing may have caused. So for frequent guests it is no surprise to find construction going all over.
One of the most common work to be spotted right now is repaving of the walkways in the Disneyland Park. Shown in the photo on the right is such work in Adventureland in the area between the ATM and the bridge leading to three house / Adventure Isle. Over in Fantasyland construction has resulted in the closure of an attraction… (more…)

The wide stone bridge leading up to the main gate of the Sleeping Beauty Castle has returned from its un-scheduled rehab after the fierce winter temperatures had caused it too age faster than the resort had hoped. The result: guests can finally take an unobstructed photo of the park’s center piece again. The stone bridge now nearly shines bright white in front of the castle in the sunshine as if it popped out of a fairy tale book just seconds again.

So all back to normal? In a way yes – just better looking – and NO in another way. Only regular guests will notice a small change that was incorporated during the rehab… (more…)

The metall framework for the parachutes added to the lower end of the cables at the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop is not the only progress visible across the construction fence still closing off the future Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios. Certainly there are the bright orange steel tracks shaped like a huge “U” extending up into te skies above the trees – but there are also interesting
signs of progress to spot closer to the ground …
take for example the before mentioned bright orange track of the RC Racer. Following the track from the highest point to the lowest point of the “U” a building can be spotted that covers this flat part of the track. The construction of the walls and roof of this future station building for the RC Racer attraction have been completed, even so the walls are still to receive their paint job and themeing details. While the first large bamboo planted on the far side of the future Toy Story Playland area in the Walt Disney Studios starts to (at least partially) block the view of the current costume building for the resort from within in the new area of the park, the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop tower still towers high above everything else in the surrounding area of the parks (well, besides the Tower of Terror certainly). It’s green camoflage design doesn’t help it to blend in – shades of green just kind of stand out from the (at least today) blue skies.
However, there is also somethng good about this visual intrusion – at least during the current construction phase: it is easy to follow the construction progress for this specific attraction. Since the huge tower was errected and the extensions added at its top from which in the meantime the strong steel cables were dropped that will secure the “parachutes” / gondolas for guests progress to the actual ride seemed to have stopped more or less … but now there is something new to discover for guests that take a closer look across the construction fence! After the central tower of the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop the second attraction of the upcoming Toy Story Playland area at the Walt Disney
Studios Park is rising high above the blue construction walls surrounding the construction for the expansion area. This time it is the halfpipe track for “RC Racer”.
User Mehdi5 managed to take a couple of photos of the bright orange track resting on the just as glaring purple supports on Monday, February 22 and published them on the MagicForum site. The photos show very well how the bright, very toy-like colors stand out compared to the green colors for the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop attraction and the natural forrest backdrop. As the track rises high up above the blue construction fences however these bright colors bring up the same problem as the parachute drop tower: the potential risk of visual intrusion. However, at this point it still needs to be awaited whether the bare steel tracks can only be seen from the top of the lift hills of the Big Thunder Mountain or also from further within Frontierland.
While the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop will be a tame attraction suitable also for younger children the steel track of the RC Racer now visible to extend vertically high up into the air clearly indicates that this second ride of the new Toy Story Playland is not the tame family ride many had expected but has to be considered a thrill ride more appealing to the teenage crowd.

There were times, when the American Movie and TV Industry had its first heyday, when Television and Movie Studios were more than just soulless accumulations of plain buildings made of corrugated iron, when they had a style and architecture that partly influenced an era.
It is no secret that Imagineering at Disneyland Paris tried to revive these times with some of the beautiful buildings like the ones in Frontlot or the Disney Channel building.
But it is much more of a secret, that WDI had a more subtle plan behind that.
DLP.info is proud to now reveal it!
After showing the days and times of prosperity, when the great Stars dandered around the production buildings, the Walt Disney Studios Paris will now also present the times of the decay to its guests!
A start was made with the recent renovation work at the Disney Channel building, which was covered with scaffolding for quite some time, but not to make it look new, in a heyday-style again, but to bring the days of decay back to life.
Or can there be another explanation besides the one, that a special decay-simulating paint has been put on the building, for the fact, that the building so soon after renovation shows the first signs of decline again by losing paint on several parts of its facade?
