Pirates – your ship is about to embark…

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Blockbuster Cafe - Pirates Area… at the Disney Blockbuster Café in the Walt Disney Studios Park. Guests expected the restaurant to open its second themed area (after the High School Musical area has been open for several weeks already) as various official guides started referring to both themes as of last week. However, as of Saturday the Pirates of the Carribean themed seating area was still blocked off and work clearly not finished. But before we get to that just a short note, that the High School Musical themed main area has received some additional decoration elements as well, including another banner right above the main access to the counter area congratulating the Wildcats on their back-to-back championships.

The latest pictures show off the new backdrop added to the rear of the raised seating area, in front of the large windows looking out toward the Armaggedon attraction (as mentioned in our most recent report about the project progress). Note that there are three lamps attached to it, one on each side and one at the center top. Also the glass in the wooden frame-like structure is assembled out of rectangualr pieces in two different colors. In the meantime additional decoration elements have been added as well (more…)

Get ready to board the bridge

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

The former Backlot Express Restaurant in the Walt Disney Studios continues its transformation into the “Disney Blockbuster Café”, in particular the creation of the area with decorations based on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie trilogy – however, different from the area based on the “High School Musical” franchise, the Pirates of the Caribbean area is closed off during the ongoing transformation and at least rudimentary measures are taken to prevent close-up views of the inside – however, word about the progress is getting out nevertheless… (more…)

Construction FINISHED

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Three of the resort’s ongoing construction / rehab projects have finally been finished nearly half-way through the summer season in the past days. In the Disneyland Park the scaffolding has come down around the Plaza Gardens Restaurant, giving guests of the buffet restaurant once again the opportunity to look out on the gardens during the meal while guests walking around Central Plaza can see the sun reflecting in the shiny shingles of the once again all pretty facade. Also finished is the rehab of the columns along the facade of the Annual Passport office just a few meters further up at the border between Discoveryland and Fantasyland.

The third finished project can be found in the Walt Disney Studios Park, where the small structure added in front of the Disney Channel building has been revealed as another merchandise kiosk offeriing a small assortment of products, including High School Musical themed items, such as Mickey and Minnie plush in East High basketball respectively cheerleader outfits. The new kiosk seems to reflect the new color scheme that the current rehab is adding to the Disney Channel building. The yellowish color is still the main color, but in addition to the blue / green accents (in the cas eof th kiosk in the form of neon lights) also red art deco accents have been added.

Pirates and Higschool Kids

… are supposed to be right at home at the Disney Blockbuster Café in the Walt Disney Studios Park once the transformation of the former “Backlot Express Restaurant” is finished. In another visible progress the “Café” signage part of the restaurant’s name was added to the facade above the main entrance in the past days. As in the past, while “Disney Blockbuster” is painted directly on the wall, the “Café” element is actually a 3D-element that (supposedly) should be illuminated at night. But what about the interior? New Color Scheme?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Just a little heads up from the ongoing rehab of the Disney Channel Studio building in the Walt Disney Studios Park. As reported the whole building, housing “Stitch Live!”, the new “Playhouse Disney” stage show as well the actual offices of the Disney Channel France, is covered in scaffolding on the sides facing the theme park. First glimpses of the work going on on the top levels indicate that not only is the facade going to be repainted but with a different color scheme! Originally the yellowish color was combined with green and blue accents but the latter seem to be (at least partially) replaced with a red color. Also the small kiosk under construction in front of the building is already showcasing this new, warmer color scheme.

Works in Progress at Disneyland Paris

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Annual Passport Bureau 0907 02There is always something new at the Disneyland Resort Paris … however, some of the surprises are not really ment to attract guests … one of those is the maybe biggest surprise of this summer season … despite it being July, the DisPlaza Gardens 0907 02neyland Park having extended operating hours and it supposedly being the busiest time of the year there are several highly visible in two cases even the guest flow impeding construction / rehab projects going on in the Disneyland Park. On this scale a true first at the Disneyland Resort Paris, which usually made sure that all major, highly visible cosntruction projects related to renovating or rehabing were done prior to high season.

So which construction projects are currently happening inside the Disneyland Park? (more…)

Studios Construction Update

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Walt Disney Studios Store Limo 0907Despite the busy summer season in full swing the Walt Disney Studios Park is seing several more or less obvious and more or less construction projects going on … time for a wrap up …

The facade of Studio 1 facing toward the Frontlot and seen already by guests approaching the park is still fully covered by scaffolding and a scrim with a printed on replica of the facade. However, geusts shouldn’t expect this to change since – as already reported – there is no actual work going on there right now, but the scaffolding has been retained to allow for easy installation of an oversized advertising poster should Walt Disney Pictures be willing to pay for such step once again. In the meantime the last work on the Walt Disney Studios Store has been finished and the stretch limousine that is used as backdrop for a Meet’n'Greet with various Disney characters has been moved back from in front of Studio 1 to its original place in front of the Studio Store in the past week. However, thereby access to one of the newly added doors have been partially been obstructed again. The real surprising construction work can be found further inside the park … and photos can be found right after this break (more…)

East High School at WDS (updated!)

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

The world wide smash hit franchise “High School Musical” is already present at the Walt Disney Studios for the past three years with the various shows performed during the summer half-year. However, now a year round option for fans is prepared: as reported earlier the former Backlot Express Restaurant has been emptied of all movie props on display so far and is transferred into a restaurant featuring a “High School Musical” themed area and a “Pirates of the Caribbean” themed area – and the transformation is progressing with large steps. Toy Story Playland – concept art from Hong Kong!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

The Government of Hong Kong has officially announced a major expansion plan for Hong Kong Disneyland including three new mini-lands one of which is to be called “Toy Story Land”. While the other two will be exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland for five years from their respective opening, the latter is going to be exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland only within the Asian region (to learn more about the three lands Toy Story Landand the multi year expansion plan for Hong Kong Disneyland visit the Mousekingdom Blog, where we have now published an updated version of our detailed post including concept-art and an official expansion park plan).

“Toy Story Land”? Exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland only in comparison to other Asian Disney resorts, but therefore not to the US resorts and Disneyland Resort Paris??

Getting Ready…

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Old Mill… for the summer season does not only mean, that the entertainment department is busy with the final preparations, gardening crews are bustling even more busy than normally and the final attraction closures for last minute rehabs are organized. In addition there are numerous smaller (and not so small) rehabs and construction projects in particular spread over the Disneyland Park to sprouce up everything.

In Adventureland the rehab of the Café de la Brousse, we reported earlier this week, has now been joint by a (more…)
