Today’s progress report regarding the construction of the upcoming Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios (as already featured in the park maps and on the waiting times information board in the park) is – for a change – reporting some aural progress. As user 15MagicalYears posted on the MagicForum Imagineering during the past week tested the audio feature of the giant Buzz Lightyear statue placed right behind the current construction fence at the future entrance of the new area.
Luckily the tests were conducted during regular park operation hours and apparently the volume of Buzz’ catch phrases must be rather high as guests on the walkway outside the construction area were able to hear Buzz speak. Rumors claimed that Buzz would occassionally utter various of his catch phrases from the Toy Story features. However, 15MagicalYears managed to catch only one of those phrases: following the sound effect of a radio connection (typical statics) Buzz announced “Buzz to Star Command, can you read me Star Command?“. We don’t know about Star Command, but guests of the WDS obviously read you Buzz!

Following yesterday’s report about the arrival of the giant statue of Buzz Lightyear at the front entrance to Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios we present now a series of four all new photos.
Guests are supposed to be able to walk around as well as under the statue of Buzz to enter into the new area. Also pre-opening word is that the statue, while not featuring any movement, is supposed to feature audio of some of the most famous lines of Buzz from the Toy Stories movies. However, none of the rumors and reports indicate which lines and which languages might have been chosen. (more…)

The Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios seems to race toward the finish line faster and faster. Only last week the entrance sign at the area’s main entrance was spotted over the construction fence and now already the giant Buzz Lightyear statue has been put in place! The French forum of Disney Magic Interactive is featuring what might very well be the very first photo of the statue – which more than just peeks over the construction fence but looks just as tall as the entrance sign, if not even a bit taller … check it out! However, that is not all the news from the Toy Story Playland … (more…)

Finally! Woody, Buzz and their Toy friends are almost ready to move into the Toy Story playland area in the Walt Disney Studios. Works are nearing completion, test runs will follow and then it will be ready to take the fences down and to open the new area inside the studios. The Toy Story Crew have their bags packed and will be ready for the grand opening that has now been given a date.
The gates to the new land will open as from August 17th. The new land will welcome guest to enjoy the new attractions “Army Men Parachute Drop”, “Slinky Dog Zigzag Spin” and the “RC Racer”. The new Area opens at the end of the summer season, something that might upset the high season visitors, but could convince them to return for another visit in the near future.
Unannounced soft openings could start earlier in the summer time, surprising young and old guests for a first ride on one of the new attractions.
Although the date has been set for August 17th at this time, as long as Disney doesn’t announce it officially it could still change.

Toy Story Playland is going big, very big! Especially when it comes to Buzz Lightyear.
This oversized statue will be the star of the playground and will become a prime location for those family snapshots. New pictures on the web show you how big Buzz will be. Over at Theme Park Review a collection of pictures have emerged where you can see the full statue erect in the workplace. Also in this photo report is a picture of buzz in “smaller” parts. Just like a puzzle, it is lying around on the work floor and on some tables. It is an impressive sight, especially when you see a grown man posing in front of the finished Buzz. Can you recognize the man posing next to Buzz? Yes, it is John Lasseter.
The only thing missing on that picture is the colors on Buzz. This can be found on the next picture in this series. Buzz chest plate is carrying his well known color pallet.
But there is more to see. Scroll down and you’ll get to see some army men getting ready for battle. A first look at the Slinky Dog for the Slinky Dog Zig Zag Spin attraction and a big RC Racer car mold. Visit the Theme Park Review forum for all the pictures.
