AP Holders a.k.a. the early birds of Toy Story Playland

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

As reported the all new Toy Story Playland has proven extremly popular with guests since it opened in the past week – unfortunately resulting in longer waiting lines for its three attractions. Taking into account this and the success of the exclusive previews of the area prior to its official opening for holders of the Annual Passport Dream the resort has decided to grant all holders of Annual Passports of the resort the unique opportunity to enjoy the Toy Story Playland once again exclusively!

Well, to be correct not just once – but DAILY from August 25 till September 17, 2010! Every day in this period Toy Story Playland opens for holders of Annual Passports from 8:30 till 9:30 am so that AP holders can enjoy the area uncrowded and hop on all three rides (which are scheduled to be operating unless an unexpected technical problem might occur) without the now regular long lines. Time for the second part of our walk through Toy Story Playland at the Walt Disney Studios. After a closer look ath the giant Buzz Ligtyear at the entrance of the area in the first part, we are now inching closer to the entrance, approaching the walkway behind him that will lead us through the bamboo surrounding the area. To the right of the walkway the official marquee of the area stands. The Toy Story logo is placed on a large yo-yo that stand up on a huge tower made out of building blocks spelling out “PLAYLAND” from top to bottom. (more…)

Buzz calling … out loud

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Today’s progress report regarding the construction of the upcoming Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios (as already featured in the park maps and on the waiting times information board in the park) is – for a change – reporting some aural progress. As user 15MagicalYears posted on the MagicForum Imagineering during the past week tested the audio feature of the giant Buzz Lightyear statue placed right behind the current construction fence at the future entrance of the new area.

Luckily the tests were conducted during regular park operation hours and apparently the volume of Buzz’ catch phrases must be rather high as guests on the walkway outside the construction area were able to hear Buzz speak. Rumors claimed that Buzz would occassionally utter various of his catch phrases from the Toy Story features. However, 15MagicalYears managed to catch only one of those phrases: following the sound effect of a radio connection (typical statics) Buzz announced “Buzz to Star Command, can you read me Star Command?“. We don’t know about Star Command, but guests of the WDS obviously read you Buzz!

New Photos from Toy Story Playland

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Following yesterday’s report about the arrival of the giant statue of Buzz Lightyear at the front entrance to Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios we present now a series of four all new photos.

Guests are supposed to be able to walk around as well as under the statue of Buzz to enter into the new area. Also pre-opening word is that the statue, while not featuring any movement, is supposed to feature audio of some of the most famous lines of Buzz from the Toy Stories movies. However, none of the rumors and reports indicate which lines and which languages might have been chosen. (more…)

Buzz Arrived at TSP … and more!

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios seems to race toward the finish line faster and faster. Only last week the entrance sign at the area’s main entrance was spotted over the construction fence and now already the giant Buzz Lightyear statue has been put in place! The French forum of Disney Magic Interactive is featuring what might very well be the very first photo of the statue – which more than just peeks over the construction fence but looks just as tall as the entrance sign, if not even a bit taller … check it out! However, that is not all the news from the Toy Story Playland … (more…)

New Constellations in the Toy Universe

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

When Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast opened its gates to recruite guests in Discoveryland to join Buzz Lightyear and his Space Rangers in the battle against Zurg for the battery power and thus the future of the Toy Universe the shop Constellations received a small makeover. Due to its location next to the exit of the new attraction it was supposed to be turned into the Toy Story / Buzz Lightyear shop. However, while the former themeing of the shop related to the star constellations in the sky was taken out and the large centerpiece featuring Mickey Mouse in a flying machine inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci was replaced with a statue of Buzz new themeing elements were rather limited. Also the merchandise selection remained rather wide with basically only the added outdoor vending area between the exit of the ride and the shops side entrance being mostly dedicated to Toy Story related merchandise. However, early this year the themeing of the shop received a major upgrade… (more…)
