Summer ending – construction work ending?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Bridge from Skull Rock to PiratesThe summer season is coming to a close - Sunday is the official final day – and it seems with it the last visible construction / refurbishment projects in the Disneyland Park. At the latest counting three sites were still covered behind construction fences: parts of the ground around the Orbitron in Discoveryland, the bridge leading from Pirates of the Caribbean to Skull Rock in Adventureland and the Last Chance Cafe in Adventureland. Well, this past weekend only one of these locations was left under construction … (more…)

Defibrillators in the Disneyland Park

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Adventureland Bazaar Telefon - DefibrillatorFollowing the lead of major airports around the globe the Disneyland Park seems to have started to place defibrillators in locations accessible to guests for emergency use. One such defibrillator was placed next to the public phones in the Adventureland Bazaar at the entrance of Adventureland. However, at this point the official park maps do not yet include any information about the location of the defibrillator. Also there is not signage pointing guests to the defibrillator on-side.

While the addition of the defibrillators certainly is an important step to improve emergency care for the worst case signage and inclusion in the guide maps are an  absolute necessary to allow guests easy and fast access. Guests should be aware, that while these defibrillators (just as the ones found e.g. in airports) are designed to be used by un-trained personnel it is of absolute importance to immediately inform a cast member in the vincinity in case of an emergency who can call in the trained emergency staff of the resort.

High Tech in the Bazaar

Adventureland Bazaar Toilet - Dryson AirbladeThe restrooms inside the Adventureland Bazaar structure at the entrance of the Adventureland from Central Plaza have been selected by the resort to test a new technical gadget to replace the “old style” paper towels and air dryers. Dyson Airblades have been installed in the restrooms, both for men and women.

According to the official website of the Dyson Airblades (from the inventors of the Dyson vacuum cleaners) are supposed to use up to 80% less energy than the usual “old style” air dryers. Therefore, the new addition should help the resort cut down on costs, assuming that they stand the test of the nearly continuous use in the public restrooms inside the park without too many technical problems and the initial acquisition costs are acceptable. Unfortunately there is also a downside: according to recent reports the Dyson Airblades are much louder than the originally used “old style” air dryers and can even be heared outside the restrooms thus impacting the guest experience not only positively.

Fast Food Adventures & Frontiers

Café de la BrousseEarlier this year the Café de la Brousse, a counter service location in African style huts offering only partialy covered outdoor seating along the shores of the lagoon in Adventureland, underwent an extensive rehab including a paint job and a new thatched roof – only to remain closed when the visible work was done. However, the past week saw the location finally open again!

Surprisingly the menu was kept pretty much unchanged even so the Café de la Brousse is now being presented by Dole (according to its own statement the world’s largest producer and marketer of fresh fruits and vegetables), i.e. mostly Hot Dogs, pre-packaged ice cream, soft drinks and some desserts. Opening Times Summer 2009 - Indiana JonesYes, it is summer high season for the Disneyland Resort Paris from early July to late August, yes the parks are busy and yes, the Disneyland Park has extended operating hours and features additional entertainment such as Goofy’s Summer Camp, Disney’s Fantillusion and in particular the Enchanted Fireworks to bring the day to a majestic finale in the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle. But guests could be excused for believing that they are in the Disneyland Park on a slow off-season day thanks to additional signs posted on the entrances to various attractions – minor and major ones such as Phantom Manor – that inform about staggered operating hours, i.e. certain attractions opening later than the park and / or closing earlier.  (more…)

Works in Progress at Disneyland Paris

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Annual Passport Bureau 0907 02There is always something new at the Disneyland Resort Paris … however, some of the surprises are not really ment to attract guests … one of those is the maybe biggest surprise of this summer season … despite it being July, the DisPlaza Gardens 0907 02neyland Park having extended operating hours and it supposedly being the busiest time of the year there are several highly visible in two cases even the guest flow impeding construction / rehab projects going on in the Disneyland Park. On this scale a true first at the Disneyland Resort Paris, which usually made sure that all major, highly visible cosntruction projects related to renovating or rehabing were done prior to high season.

So which construction projects are currently happening inside the Disneyland Park? (more…)

Getting Ready…

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Old Mill… for the summer season does not only mean, that the entertainment department is busy with the final preparations, gardening crews are bustling even more busy than normally and the final attraction closures for last minute rehabs are organized. In addition there are numerous smaller (and not so small) rehabs and construction projects in particular spread over the Disneyland Park to sprouce up everything.

In Adventureland the rehab of the Café de la Brousse, we reported earlier this week, has now been joint by a (more…)

Getting ready for April and beyond!

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

studiosshop1There is a lot of work going on at Disneyland Resort Paris to get the two parks ready for the April holidays and the summer season. The central Plaza stage is ready and so are the Stitch dance platforms, even with the problems mentioned in previous news. But there is enough other things that still needs to get ready. At Start Tours the main entrance is blocked off. Guest need to enter it between the fences and the Constellations shop, making it a narrow place for those trying to enter the attraction, leaving it, or for those shopping.

In Adventureland, just across the Hakuna Matata Restaurant, Café de la Brousse has been scaffolded for a while now. The bland scaffolding around this small takeaway isn’t very nice for the eye, so one hopes this locations restauration will be done soon. In Frontierland the work at the Last Chance Cafe seems to be done. It was surprising to see some (more…)
