New Constellations in the Toy Universe

January 21st, 2010 by Dirk

When Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast opened its gates to recruite guests in Discoveryland to join Buzz Lightyear and his Space Rangers in the battle against Zurg for the battery power and thus the future of the Toy Universe the shop Constellations received a small makeover. Due to its location next to the exit of the new attraction it was supposed to be turned into the Toy Story / Buzz Lightyear shop. However, while the former themeing of the shop related to the star constellations in the sky was taken out and the large centerpiece featuring Mickey Mouse in a flying machine inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci was replaced with a statue of Buzz new themeing elements were rather limited. Also the merchandise selection remained rather wide with basically only the added outdoor vending area between the exit of the ride and the shops side entrance being mostly dedicated to Toy Story related merchandise. However, early this year the themeing of the shop received a major upgrade… …[more] »

January 20th, 2010 by Dirk

The California Grill was supposed to over a-la-carte dining during these times in the Founders’ Club upstairs. However, this offer has been surprisingly limited. In the comments to our original post Laura did let us know that at least during the upcoming weekend the operation of the California Grill in the Founders’ Club is on hiatus. January 20th, 2010 by Dirk

Yes – that will be the resounding answer of cast members at Star Traders in Discoveryland, Disneyland Park, as well as at the Walt Disney Studios Store on the Frontlot of the Walt Disney Studios Park.

While a couple of candy items had been added to the selection of the majority of shops and boutiques in both theme parks during the last years, this time we are talking about candy big time! …[more] »

A Mickey Leopard?

January 17th, 2010 by Dirk

The merchandise team of Disneyland Paris is trying to update the products in the shops regularly. This means on one hand new or updated merchandise shwoing up in the shops and on the other hand out-going, discontinued  merchandise being offered with discounts (as currently the case with the remaining products featuring the “2009″ numbers and themes prominently.

Some of the changes to the merchandise are rather small and hard to spot others really jump into the eye of frequent guests. …[more] »

The Endless Rehab

January 16th, 2010 by Dirk

For more than 4 years (out of the soon 8 years the park exists) the front facade of Studio 1 in the Walt Disney Studios has been covered by huge scaffolding. As it faces toward the Frontlot it is thus visible already to guests when approaching the gates of the Walt Disney Studios Park. Originally the scaffolding was covered with a huge oversized billboard to advertise the movie premiere (and then the DVD release) of Disney’s Chicken Little, which was then released with a huge oversized billboard / painting advertising Disney Pixar’s Cars (again first for the movie premier than the DVD release). In the meantime the scaffolding is covered by a huge replica of the facade as it was originally looking. Supposedly a rehab, i.e. re-painting, was / is going on under the cover of the scaffolding – even so in the recent years no work was witnessed by regular guests to really go on there. However, in time for the New Year season there is some sort of progress to report. …[more] »

Tink Missing & a surprise at Sleeping Beauty Castle

January 15th, 2010 by Dirk

The golden statue of Tinkerbell extending from the highest turret of Sleeping Beauty Castle has disappeared! The golden Tinkerbell with her magic wand had been installed as part of the special castle decoration for the 15th anniversary celebrations in 2007 and was the only element retained when the castle was “redecorated” for “Mickey’s Magical Party Time” in 2009 and was reported missing by guests who visited the resort early this week.

During the daily Candleabrations Ceremony in 2008 as well as during the Castle Illumination Ceremony during the past Christmas season Tinkerbell magically dispensed fairy dust from her wand to transform the castle. With the end of the Christmas season on January 6 the Tinkerbell statue wasn’t needed as element of any regular show anymore and became just a “plain” decoration on the castle. However, at this time Tinkerbell is the only decoration that was taken down. The Mickey-shaped golden toppers on the turrets as well as the main “ornament” on the front of the castle still remain. …[more] »

FastPass Update

January 14th, 2010 by Dirk

As reported in late 2009 the resort has outfitted the FastPass dispensing machines at the various attractions with an additional magnet-strip reader. Added to the front of the machines the reader allows guests to swipe their passports (whether Annual Passports or single / multi-day passports) through the reader to receive a FastPass ticket. The new method is less error prone as the original method as the passports are no longer mechanically pulled inside the machine to be pushed out again after reading the magnet stripe, which means passports can’t get stuck inside the machines anymore. Also the methods seems more intuitively for mosts guests based on observation during the busy around New Year period. Finally the new system speeds up compared to prior. …[more] »

Let’s get ready for the New Generation

January 12th, 2010 by Dirk

2010 Disneyland Paris is celebrating the “New Generation Festival” – as is hard to miss, with the festival’s theme being layered over the spring / summer brochures already all over Europe and the according posters already placed over the moving wlakways between the theme parks and their main parking lot.
