No Organ at Disney & Co.?

December 30th, 2010 by Dirk

When Disneyland Paris opened in 1992 the park featured three prominently placed organs – one at the railroad station on Main Street, U.S.A., one inside the Disney & Co. shop on Main Street, U.S.A. and finally the huge organ at the center of the Carousel de Lancelot. The latter was a historic organ that had been meticulously restored and played the music live that underscored the guests’ journey on the carousel. In the meantime the inner working mechanisms of the organ are gone and instead a prerecorded loop of organ music is used. And now more bad news is rumored for fans of organs at Disney theme parks… …[more] »

December 29th, 2010 by Dirk

“Disney Tangled” – the 50th full length animated classic by the Walt Disney Studios – has made its big screen debut around Europe and as usual it has made its debut at Disneyland Paris as well. I.e. Rapunzel and Flynn are available for meet’n'greets at the Royal Castle Stage daily since the start of the Christmas season. Certainly the resort did also welcome the latest characters into the resort’s shops… …[more] »

World of Disney Store – Construction Progress

December 28th, 2010 by Dirk

Despite the cold and snowy weather construction work for the upcoming World of Disney Store continues. The store will be the new face of the Disney Village for guests approaching it from the main parking lot or the two theme parks. However, so far most of the work is still of preparational measure, even so a large crane could be spotted at the site just before Christmas.  …[more] »

Earl of Sandwich grows

December 27th, 2010 by Dirk

During spring, summer and fall the ground for the latest addition of the Disney Village was prepared – but now during the cold, snowy season finally the vertical construction has started and can be spotted across the construction fences in place since early 2010.

Currently the concrete rear walls facing toward the Rainforest Cafe are being put in place and have already reached the height of the second floor. The front walls facing toward the Lake Disney will feature hughe glass windows which should provide for a great view on the lake – including the annual Guy Fawkes fireworks.

The Real Snow

December 12th, 2010 by Dirk

Snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A., snowmen at Woody’s Round-Up, a snow covered village in Fantasyland, a Winter Wonderland at the Chaparral Theater, ice skating in front of Disney’s Hotel New York – the magic and wonders of a white winter are a regular part of the annual Christmas season at Disneyland Paris. Still, all of this is controlled Disney magic. Several times per winter season the real stuff is sprinkled over the resort adding a unique natural magic to the sights and wonders of the resort, when the Sleeping Beauty Castle suddenly wears a white cover, when children start making snowmen in front of Disney’s Sequoia Lodge, when the jungle of Adventureland suddenly sports a white coat…

However, never since 1992 has a snow storm hit the resort with such strength as during the past week. …[more] »

Sightlines II & New Lights

November 24th, 2010 by Dirk

Following up on the permanent “correction” of the sightline across the roof of the Disney Art of Animation toward the Toy Soldier Parachute Drop today we have a temporary sightline correction to report that is related to the Toy Story Playland as well. This time it is related to the construction site for the (so far only rumored) future Ratatouille dark ride to be added to the Walt Disney Studios Park, next to the costumeing building. When exiting the Toy Story Playland through the giant blue Barrel of Monkeys guests walk straight toward the blue construction fence that blocks access to this construction site. …[more] »

Epic Mickey in Disneyland Paris

November 21st, 2010 by Dirk

The new Nintendo WII “Epic Mickey” video game by Disney Interactive is strongly advertised in the whole resort. The game is an exclusive for the Wii platform and they are going to try everything to get fans and gamers attention, so the game will be found under many Christmas trees. That’s if you can wait this long as the game, previously set with a European release date on November 25, is already widely available since November 19. The release for North America is set for November 30 and it looks like the USA will indeed have to wait a little longer to get the game as there are no indications the release date will be pushed forward in the USA too. …[more] »

Sightlines I

November 19th, 2010 by Dirk

Right before the opening of Toy Story Playland Imagineering confirmed upon request that they were looking into what to do with the unthemed walkway along the new land’s outskirt, leading from the upper end of the Hollywood Boulevard (in front of the Tram Tour), between the Disney Art of Animation building on the right and the new land on the left to the latter’s main entrance. While the walkway had been widened to handle the increased amount of guests expected in the area due to the new attractions it still remained unthemed… …[more] »

Spider-Man’s First Appearance

November 18th, 2010 by Andy de Maertelaere

Bitten by a radioactive spider back in the 60′s Peter Parker became the well known savior Spider-Man. Since then he had a big influence in American Pop Culture and appeared in multiple ongoing comics, movies, T-Shirts and lots of other collectibles and merchandise. Once Walt Disney Company bought Marvel, the home of Spider-Man, it was to be expected that we might see a lot more of him and his many heroic Marvel friends in and around the Disney universe. It didn’t take  long for the hero and multiple of his friends to pop up in the US parks, but Disneyland Paris was saved from a first wave of Marvel universe merchandise coming to the parks.

Now Spider-man has found his way to France and will target the young teen boys to buy some of his stuff when visiting the Disneyland parks. Those boys feeling a little to old for a nice Mickey cuddly toys, or feel left out when the princesses show of their collection have been given the chance to return home with some memories of the trip too. Even if the memory is coming from another fantasy world. …[more] »
