Disney Stars’n'Cars on the Big Screen

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Stars 'n' CarsThe grand finale of the daily entertainment in the Walt Disney Studios Park is “Disney Stars’n'Cars” – a calvacade of oldtimers decorated in style for Disney Characters rolling through the Animation Courtyard to the Production Courtyard Stage like a small parade, where the large cast of Disney Characters (including certainly the fab five, classic characters like Snow White but also modern characters such as Mulan or Sully) disembark for a revue style song and dance show before being available for photos and autographs (and finally heading the parade route back on board of their unique cars).

If there is one downside to the popular event it is that many first time guests line up along the parade route for the entrance of the characters and then have to follow the oldtimers to the stage, where they have to stand behind those guests, which reserved a good position to watch the 20 minute show performance. However, the entertainment crew have tried to solve this problem as good as they can. For one thing the characters not performing on stage in any given time are working the crowds on the sides and behind the stage. And then the entertainment crew is making use of the giant video screen on the facade of the Disney Channel Studios building! (more…)

Snow White on the Castle Stage

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Castle StageAfter more than 4 years the Royal Castle Stage next to Sleeping Beauty Castle seems to be set to be finally used for a show again – instead of function as a photo location for Disney Characters (in particular the Disney Princesses). The last show performed on this stage for a longer period of time was the first version of ”Winnie the Pooh and Friends, too” which closed at the end of the summer season 2005. Once its sets had been taken down the stage was sitting barren and empty except for minor elements moved in temporarly for the popular photo opportunities. However, most of the time the stage looked just as on the photo on the righ, taken this summer. BUT – that is about to change … (more…)

Ice Skating on Rockefeller Plaza – or not?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Traditionally the center piece of Rockefeller Plaza between Lake Disney and Disney’s Hotel New York during the cold months of the year is the so called ”Rockefeller Rink” – an ice skating rink that guests enjoyed since 1992. So when the cart track (that in the recent years is the summer alternative) closed down and was taken down in early September (as reported) the work taking place behind hastily set up construction walls was certainly assumed to be the usually installation of the ice skating rink. However, that assumption turned out to be wrong, when the walls came down and the date of the official opening of the rink (last Saturday) arrived … (more…)

Wicked Queen shows off new powers

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Disney’s Once Upon A Dream Parade - Wicked Queen - Snow WhiteHalloween is a crazy time in which the dark powers of the Disney Villains are stronger than ever – and allow them to play a trick or two on guests at Disneyland Paris during the popular Halloween Festival … and it seems the Wicked Queen from Snow White must have mustered special powers – maybe thanks to the recent release of her movie on Blu-Ray and DVD? Afterall, how else could she have managed to ride on the special Halloween pre-parade float in front of Disney’s Once Upon A Dream Parade transformed into the Witch as well as on the spectacular (regular) Disney Villains’ float (representing the “Dreams of Power”) in the same parade as elegant Wicked Queen??

On a sidenote: today’s performance of the parade was missing the “jungle” themed “Dreams of Adventure” float featuring the stars of Disney’s Jungle Book and The Lion King.

Halloween Preparations?

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Frontierland Halloween Pumpkin TreeWith the summer season finished for more than a week the next big “thing” for the resort is the upcoming Halloween season for which soon enough the first decorations should pop up on Main Street, U.S.A., as well as in Frontierland, Fantasyland and maybe even Adventureland (which would be a first for Disneyland Paris).

Frontierland Halloween Pumpkin TreeAlready traditionally the small duck pond on the Cottonwood Creek Ranch is where the magical pumpkin tree grows for the season on which the Pumpkin Men are rippening. So when the not so small wholes in the ground next to the pond were spotted early last week, covered just temporarily naturally the first assumption was: maybe this is the first visible preparation for the upcoming Halloween season in the Disneyland Park!

One Out, One In

Goofys Summer CampGoofy’s Summer Camp closed its doors with a final performance at 5:15 pm one week ago today – one more time the dedicated cast danced like a whirlewind across the wide stage of the Chaparral Theater, certainly adding some small extra comedy moments for the final performance (at one point even distracting the driver of the small golf cart bringing Goofy onstage enough, so that he drove into the rockwork of the set – without any real damage). Just one day later the construction crews moved into the theater and started moving the sand off the stage to prepare it for “Mickey’s Winter Wonderland” show, which will transport guests into a snow covered mountain setting as of November. However, the day after ”Goofy’s Summer Camp” closed another show returned to the Disneyland Park. (more…)

Get your stuff to dance along

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Ruban Volant from It’s Party Time… with Mickey and FriendsOne of the central features of the “It’s Party Time… with Mickey and Friends”, the major show presented on Central Plaza up to five times daily, was supposed to be the “interaction” with guests surrounding the stage and dancing along to the instructions of the Disney characters and the huge cast of dancers.

Even so this concept did not play out the way it was intended the cast is still trying hard and the creative minds of entertainment are not giving up on the idea – in fact they now also got the merchandise department into the game! (more…)

Mickey’s Magical Party – CD TWO (updated!)

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Mickey's Magical Party CD2In April the resort released the theme song of this year’s event “Mickey’s Magical Party” on a CD single titled “Mickey’s Magical Party Time” (for more details check out our according news report) … now the resort has added a second release titled “Mickey’s Magical Party” (catalog number EDDA039-2)!

The new release is already differentiated from the original release by the missing “Time” in the title but also by the type of packaging and a new cover. While the prior CD single came in the (usual) strong paper slip-in sleeve, the new release comes in a strong paper case, which can be opened, includes a booklet and holds the CD in a plastic holder (similar to the 15th anniversary CD release) – an alternative to the typical jewel case for CDs. Als the cover motive certainly is new compared to the original release as can be seen on the right. However, the photo does not give a realistic impression of the background, which in fact is not black but actualy silver reflecting background - note the Mickey Mouse shaped decorations on the posts in front of the buildings – these are from early concepts how to redecorate the posts that got replaced (before installation) with the “simple” banners for the event that can be seen on Main Street, U.S.A. now.

Anyway, back to the CD – what can be found on the new CD? Plenty as the CD comes with 14 tracks running approximately 54 minutes, most of which were previously unavailable … (more…)

The Final Week of Summer

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Central Plaza InformationWith the first children returnin to school and the days getting considerable shorter the end of summer is looming on the horizon. While Labor Day is still nearly two weeks off, the summer season at Disneyland Paris will come to an end coming Sunday. So this week is the last opportunity to enjoy the special summer entertainment schedule inlcuding the new show “Goofy’s Summer Camp”, the Disney Fantillusion nighttime spectacular and certainly the Enchanted Fireworks – not to mention the numerous street entertainment offerings and the prolonged opening hours.

However, the hours of the Disneyland Park have already been cut slightly back. Instead of closing officially at 11.00 pm (as in the prior weeks of the summer season), the park officially closes at 10.00 pm this week. However, guests are not going to loose out on much time in the parks - not only because many rides closed earlier throughout the summer anyway but because the resort came up with a new twist on operating hours!
