AM Starbucks 090610As reported earlier the transformation of the former Buffalo Trading Company into the first ever Starbucks coffee shop in a Disney Resort is moving ahead – unconfirmed rumors from various sources claim it might open as early as June 20. However, so far the official website of Starbucks in France has not added a listing for the shop – yet.

In any case, the transformation of the interior and exterior of the future coffee shop in the (more…)

Starbucks Progress Report

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Starbucks at the Disney VillageThe facades for the Starbucks moving into the Disney Village is nearly finished. Seen here is the progress from a week ago. In the meantime the scaffolding has come down and has revealed a clear view of ”bread basket look” of the corner element as well as the reminder of the facade, that blends rather well into the the flight formed by its two neighbours, The Steakhouse and Billy Bob’s Country & Western Saloon. Next steps should be the installation of the doors / windows (on ground level) of whatever is going to be attached to the steal beams protruding from the facade as well as the installation of the signage. Please note that the upper level seating is not(!) part of Starbucks but of La Grange, the all you can eat buffet in Billy Bob’s. (more…)

Starbucks Confirmed & Construction Update

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

090513-starbucks-construction-02The Buffalo Trading Company in the Disney Village was closed earlier this year, all signs were removed and a construction fence in the the 2009 “Magical Party” design featuring the fab five and Mickey-shaped balloons was blocking a closer look at what was happening to the store location. Rumor had it that it would be transformed into the first Starbucks location in any Disney resort worldwide … which Disneyland Paris now confirmed!

Construction for the Starbucks location at Disney Village (2)

The resort is apparently already handing out the new guide maps for the Disney Village which indicate that “Starbucks Coffee” will be “opening soon” in the location of the former Buffalo Trading Company. No official word on the opening date, however. Also so far no word on what the interior (that was themed as a western town with detail-rich facades in the past) or exterior will look like – however, we might know about the exterior soon enough, as visible work is under progress here. Supposed to be still visible parts of the flat building facade at least partially already received a paint-shop in the typical green of Starbucks. Also a structure was added to hold e.g. a sign higher than the building’s original facade in the front corner of the building (facing toward Billy Bob’s and thus toward the direction guests walk through the Village in the evening on the way from the parks to the Disney Hotels). In addition the photos from Wednesday, May 13, show that some wooden segments looking a bit like the braiding of a basket are added to the facade. Also one can spot steel beams extending from the facade which could be used for signage or additional extending facade elements such as a small roof.

Disney Village changes continue

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Many believed that with the closure of the Buffalo Trading Company to replace it – according to the internet – with a Starbucks later this year the most visible change for 2009 in the Disney Village was “done”. However just early this month another change happened surprisingly: the carousel next to the Raiforest Cafe (opposite of Cafe Mickey) was removed!

The large carousel which required guests to actualy pay for each ride had been widely criticized by fans as looking tacky, not being Disney-themed and also being a rather blunt move to get money from guests since a more intricately themed classic carousel is an attraction inside the Disneyland Park which guests with a theme park passport can use without further costs.

However, that discussion seems to be a thing of the past now, as the carousel was removed without any traces left . Another step in the project of the Disneyland Resort Paris to streamline the look of the Disney Village and make it more inviting for guests to spend some time there (besides rushing throughout it on the way to the hotel, a quick meal and maybe some late hour shopping in the Disney boutiques). As part of the project the atmosphere of the Disney Village was already greatly improved by the removal of the former central stage between the Sports Bar and the Disney Store and later the addition of planters and trees and new outdoor seating (in early 2008) as well as a small stage (in late 2008). One needs to wonder: what is the next thing that has to give and what additions are in store in the near-term?

DLRP attacked over Foie Gras

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Animal activists for several years already campaign against “Foie Gras” – a French speciality created out of the goose and duck liver that has been specifically fattened. This fattening is frequently accomplished through force-feeding of the animal – considered cruelty against the animals by animal activists, who therefore campaign against this typical French delicacy.

In the recent days several blogs (including antikewldaily and cartoon brew) posted an animated short created on behalf of Wakker Dier (a Dutch activist group) attacking Disneyland Resort Paris over its offering Foie Gras, which is available in selected restaurants on property, such as The Steakhouse (in the Disney Village) and The California Grill (in the Disneyland Hotel). However, the short was actually already released on December 17, 2007 – so this is not a current or recent activity. Nevertheless, the recent posts on blogs has brought the topic back into at lest parts of the internet discussion.

Whatever one thinks about the campaign against Foie Gras and them singleing out the Disneyland Resort Paris – the animated short is technically well done and impressive. The short showcases the “production” of Fois Gras in cartoon style next to an stylized Sleeping Beauty Castle emplyoing characters clearly resembling famous Disney stars.

You can find the full animated short below the jump…

Walt Disney World’s very own PanoraMagique

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

panoramagique01The balloon ride, PanoraMagique, in the Disney village opened on 9 April 2005. The ballon can carry around up to 30 passengers 100 meters into the sky for a fantastic view of Disneyland Resort Paris. The ride heavily depends on good weather, once the wind is to strong or rain takes over the sky the balloon is grounded. Even so, when the clouds disappear the attraction becomes a popular ride for those adventurers not to feint at heart. With the success story in France  a new version is opening in Walt Disney World. Its counterpart under the name “Characters in Flight” will open on April 1st in Downtown Disney.

The new version has a new decorative look. This time different Disney characters are added on the balloon while the Paris version only has Tinkerbell on the balloon. In the Walt Disney World version you will find (more…)

EuroDisney S.C.A. General Meeting trip report

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Finally, after way to long and having to miss out on a New Year’s trip I went to Disneyland Resort Paris. The main reason! EuroDisney S.C.A. annual general shareholders meeting (11 February 2009). Any reason is good enough for me, but going to the shareholders meeting brings me to the park one extra time a year. So after a 4 hour drive and a bad nigh sleep, I got up at 7:15am to get ready for the meeting. A quick drive over to the main parking lot (although it was more a “slide” over with all the ice that had formed that night) and I was ready to enjoy a Disney day.

Mickey and Pluto at BacklotThe day started in the Disney village Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show building. There we had to get our Shareholder ticket, 2 tickets for the day, 2 more tickets valid up to August and a towel. It’s always fun to get presents, but the extra tickets that I can use up to August are always great. Having an annual pass (although mine had expired), those tickets make one of my friends always very happy.

Once I got my Shareholders meeting card and tickets, I made my way towards to Walt Disney Studios. In the past the meeting took place in Either the New York or the New Port Bay Club convention center. This time the shareholders where invited to the studios where the general meeting would take place inside the CineMagique building. The event was going to start at 9:30 and as I was early enough inside the Studios there was some extra time to kill.

First of all I could enjoy some of the park empty. A picture here and there for me to share on the blog and then it was up to the Backlot to enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Mickey and Pluto visited  the breakfast area to welcome all the shareholders (still a small number of them). I didn’t stay to long as I wanted to enjoy the Tower of Terror before the meeting. Yes, how much fun is that!? Some attractions where open early, especially for (more…)
