How to renovate a castle

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Behind that huge scaffolding surrounding Sleeping Beauty Castle more is going on that must a simple cleaning and repainting. The workers are also conducting extensive repair and “reconstruction” work. One of the areas this can be spotted rather well are the ornate stone railings on the castle grounds. So what is going on there? (more…)

Good Morning Main Street, U.S.A.

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

As the upcoming Disney Magical Moments Festival is prepared the popular Disney Character Express has been retired already as it will be transformed into the new experience of the ”Disney Dance Express” (click here for a video of a complete preview performance). However, as the meet’n'greets with the Disney Characters on Central Plaza are always very popular a temporary replacement is now filling the gap between the Disney Character Express and the Disney Dance Express: the Disney Character Calvacade! Alice’s Curious Labyrinth Rehab

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Alice’s Curious Labyrinth in Fantasyland is one Disneyland’s attractions requiring rehabs most often due to its nature. After its repeated closures in March it is also scheduled to be closed for a rehab in April. However, the labyrinth is also the location for one of the photos sets that are advertised as “highlights” of the Disney Magical Moments Festival starting on April 6. (more…)

Disney & Co front door closed

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

As rumored late last year the boutique “Disney & Co.” on the Main Street, U.S.A. is currently undergoing a rehab. To allow continuing operation of the shop the rehab seems to have been separated into two sections. Currently the front half of the shop is closed off for its rehab. Therefore, the main entrance from the Main Street is closed. (more…)

Bright New Rose

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

As reported on Monday with extensive photo coverage the complete rehab of the Sleeping Beauty Castle at the hear of Disneyland is coming along nicely. While the view on the lower half of the strucutre is mostly hidden behind the scaffolding and planes, work on the upper half can be spotted more easily. In particular the upper turrets seem to have received a new coating in bright rose / pink already. (more…)

Earl of Sandwich – construction progress

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

The construction of the Earl of Sandwich restaurant at the far end of the Disney Village toward the Lake Disney - still supposed to open later this spring – has made further progress. As can be seen in the photos taken the past weekend the glass elements of the facade are now all in place. Behind them work has started on the lengthy interior work. Currently the features of the ceiling are under preparation and the electric cables for the lighting can be seen dangling from the ceiling in many places. (more…)

Brickwork for the Parade

Monday, March 28th, 2011

The re-paving of the parade route between Central Plaza and the gate leading backstage next to it’s a small world continues – and as reported earlier it is actually a re-paving. Gone are the huge concrete slabs. In their place real bricks have been placed. The construction fence has moved a bit again and now allows guests once again to walk around the full auditorium of the Castle Stage, blocking the access to Fantasyland only meters in front of the two towers that indicate the “border” (and until late 1999 used to hold up a real archway). Painting the Castle

Monday, March 28th, 2011

The central project of 2011 is the complete rehab of the Sleeping Beauty Castle as the center piece of the Disneyland Park and the icon of the whole resort … and the project seems to progress nicely. As reported prior the scaffolding reacing up to half the height of the castle has been covered with a printed on canvas to reduce the visual impact. This printed on canvas also stretches around to the side so that any photos taken of the Castle Stage do not show the simple white planes originally in place. However, these white planes are still used to cover the scaffolding hiding the castle wall stretching to the far right away from the castle (as can be seen in the photo on the left). (more…)

Disney Magical Moments – spoiler videos

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

April 126 will see the official start of the Disney Magical Moments festival at Disneyland Paris to last till early 2012. The festival includes two new entertainment offerings: the Disney Dance Express and Mickey’s Magical Celebration.

The Disney Dance Express replaces the Disney Character Express and is scheduled to be presented about 3 times daily during the morning hours. It will feature Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, Pluto, Chip and Dale together with a dance crew. The train of the former Disney Character Express will transport the whole group to Central Plaza where they will stop for a high energy dance performance inviting especially younger guests to join in.

Mickey’s Magical Celebration is the new stage show presented on the Central Plaza stage. However, different from the Disney Showtime Spectacular (presented on the same stage during 2010) it is currently planed to present the new show only once per day to close of the day. The show features Mickey (for the second half of the show wearing his sorcerer’s apprentice costume), the Fairy Godmother, the Genie (for the first time ever at Disneyland Paris as a face character), Merlin and the Disney Princesses with their Princes: Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Tiana and – for the first time at Disneyland Paris with her fellow Disney Princesses – Rapuncel with Flinn.

Past Thursday, March 25th, the Disneyland Park hosted a preview of both the Disney Dance Express and Mickey’s Magical Celebration for guests of an (upcharge) after-hour event in the park. YouTube user stitch59000 was on hand for both performances and uploaded complete videos of both performances to YouTube … if you are interested both have been embedded below the jump – however, if you don’t want to see the performance before your visit to the park … just don’t click! World of Disney Store rising

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Construction for the World of Disney Store at the Disney Village continues to move ahead and is clearly visible from just a couple of weeks ago. In the meantime the pre-fabricated concrete walls are reaching up to the second floor and the openings for doors and windows can already be spotted on the ground floor as well. The way it looks one smaller entrance should be placed right next to the Gaumont multiplex. However, the main entrance should face more directly to the wide paths between the parks to attract more guests when leaving the parks in the evening. (more…)
