Toy Story Playland – a progress report

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Time for another progress report from the construction site of the future Toy Story Playland in the Walt Disney Studios. In general views into the future mini-land are now greatly limited as high grown bamboo surrounds the area rather closely. Nevertheless there are some interesting insights in the best meaning of the word, visible from the guest-accessible areas inside the Walt Disney Studios … (more…)

No Flying Elephants over Fantasyland

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Not a single flying elephant can be seen flying over Fantasyland at the moment. Many children may have asked their parents recently where Dumbo has gone. Afterall Dumbo, the Flying Elephant has always been one of the childrens’ favorite attraction all over the park (and keeping the relatively low capacity in mind, one of the most crowded). But, as already reported, the attraction is currently down for a major rehab and is not expected to open before July 3rd. However, guests visiting the Park periodically or checking our prior news updates may spot that the work is making progress. (more…)

Welcome Back Studio 1 Facade

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Finally! It felt like ages – and in fact it took more than 4 years – but since the past weekend finally the front facade of Studio 1, the backdrop of the Frontlot and the park’s entrance visible to guests about to enter the park from far out ahead of the turnstiles, is finally visible in all its glory again. Starting late last week the scaffolding has come down from the facade and should be completely gone by now. (more…)

New Food

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

As reported the Pizza Planet restaurant in Discoveryland has been transformed from a founder service location into an all-you-can-eat buffet. As guests pay when entering the counter area before getting access to the seating area and can at all times return to the counters for extra-helpings unfortunately with the introduction of the parks’ cheapest all-you-can-eat buffet access to the indoor playground of e restaurant has been limited to paying patrons. But that is not the only change that came with the already popular new offering … gone is also e option to drop by the restaurant to grab the restaurant’s unique “pizza burger” available nowhere else in the restaurant. But fans of unique fast food creations should not despair for a new, unique offering has been added to another menu in Disneyland… (more…)

Been to the Arena yet?

Monday, June 14th, 2010

We are not talking about the new arenas in South Africe for the FIFA world cup or the public viewing arenas that have been set up in many locations… we are talking business, Disney convention business…

The convention business is an important factor for Disneyland Paris. Over the years the resort expanded it’s according capacity considerably. In 1992 the resort’s sole convention center was part of Disney’s Hotel New York, supported only by smaller conference / meeting rooms at the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Newport Bay Club and Disney’s Sequoia Lodge. Once the convention teams however needed more capacity a second permanent convention center was added as expansion to Disney’s Newport Bay Club. In addition a large event tent was placed backstage next to the Star Tours building accessible for guests from inside the Disneyland Park. However, even that was not enough to meet all demand, so the convention team also took over the Disney Village Dome once the show Crescend’O closed. In addition another big tent for meetings was added next door on the former Disney Village parking lot, once the new parking structure for the Disney Village opened.

Wandering Trees

Monday, June 14th, 2010

The bare facade of the Gaumont multiplex cinema to the right of the main entrance as seen from the entrance to Fantasia Gardens used to be hidden by several large trees that were planted in the separation area between the Disney Village grounds and the walkway leading to the entrance of the studios and the future second street of the village once the next expansion place is realized. However, in early May the trees disappeared one by one. Current (unconfirmed) reports indicate that this may be the first step to prepare the area for the construction of the new World of Disney store.

But what happened to the the trees? After all they had been growing to a respectable size over years and actually (if bought in such size) would come with an impressive price tag… (more…)

News from the turnstiles

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Excitement and anticipation make guests rush through the turnstiles as fast as possible into the parks at Disneyland Paris – which also explains why the latest turnstiles have gone unnoticed by most guests, even frequent ones, despite being in place since early this year already.

Gone are the screens visible to guests atop the actual turnstiles nd the smale k next to them. Their place has been taken by large metal plates with only small digital counters. Instead one touch screen per turnstile plus a more regulae keyboard (and a card reader for the cast members to unlock the screen and the keyboard) have been installed in the cast member location between the two turnstiles at each entrance.
