Box it up

Guests of Disneyland Paris certainly do not only shop for themselves but also for presents for their friends and family back home. Therefor packaging and transport options available for merchandise do not only have to be practical but also – at least optionally – be suited for gift giving. Disneyland Paris has reacted to these requirements by offering several sizes of colorful cardboard boxes to place gifts in.

In 2007 and 2008 obviously those boxes were featuring the 15th anniversary themes. However, late in 2009 a new more generic design has replaced the older motives.

Now the boxes feature photos of various highlight attractions from both theme parks of the resort, in cut-outs in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s head. Motives include among others e.g. Phantom Manor at Frontierland or The Hollywood Hotel Tower of Terror at the Walt Disney Studios Park. In addition Disney characters are “plussing” each motive, e.g. Stitch as a porter next to the Hollywood Tower Hotel, Goofy and Donald next to Phantom Manor and Mickey as space traveller next to Space Mountain. Furthermore the name of the attraction is displayed next to the graphic as well. Interestingly the attraction supposed to be represented by Skull Rock and Captain Hook’s Galley is – despite the inclusion of Tinkerbell and Peter Pan in the scene: Pirates of the Caribbean!

Each box features the different motives on the various sides of the box. The larger, flatt boxes feature a picture of Sorcerer Mickey bringing up the various motives seen on the smaller sides of the box out of his sorcerer’s hat. As in the past the boxes are provided flat and can either be set-up by the cast members at the cashier or back home.

In addition the huge oversized bags for giant items (as e.g. the life sized plush) have received a new design featuring the same graphics and theme as well. However, while the nex boxes across the resort already, the new plus-sized bags have not yet reached all shops. Selected boutiques are still using the prior design – the red and white “Disneyland Resort Paris” – plus-sized bags until their stock is depleted.

The new design of the boxes and the plus-sized bag does not only clearly state “the items inside come from Disney” but goes beyond that by emphasizing the connection to Disneyland Paris due to the depiction of the various highlight attractions – which hopefully will also make the recepients of the presents inside even more interested in visiting the resort.
