As is – in the meantime – widely known and confirmed the Walt Disney Studios Park will premier a brand new land / area in the first half of 2010 once again receiving the majority of new features in the resort. The new area dubbed “Toy Story Playland” will be located behind the Disney Arts of Animation building to the right ofthe Tram Tour station stretching toward the rear of the Toon Studios. After month in which the progress was hard to spot as work concentrated on preparing the ground and laying out fundaments (once the Tram Tour had been partially re-routed) now the first buildings are clearly peeking over the dark blue construction fence adorned with fitting decorations from the Toy Story movie franchise…
Seen in the photo above is the steel structure for one of the two hangar buildings that will function as the queue buildings for the Green Army Men Parachute Drop tower, one of the new land’s three rides. The two hangars are the area’s buildings closest to the Tram Tour Station, which is right to the left of the photo above.
The buildings for the other two rides of the area have also moved to horizontal construction with the raw concrete walls having grown – as seen in the rear right in the second picture. However, concrete work is on temporary hiatus during colder stretches of the winter.
For those interested in seeing how the Toy Story Playland is supposed to look like once finished Pastonio has posted a photo of the model for the land in the Mousekingdom Forum. The model clearly allows to identify the hangar which’s steele structure is visible already in the construction shot above. Also note the small model of the tram tour trains in the corner of the model shot, which indicates the tram tour route / road. Pastonio also mentions two interesting rumors that have popped up recently regarding a second expansion phase for the Toy Story Playland: to the right of the future Toy Story Playland the resort’s central costuming building has been set up in the wake of the opening of the Walt Disney Studios Park in 2002. The (back then newly constructed) building functions as central warehouse for costumes and costuming work shop, both for regular cast member costumes as well as special costumes for shows and parades. Unconfirmed rumor has it that the building may be repurposed to house a clone of the “Toy Story Mania” rides (as currently fan favorites in Disney’s Californa Adventure park and Disney Hollywood Studios at WDW and soon to open at Toyko Disney SEA) as well as shop and / or restaurant. However, these rumors are unconfirmed and their source seems unclear. It should also be noted that the rumors would require that the resort constructs a new central customing building in the resort’s backstage area where it is easily accessible to cast members of both parks, the Disney Village and the hotels.
