Disneyland Paris over the course of this year has continued its series of small rehabs and upgrades over the year as we were able to report frequently here in the news. However, the sheer number of smaller projects makes it easy to miss a small change going on here or there. One of those small changes executed in the recent months was the update of the FastPass “return time window” signs and the “standby waiting time” signage at the FastPass equipped attractions.
Originally the resort used electronically controlled systems with the times drawn on little “cards” flipping through as seen in the old signage for the “FastPass return time window” of Peter Pan’s Flight at the left. While this allowed the design of the times to be rather nicely themed to the surrounding area, the signes were prone to mechanical failure over time and hard to read after nightfall.
Disneyland Paris now is replacing these older signs with new electronic systems which (hopefully) are less prone to mechanical failure and are lit up from within,
making it easer to read the times indicated in low light situation. One of the first locations equipped with the new systems is Big Thunder Mountain as seen on the right and above, where the return time window sign above the entrance to the FastPass distribution machines as well as the standby waiting time sign have been upgraded. Unfortunately the downside of the new system is the design / look of the number displays which are clearly no longer themed to the surrounding area and therefore stand out – in particular at night when illuminated. At the information boards on Central Plaza and at the entrance of Discoveryland this detail was handled by using flat screens which allow for a “themed” font to be used.

I really like the new signs. As you said, a pity about the numbers, but maybe it’s hard to do? At least the rest of the sign in themed. Must be much easier to see at night.
