The former Backlot Express Restaurant in the Walt Disney Studios continues its transformation into the “Disney Blockbuster Café”, in particular the creation of the area with decorations based on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie trilogy – however, different from the area based on the “High School Musical” franchise, the Pirates of the Caribbean area is closed off during the ongoing transformation and at least rudimentary measures are taken to prevent close-up views of the inside – however, word about the progress is getting out nevertheless…
According to first reports (sorry, we have not received any photos so far) a wooden frame with a large lamp on each side and the frame holding a huge yellow tinted glass has been added to the back of the raised seating area of the Disney Blockbuster Café. The structure is giving the impression of the stern (back) of a pirate ship its form being based on the outline of the rear wall of a typical captain’s cabine from a classic pirate movie. It has been placed at the far back of the seating area, right in front of the window segment facing toward the main road of the Backlot with the Armageddon special effects attraction on the opposite site, blocking nearly the complete middle segment of the window front. As its a large wooden frame but the majority is the yellow tinted glass light is still getting into the area (important for guests that will be seated here), while blocking out at least part of the Backlot view to improve a (potential) immersion effect for guests. Due to the location the new element also function as the logic background for any photos guests may take of party members behind the wooden steering wheel mentioned earlier.
It should be further noted that so far no seating and tables have been placed back on the raised seating area, so work does not seem finished yet. This is also indicated by reports that same flat elements were added to the bare, black painted walls to the left of the seating area if seen from the main room. However, no words so far what these elements may be destined for.
