Guest staying at Disney’s Hotel New York, the resort’s second most expensive Disney hotel, during this summer season will be surprised to notice that both restaurants of the hotel – the Park Side Diner as well as the Manhattan’s – have been closed for the duration of the busiest months of the year! For the breakfast guests are guided twoard two large rooms of the convention center of the hotel, which is also the location for the “Radio City Buffet” that is offered in the same areas during dinner. Continuing the on-going (unplanned) series about new merchandise added to the racks in the resort’s shops and boutiques (already including new plush from UP, new ponchos and new Christmas merchandise) today we can report that the new photo (wall) calendar for 2010 has arrived. The calendar 2010 is featuring 12 photos of landmarks and popular attractions at the Disneyland Resort Paris – one for each months. It is on sales in various shops including the Storybook Store on Town Square. Is it a bit early for the new calendar? Not really, considering that many book stores on high streets all over Europe are also displaying the 2010 already – and there potential customers walk by repeatedly while the majority of the guests during the busy summer season at the resort won’t return before the beginning of 2010.
Cowboy Mickey advertising Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show
Wednesday, July 29th, 2009In a follow up to the post earlier today covering the various marketing measures and a special discount promotion for Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show it now seems that the (in the meantime taken down) big poster on the facade of the entrance to the show arena in the Disney Village was just a temporary place holder. In the meantime a huge 3-dimensional figure of Mickey Mouse dressed up as cowboy (complete with cowboy hat but with his regular yellow boots) has been attached to the wall. The figure has been designed to give the impression that Mickey climbed down on a rope from the roof top and (with his feet against the wall) pushes himself away to wink at the guests.
Did you hear about Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show?

Did you? It is now featuring Mickey and Friends! If you visited the Disneyland Resort Paris sometime since this spring you should have noticed as the resort is pushing the dinner show with posters, flyers and announcements (e.g. on the resort tv as well as the screens in the lobby of the hotels) heavily. In addition the huge screens of Cinema Mickey in the Videopolis are now also used to show an extensive ad for the dinner show once per hour, shortly before a new cycle of the classic Mickey shorts starts (which is always on the hour). Tuesday, July 28th, 2009… are supposed to be right at home at the Disney Blockbuster Café in the Walt Disney Studios Park once the transformation of the former “Backlot Express Restaurant” is finished. In another visible progress the “Café” signage part of the restaurant’s name was added to the facade above the main entrance in the past days. As in the past, while “Disney Blockbuster” is painted directly on the wall, the “Café” element is actually a 3D-element that (supposedly) should be illuminated at night. But what about the interior? New Color Scheme?
Monday, July 27th, 2009Just a little heads up from the ongoing rehab of the Disney Channel Studio building in the Walt Disney Studios Park. As reported the whole building, housing “Stitch Live!”, the new “Playhouse Disney” stage show as well the actual offices of the Disney Channel France, is covered in scaffolding on the sides facing the theme park. First glimpses of the work going on on the top levels indicate that not only is the facade going to be repainted but with a different color scheme! Originally the yellowish color was combined with green and blue accents but the latter seem to be (at least partially) replaced with a red color. Also the small kiosk under construction in front of the building is already showcasing this new, warmer color scheme.
Small Improvements

One of the most congested areas in all of Disneyland Paris on most days is the walkway right in front of the entrance to Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland. With the addition of the FastPass machines next to it this congestion in the past years became even worse, as guests debatting whether to enter the regular stand-by line for the attraction were joined by the crowds forming around the entrance to the FastPass machines to obtain their FastPass tickets to bypass the long lines for the ride on run-away-mine-train. But a small change realized at the beginning of this year’s summer season has allevated the situation considerably. With a rope the entrance to the FastPass distributing machines has been re-routed, resulting in the queue for the machines not to extent toward the attractions regular entrance but into the opposite direction. Is it Christmas already?
Sunday, July 26th, 2009
That is the question some guests may ask themselves when browsing through the Disney Gallery in the Disney Village, where right next to the items of the current sale the first displays of new merchandise for the Christmas Season 2009 have been added. However, then most guests will only visit the resort and its shops only once in a couple of years so offering the popular christmas merchandise year round has always been a concept – even so usually the christmas merchandise used to be limited to the year round christmas shop inside Sleeping Beauty Castle until shortly before the actual Christmas Season begins in early November. Yellow no more & more new merchandise
Saturday, July 25th, 2009
For decades Disney parks around the world were swarmed by guests in bright yellow ponchos on rainy days looking from the air as if swarms of giant bees were bussing around the park in the rain. But in the recent years the US-resorts replaced the bright yellow plastic ponchos with clear (see through) plastic ponchos. And now the Disneyland Resort Paris is following this trend.
While for 2007 and 2008 the resort ordered yellow ponchos with large 15th anniversary logos (that are still on sale in some shops in the resort) now the first deliveries of new clear (see through) plastic ponchos have arrived and are on sale e.g. in some shops on the Main Street, U.S.A., on rainy days. The new ponchos also feature a new logo featuring only the name “Disneyland Paris” with the “A” in the two words being formed by a drawing of the Eiffel Tower.
