Toy Story Playland – concept art from Hong Kong!

The Government of Hong Kong has officially announced a major expansion plan for Hong Kong Disneyland including three new mini-lands one of which is to be called “Toy Story Land”. While the other two will be exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland for five years from their respective opening, the latter is going to be exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland only within the Asian region (to learn more about the three lands Toy Story Landand the multi year expansion plan for Hong Kong Disneyland visit the Mousekingdom Blog, where we have now published an updated version of our detailed post including concept-art and an official expansion park plan).

“Toy Story Land”? Exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland only in comparison to other Asian Disney resorts, but therefore not to the US resorts and Disneyland Resort Paris??
Hmm…

Based on this statement, the name of this third new mini-land as well as the concept art released by the Government of Hong Kong it can be assumed that the new land and its attractions will be identical or at least highly similar concept-wise to the new “Toy Story Playland” (working title) to be added to the Walt Disney Studios Park at DLRP which, while not announced officially, is already under construction and expected to open in 2010.

The concept art shows three rides in that land: a small parachute-drop tower themed to the Green Army Man, a slinky dog ride (rumored to be a music express style ride) as well as a half pipe attraction with a vehicle themed as race cars – in other words exactly the attractions that have been rumored repeatedly for the expansion of the Walt Disney Studios Park at DLRP.

Therefore the concept art should be of special interest to fans of DLRP as well since it gives a first official indication how the themeing of the upcoming attractions for the WDS may look like and how the area may be themed. While it seems safe to assume that the themeing of the actual rides will be pretty much identical between the two versions of the lands in the Walt Disney Studios Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland the themeing of the mini-land can be expected to differ at least in some points, if only because of different layouts and also sight line requirements due to the layout of the surrounding areas of each park. Nevertheless, the concept art for Hong Kong Disneyland should atl least be an indicator what guests of the WDS can expect in 2010…
