Introduction

Situated behind those shops to the left hand side of guests entering the park, Liberty Arcade gives "backdoor" access to The Emporium, Disney & Co. and Casey's Corner. It is also home to Glass Fantasies (a barrow offering crystal and glass gifts) and services including Toilets, Telephones and ATM machines.
Liberty Arcade plays homage to The Statue of Liberty, one of the worlds most famous landmarks and a unique link between France and America. Here guests can view pictures and models which chart the history of the lady with the lamp. Starting with the earliest conceptual pictures of the statue through to photos which show the famous icon as we know her today.
Every detail of the arcade relates to the statue, from the mouldings which appear in the rafters which show her face to the beautiful mosaic floor. A walk-through tableau situated halfway along the arcade recreates the view of the statues dedication ceremony.

 With her 93 meters in height (including the pedestal), Miss Liberty was one of the very first things immigrants to the United States saw when they arrived at their promised land.
The Statue of Liberty (standing on an island in New York Harbor) was a gift by the French as a symbol of peace and friendship between the United States of America and France.
Work on the statue began in 1875 under sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi. The sceletton of the statue with its framework of four gigantic steel supports was designed by Eugène-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc and no other than Gustav Eiffel (the one with the tower...).
In 1885, the statue was completed. However, it still had to be shipped from France to New York. So the lady with its 225 tons in weight had to be disassambled again to get it to America.
Finally, on October 28, 1886, Miss Liberty was officially dedicated.
