Slowly meandering their way around Big Thunder Mountain the Paddle Wheel
Boats offer guests a relaxing trip with scenic views across Frontierland
and beyond.Guests can board one of the two beautiful Paddle Steamers from the loading station close to the Silver Spur Steakhouse just a short distance from the gates of Phantom Manor. Once aboard the "Mark Twain" or its sister ship the "Molly Brown" the steamer casts off for its 15 minute journey. During the trip guests get the opportunity to examine Big Thunder Mountain a little more closely and at a more leisurely speed than that offered aboard the mine trains. With its carved faces and weathered features it looks as though it could have stood here since time began. Sights during the trip include a small wilderness island which stands deserted, overgrown with trees, close by an old man relaxes in his rocking chair with his faithful dog at his side. Towards the end of the trip the impressive geyser plateau comes into view, inspired by the natural geysers found in the Yellowstone National Park the bubbling rock formations and steaming crevices spout water skywards at regular intervals. Sharp eyed guests may even spot the skeletal remains of a prehistoric creature within the rugged rocks. The Paddle Steamers offer a truly relaxing journey in an elegant surrounding (which makes the difference to the more rustical River Rogue Keelboats crusing the Rivers of teh Far West) and a great way to escape the hectic pace of theme park life for a few minutes, they also present some great photo opportunities. The boats look even more spectacular at night when the are illuminated with hundreds of tiny white lights making them one of the most romantic spots in the park to relax after dinner at one of the parks excellent restaurants. |
Auf ihrer gemächlichen Fahrt um den Big Thunder Mountain bieten die
großen Schauffelraddampfer einen erholsamen Trip mit einer herrlichen
Aussicht auf Frontierland und darüber hinaus.Fahrgäste können einen der beiden wunderschönen Dampfer am Dock, nahe dem Silver Spur Steakhouse und nur unweit von den Toren zu Phantom Manor, besteigen. Nach dem Ablegen treten die "Mark Twain" oder deren Schwesterschiff "Molly Brown" zu ihrer fünfzehnminütigen Reise an. Während der Fahrt bietet sich die Möglichkeit den Big Thunder Mountain etwas genauer anzusehen (und das bei einer viel gemütlicheren Geschwindigkeit als an Bord eines der Bergwerkszüge). Sehenswert ist außerdem die kleine verlassene Insel, die überwuchert mit Bäumen einen Hauch von Wildnis vermittelt. In der Nähe findet sich auch eine in die Jahre gekommene Anlegestellte, wo ein alter Mann den Tag in seinem Schaukelstuhl genießt. Zum Ende der Fahrt hin erreicht man die beeindruckenden Geisiere mit ihren geschwungenen Steinformationen und den Felsspalten, aus denen Dampf dringt. Alle paar Minuten schießt hier außerdem kochendheisses Wasser aus dem Erdinneren. Bei genauerem Betrachtet kann man hier sogar das Skelett eines Dinosauriers finden, der in diesen Steinen seine letzte Ruhestätte fand. Die Dampfschiffe bieten eine wahrlich entspannende Reise in einem eleganten Ambiente (das auch den Unterschied zu den rustikaleren River Rogue Keelboats ausmacht, die ebenfalls ihre Runden auf den Rivers of teh far West ziehen) - was eine willkommene Abwechslung zum hektischen Treiben im restlichen Park darstellen kann. Außerdem bieten sich eine Menge toller Fotomotive. Nachts sehen die Schiffe sogar noch spektakulärer aus, wenn sie von hunderten kleiner Glühbirnen erleuchtet werden. So bieten sie einen wirklich romantischen Abschluss eines Tages in Disneyland Paris - oder Entspannung nach einem wundervollen Essen in einem der Restaurants im Park. |

an extra special treat kids are occasionally asked up onto the bridge
where they can try their hand at steering the steamer (don't worry the
captain will always be on hand) ask one of the castmember on board cast members for more information. Because of the design of the queuing area guests are admitted into a holding area which is filled with exactly the number of guests permitted to board the next boat that arrives. This means any guest within that area can be sure that their wait will be no more than 15 minutes for their ride or even a little as 7 minutes if both boats are operating. |

| The
"Mark Twain" was - obviously - named after the famed American
novelist Samuel Clemens, who gained his fame and fortune under his
pseudonym Mark Twain. Clemens, born in 1835 and raised in a small town along the Mississippi, became probably the most famous American author of the 19th century with books like "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". He served not only as writer, but also as humorist and popular lecturer. Twain, who is still one of the most beloved novelists for young and young-at-heart readers, died in 1910. The "Molly Brown", on the other hand, was named after that
famed survivor of the sinking of the "Titanic" (1912).
Margeret Brown, born in 1867, went down into history books as Molly
Brown when she helped to command a lifeboat and nursed the
survivors of the "Titanic" aboard the "Carpathia". (However
it has to be mentioned that she was one of the most active people to
create a myth about her own...) |

unter seinem Pseudonym Mark Twain zu Ruhm und Wohlstand gelangte. Clemens wurde 1835 geboren und wuchs in einer Kleinstadt am Ufer des Mississippi auf. Er wurde mit Büchern wie "Die Abenteuer von Tom Sawyer" und "Die Abenteuer von Huckleberry Finn" zu dem vermutlich berühmtesten amerikanischen Autor des 19. Jahrhunderts. steamboats. Wheelchair users will have to leave the wheelchair in the case of a transfer to another boat during a evacuation. |
