Introduction

Have you ever wanted to take a trip to "a long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far away"? Then board the Endor Express and prepare yourself for an adventure through the universe of the most popular sci-fi saga of all time: "Star Wars"!

The X-Wing fighter at the far end of Discoveryland shows you the entrance to a space port, from which you can take the regular flights to the forest moon of Endor (as seen on "The Return of the Jedi").
As soon as you enter the "Star Tours"-building you are right in the middle of the action of an alien space port. Everywhere you look there is something going on: adds for different travel destinations, boarding calls, strange looking aliens sitting in a control-room and one of the StarSpeeder-ships, that you are going to board, which has seen better days and is now being repaired by two good old friends - C3PO and R2D2!
After you have passed two more droids (which are complaining about their hard lifes and jobs and even about the company that they are working for), you finally reach the boarding area.
From here, you are being escorted by a nice Star Tours-attendant to one of the six gates. While waiting for departure you can watch how the ship is getting final preparations for its flight and a security-video, which has a nice "Star Wars"-touch.
Having taken your seat on the ship and put on the seat-belt, you are being finally introduced to your pilot of todays flight: Rex. Well, Rex isn't as well trained or programmed as you would have maybe wished, but what can you do? You are on your way.... Although, hey, this isn't the way! Rex is heading towards disaster!
And not only once! No! He makes a "special tour" of the space dock, pilotes you right through an asteroid field and an ice-comet and finally gets you into real trouble: a fight between the good rebels against the most devestating weapon of the evil Galactic Empire - the Death Star!
You will be glad to feel solid ground beneath your feet again after surviving this turbulent trip. From the exit gates of your StarSpeeder you are being directed to the Astroport Services Interstellaires where you can have one more encounter with one of those manic droids, or where you give some final "touches" to a photograph of yours or where you can a fun space fight with some others.

Star Tours was one of the very first simulator-attractions of its kind - and even today it is one of the best. It really combines the imaginative efforts of the Disney Imagineers and the "Star Wars"-universe created by George Lucas. The ride is filled with little details, which especially make the waiting area very interesting. And you are even almost sorry, if there aren't that many people in front of you so you miss some of the queue's action.
The ride is, of course, not as fresh as it was when it first opened and the long rumored update for that attraction would breathe some new life into it again. But a trip to Endor stays a lot of fun - for both: "Star Wars"-fans and Disneyland-guests - and the jump into hyperspace is still able to give you some goosebumps...

Das X-Wing-Raumschiff am anderen Ende von Discoveryland weist den Weg zum Eingang des Raumhafens, von dem aus Sie einen der regelmäßigen Flüge zum Waldmond Endor (wie man ihn aus "Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter" kennt) nehmen können.
Kaum dass man das "Star Tours"-Gebäude betreten hat, findet man sich inmitten des Geschehen eines außerirdischen Raumhafens. Überall wo man hinsieht, geschieht irgendetwas: Werbefilme für verschiedene Reiseziele, Durchsagen, merkwürdige Aliens, die in einem Kontrollraum sitzen und einen StarSpeeders, von denen Sie einen besteigen werden, der schon bessere Zeiten gesehen hat und nun von zwei guten alten Bekannten repariert wird: C3PO und R2D2!
Nachdem Sie an zwei weiteren Droiden vorbeigekommen sind (die sich über Leben, ihre Jobs und auch über die Company, für die sie arbeiten, beschweren) erreichen Sie schließlich ihren Flugschalter. 
Von hier werden sie von einem netten Star Tours-Steward zu einem der sechs Gates gebracht. Während Sie die letzten paar Minuten auf den Abflug warten, können sie sehen, wie ihr StarSpeeder für den Flug vorbereitet wird und auch ein Sicherheits-Video wird gespielt - jedoch dieses mit einem gewissen "Star Wars"-Touch.
Haben Sie an Bord des Schiffes platzgenommen und sich angeschnallt, stellt sich ihnen endlich ihr Pilot des heutigen Fluges vor: Rex. Nun, Rex, ist nicht ganz so gut ausgebildet oder auch programmiert, wie Sie es sich vielleicht gewünscht hätten, aber was will man machen? Sie sind jetzt unterwegs. Aber hey, das ist nicht der richtige Weg! Rex steuert direkt auf eine Katastrophe zu!
Und das nicht nur einmal! Nein! Er macht mit Ihnen eine "Spezialführung" durch das Raumdock, steuert Sie direkt durch ein Asteroidenfeld und einen Eis-Koment und bringt schließlich Ihnen noch wirkliche Ärger ein: einen Kampf zwischen den guten Rebellen und der zerstörerischsten Waffe des Galaktischen Imperiums - den Todesstern!
Wenn Sie diesen turbulenten Trip überlebt haben, werden Sie froh sein wieder festen Untergrund unter ihren Füßen zu spüren. Vom Exit-Gate ihres StarSpeeders gelangen Sie dann zum Astroport Services Interstellaires, wo Sie noch eine weitere Begegnung mit einem dieser manischen Droiden haben können. Oder Sie können dort ein paar "Verbesserungen" an einem Foto von Ihnen vornehmen. Oder Sie können mit anderen noch einen kleinen Weltraumkampf durchspielen.

Star Tours war eine der ersten Simulator-Attraktionen seiner Art - und ist auch Heute noch eine der besten. Es verbindet wirklich die Vorstellungskraft der Disney Imagineers mit George Lucas' "Star Wars"-Universum. Die Attraktion steckt voller kleiner Details, welche erstaunlicherweise besonders die Warteschlange sehr interessant machen. Man ist beinahe sogar enttäuscht, wenn vor einem nicht zu viele Leute stehen, da man so einige der Details verpasst.
Natürlich ist die Attraktion nicht mehr so frisch, wie sie es einst bei ihrer Eröffnung war und das langerwartete Update für Star Tours würde ihr neues Leben einhauchen. Doch ein Flug nach Endor macht auch weiterhin - sowohl "Star Wars"-Fans als auch Disneyland-Gästen - eine Menge Spaß und der Sprung in den Hyperraum verursacht immer noch eine leichte Gänsehaut...

 The dialogs of the robots and the announcements at the space-port are a few of the countless elements of the detailed theming of the queueing-area. A complet script of these funny dialogs, presented in a mix of English and French, and the whole flight is available from the Star Wars Union together with an amateur video - unfortunately only in German. For the script and teh video keep in mind: it spoils some of the surprises if read / watched before the first visit.

As one of the really outstanding E-ticket-attractions at the opening of the Disneyland Park in 1992 it wasn't difficult to find a sponsor for this attraction - so from 1992 till 2004 the  name of IBM was closely connected to Star Tours in Paris.
