In the shadow of Space Mountain, within
a bubbling lagoon, the alien like silhouette of the Nautilus Submarine
rests half submerged beneath the waves….. waiting to be discovered.Les Mystères du Nautilus is a self guided walking tour through a recreation of Captain Nemo’s famous submarine from Jules Vernes novel "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" and Disney’s film adaptation of the same name. The tour takes guests into a series of detailed room sets each seemingly more intricate than the last. The journey begins in a small circular light-house overlooking the lagoon where guests descend a spiral staircase, which leads down below water level, before passing along a dimly lit corridor to enter the craft. Here they catch a glimpse of a chamber full of gold and jewels before passing into Captains Nemo’s private cabin. As the tour proceeds guests go through several other rooms before reaching the biggest of the ship, which has two large viewing windows, covered with metal screens one of which opens to show the ocean bed. It is here that they experience a brief encounter with Nemo’s nemesis the giant squid. At the furthest end of this room guests pass by a recreation of Nemo’s famous pipe organ. Although not the most thrilling attraction in the park, Les Mystères du Nautilus is a tribute to Disney’s set design and attention to detail, which leaves guests believing they really could be beneath the waves aboard Nemo’s famous vessel. |
Im Schatten von Space Mountain liegt
in einer brodelnden Lagune das Unterseeboot Nautilus mit seinem
befremdlichen Äußeren... und es wartet darauf, erkundet zu werden.Les Mystères du Nautilus bietet einen Spaziergang durch einen Nachbau des berühmten U-Boots Kapitän Nemos aus Jules Vernes Roman "20.000 Meilen unter dem Meer" sowie Disneys Verfilmung des Stoffs. Die Tour führt den Besucher durch eine Reihe von wunderschönen Räumen, angefüllt mit allen möglichen Details, von denen einer beeindruckender als der letzte wirkt. In einem runden Leuchtturm am Rande der Lagune steigt man eine Wendeltreppe zu einem schwach beleuchteten Korridor hinab, der zum Schiff führt. An Bord, fällt zu erst der Blick auf eine Kammer voller Gold und Juwelen, die als Ballast dienen, bevor man Kapitän Nemos Kajüte betritt. Im weiteren Verlauf der Tour kommt man durch weitere Räume des Schiffs und schließlich erreicht man den großen Salon, der zwei riesige Fenster hat, welche von großen Metallschilden verschlossen werden. Als sich eines der beiden Fenster jedoch öffnet, um den Blick auf den Meeresboden freizugeben, taucht eine der größten Gefahren des Ozeans auf: ein Riesentintenfisch! Nach dieser Begegnung empfiehlt es sich noch einen Blick auf die fantastische Orgel des Kapitäns zu werfen, bevor man wieder den Weg an die Oberfläche antritt. Obwohl Les Mystères du Nautilus nicht gerade die aufregendste Attraktion im Park ist, so ist sie doch ein Musterbeispiel für Disneys Detailliebe und Setdesign, die dem Besucher wirklich glauben machen können, dass man gerade von einer Reise 20.000 Meilen unter dem Meer zurückkehrt... |

| Disney's
live-action movie "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" was released
in late 1954. The movie features an excellent cast of popular and
talented actors like Kirk Douglas (Ned Land), Paul Lukas (Professor
Aronnax), Peter Lorre (Conseil) and James Mason, who played the role of
Captain Nemo to perfection. The movie was the most complex that Disney had ever done to that date. The interior sets of the "Nautilus" like the lounge were masterfully done. The ship itself was actually built to scale, all in all over 60 meters long. While many outside scenes were actually shot on location near Nassau, Bahamas, a huge tank was built at the Disney Studios in Burbank, where one of the climaxes of the movie - the fight with the monstrous squid attacking the "Nautilus" - was filmed. The movie became a huge hit at the box office. Even today, it is considered as being one of the greatest successes the Disney Studios ever produced. No wonder, that Disney's theme parks would try to get on board of that success. Shortly after the opening of Disneyland, guests could get a peek at the sets of the movie at Tomorrowland. When the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World opened in 1971, "Nautilus"-shaped submarines took its guests deep beneath the ocean at Fantasyland's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"-ride (which has been closed in the early 90's). The latest take on the movie's theme can be seen at Tokyo DisneySea, the second theme park of the Tokyo Disney Resort right next to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Bay. Here, at the park's Mysterious Island area, guests can experience the thrills of a deep-sea journey at the latest version of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". For those of you who can never get enough information from behind the magic it might be interesting to visit the website of E.B. Effects incorporated, who have worked frequently for Imagineering on projects for California, Orlando and Tokyo and in this case were responsible for the replica of Captain Nemo's organ... Les Mystères du Nautilus was constructed in Paris in the same expansion phase as its neightbour Space Mountain (even so it opened one year earlier thant the coaster) as in the original concepts both would have been housed in one giant volcano... |

Kinos. Der Film lockt mit einer exzellenten Besetzung mit beliebten und
talentierten Schauspielern wie Kirk Douglas (Ned Land), Paul Lukas
(Professor Aronnax), Peter Lorre (Conseil) und James Mason, der die
Rolle des Kapitän Nemos bis zur Perfektion spielte. Der Film selbst war der komplexeste, den Disney bis dato angepackt hatte. Die Innenräume der "Nautilus" wie beispielsweise der Salon wurden meisterhaft hergerichtet. Das Schiff selber wurde tatsächlich sogar 1:1 aufgebaut; alles in allem mehr als 60 Meter lang! Während die meisten Außenaufnahmen an Drehorten nahe Nassau auf den Bahamas stattfanden, wurde in Disney Studios in Burbank ein gewaltiger Wassertank aufgestellt, in dem einer der Höhepunkte des Films - der Kampf mit dem gefährlichen Tintenfisch, der die "Nautilus" angreift - gefilmt. Der Filme wurde zu einem Riesenhit an den Kinokassen. Und noch Heute gilt er als einer der größten Erfolge, den die Disney Studios je produziert haben. Also verwundert es nicht, dass auch Disneys Themenparks versuchten, auf den Erfolg aufzuspringen. Kurz nach der Eröffnung von Disneyland, konnte man in Tomorrowland die Sets des Films bestaunen. Als dann das Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World 1971 eröffnete, führten die U-Boote von Fantasylands "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"-Attraktion mit dem Äußeren der "Nautilus" Besucher in die Tiefen des Meeres (diese Attraktion wurde Anfang der 90er Jahre geschlossen). there's also an elevator for those visitors, who have to rely on a
wheel-chair or who are not good at climbing stairs. |
