If you have ever visited the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida you may find something vaguely familiar about the Hotel New York, That's because it was designed by renowned architect Michael Graves who was also responsible for the Swan and Dolphin hotels in Disney's resort in Orlando. Here in Paris he uses his distinctive style of design to capture the feel of the sky scrapers of the Big Apple.
Set on the banks of Lake Disney the Hotel New York is one of the highest ranked hotels on the resort (Along with the Disneyland Hotel). The terracotta and grey colours of its facade represent a line of high rise buildings like those which grace the skyline of Manhattan. Inside and around the hotel you will find many symbols associated with the city including Big Apples, a yellow taxi cab and numerous images of the ultimate New York icon The Statue Of Liberty.
But surly the most unique of all of the hotel's features is the Rockefeller skating rink that can be found in the courtyard area of the hotel facing the lake. During the winter months the rink is always a hive of activity as skaters of all ages and abilities try their hand at ice skating and at special times even Disney characters appear in their skates for a few circuits. When the summer arrives and the ice melts away the rink is transformed into a beautiful ornamental pond complete with fountains.
The Rooms
The 572 rooms and 36 suites are each decorated in the art deco style for which New York is so famous. Many rooms sleep up to 4 people in two double beds although some rooms do contain one king size. Through out the room little details continue the themeing with the big apple design on the cupboards and the sky scraper style Lamps.Rooms offer varied views some over look small landscape gardens and others across the beautiful Lake Disney across the Newport Bay Club which looks especially magical lit with hundreds of tiny lights during the
evening.
Restaurants and Bars
The hotel contains 2 restaurants the Parkside Diner and Manhattan Restaurant.
At the Parkside Diner you may feel as if you have just walked into a scene from the 30's Formica tables and shining chrome set the scene for a fun and informal atmosphere of a typical New York style eatery. A selection from the menu may include a juicy burger or delicious salad but remember to save room for those tempting desserts.
The Manhattan Restaurant offers a more formal setting offering an impressive range of French and international dishes. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the famous dinner dances found in New York's leading clubs.
In the reception area of the hotel you will find the New York City bar where you can enjoy a large selection of cocktails served in a relaxed atmosphere often accompanied by live music.
Shopping
The Hotel New York's shop is a great place to pick up any of those last minute gifts offering a small selection of theme park merchandise as well as a range of clothing and New York Hotel Logo Products. In comparison to the other Disney resort hotels the Hotel New York seems a little more restrained and formal, Its themeing lends a more business and less magical atmosphere which feels out of place when compared with the other properties.Although the Rockefeller is a sure hit with children it is open to all guests and not only those staying at the Hotel New York.
However the hotel does offer the first class service you expect from Disney and an impressive range of leisure facilities

Das Hotel New York ist das am zweitnächsten zum Themenpark gelegene Hotel des Resorts. Es befindet sich direkt neben dem südlichen Zugang zum
Disney Village. Das Hotel New York ist ein First Class Hotel mit angeschlossenem Convention Center. Es verfügt über 563 Zimmer und 27 Suiten. Das Convention Center hat eine Größe von 5000 qm und bietet Tagungsmöglichkeiten für 2.200 Personen.
Das ganze Hotel, das von dem Architekten Michael Graves entworfen wurde, ist im Art Deco-Stil, dem in New York der 30er Jahre vorherrschenden Baustil, erbaut. Die zentralen Gebäude des Hotels sollen die Hochhäuser des Rockefeller-Centers verkörpern und werden von zwei Flügeln eingeschlossen.
Der eine Flügel ist dem Grammercery Park, der andere den East Side Brownstone Buildings nachempfunden.
Die Fassaden der einzelnen Gebäude sind in den Art Deco-typischen Farben gemäß gestrichen und sind ebenfalls dem Stil entsprechend sehr glatt. Das Hotel strahlt in keiner Weise den Luxus des
Disneyland Hotels oder des Newport Bay Clubs aus und macht im allgemeinen einen eher kühlen Eindruck, der auch im Inneren anhält.
Die Zimmer werden ebenfalls vom Art Deco-Stil bestimmt und entsprechend der glatten Fassaden lassen sich keine Balkone vorfinden. Die Einrichtung der Zimmer besteht aus zwei Doppelbetten oder einem King-Size Bett und einem Sofa. Die Farben der Zimmer werden von Art-Deco Tönen und Mahagoni-Holz bestimmt. Die Bäder sind ausreichen groß, allerdings nicht so komfortabel wie die des Disneyland Hotels ausgestattet. Alle Zimmer verfügen über eine Minibar, Fernseher und Radio, Telefon, Fön, Klimaanlage und Minitel-Konsole (ein französisches Pendant zum BTX-System).
Die zum See hin gelegenen Zimmer bieten eine wunderschönen Blick über den Lake Disney, hinüber zum Newport Bay Club. Auch Nichtraucherzimmer sowie behindertengerechte Zimmer sind auf Anfrage buchbar. Es steht ein 24-Stunden Etagenservice zur Verfügung und auch in diesem Hotel kann das Frühstück gegen einen Aufpreis auf dem Zimmer genossen werden.
Das Hotel verfügt über ein Frei -und Hallenbad, Solarium, Sauna, Dampfbad und Massage-Einrichtungen. Zur sportlichen Betätigung stehen den Gästen, die nach einem Tag im Park noch genügend Energie besitzen zwei Tennisplätze mit Flutlichtanlagen (von den Gästen aller Hotels benutzbar) zur Verfügung. Des weiteren verfügt das Hotel über einen Friseur -und Schönheitssalon.
Eine besondere Attraktion des Hotels befindet sich auf dem sog. Rockefeller Plaza, zwischen dem Hotel und der Promenade des Lake Disney, eine Eislaufbahn (allerdings nur im Winter geöffnet).
Besonders bei Nacht, wenn alles schön angestrahlt ist, ergibt sich hier die Möglichkeit zu einer vergnüglichen Eisrunde.
Bei Nacht verändert das gesamte Hotel sein Ambiente, die tagsüber so kühl erscheinende Fassade erwacht zu neuem Leben und strahlt einen wunderbaren Flair aus. Ganz besonders bezaubernd wird die Szenerie wenn die Fontänen zwischen Hotel und Eisbahn ebenfalls eingeschaltet sind.
Für das leibliche Wohl stehen den Gästen die Restaurants Parkside Diner und Manhattan Restaurant offen. Morgens findet im auch in diesem Hotel ein Frühstück mit den Disney-Figuren statt. Die New York City Bar lädt am Abend zu Jazzmusik ein.

Das Parkside Dinner offeriert den Gästen amerikanische Küche auf der Basis eines A-la-Carte Restaurants. In diesem Restaurant spiegelt sich die lockere und zwanglose New Yorker Atmosphäre wieder und auch dieses Restaurant ist im typischen Art-Deco Stil gehalten.
Manhattan Restaurant
Das Manhattan Restaurant ist ein Nobelrestaurant der oberen Klasse und bietet französische Küche und internationale Spezialitäten. Dieses Restaurant ist neben dem California Grill das Flagschiffrestaurant des Resorts. Für Herren werden Anzug oder zumindest ein Jackett, für Damen gepflegte Abendgarderobe
erwartet. Die Speisen sind zwar hervorragend aber preislich außerhalb jedes vernünftigen Niveaus angesiedelt. Abend finden des öfteren Bälle statt.
New York City Bar
Auch diese Bar erinnert an eine Bar im Downtown Manhattan. Bei der wohl besten in Europa angebotenen Jazzmusik und einem Cocktail kann man hier einen unterhaltsamen Abend verbringen. Eine große französische Tageszeitung schrieb einmal über diese Bar,
dass hier der wohl beste Jazz außerhalb Amerikas geboten wird und dass
alleine ein Besuch in dieser Bar genügt um eine Woche Aufenthalt im DLP zu rechtfertigen. Wenn man bedenkt,
dass die französische Presse, DLP gegenüber bekanntermaßen nicht sehr positiv gesinnt ist, erscheint diese Kritik in einem noch erstaunlicheren Licht.
